1. Introduction Total Geotechnics was engaged by Frostdale Civil Contractors on the 15 May 2015, to provide Level 1 Geotechnical Supervision Services in respect of the project lands sited at 58-98 Donald Road, Redland Bay (Refer Appendix 1 Site Plans & Diagrams and Appendix 3 Site Photographs). This Geotechnical Level 1 Supervision Report (Level 1 Report) presents the results of supervision activities, compaction and moisture control, material placement and laboratory testing for earthworks afforded at 58-98 Donald Road, Redland Bay. This Level 1 report covers construction activities carried out from the 15th May to the 11 th September 2015. 2. Scope of Works The scope of works involved the placement of On-site General Fill. The General Fill material was placed in Level 1 fill areas, in accordance with the provisions of AS 3798-2007, Guidelines on earthworks for commercial and residential developments. For the purposes of AS 3798-2007, the depth of FILL placed was less than 5 metres. General fill material utilised in respect of the Level 1 earthworks was locally sourced on-site. The Gerenal Fill Material comprised of Silt, Sand and Clay Materials. The approved engineering drawings and specifications had the additional requirements that all General Fill Materials once placed achieved a minimum 95% compaction and had a moisture content variation of less the plus or minus 2% of optimum moisture content. 3. Inspections/Supervision Full time Level 1 supervision and inspections were undertaken between; 15th May and the 11 th September 2015, including supervision and inspections regarding the stripping and removal as per AS 3798-2007 Section 3, including the removal of: Organic soils, such as topsoils, severely root affected subsoils and peat; Contaminated soils ( Contaminated Soils were a part of the Brief ); Materials which undergo volume change or loss of strength when disturbed and exposed to moisture; Silts, or materials that have deleterious engineering properties of silt; Other materials with properties that are unsuitable for the forming of structural fill; Fill that contains wood, metal plastic, boulders or other deleterious material, in sufficient proportions to affect the required performance of the fill. The maximum particle size of any rocks or other lumps, within the layer has not exceeded two thirds ( 2 / 3) of the compacted layer thickness. 3

The lots inspected were essentially homogeneous in relation to material type and moisture condition, rolling response and compaction technique. Prior to placement any existing filled ground, for which the conditions of the placement are not adequately documented, have not been assumed to have been of either standard compaction or of the composition adequate to support fill or any loads, has been removed (AS3798 Section 2o). 4. Testing The Project was classified as Residential Development for the purposes of AS3798-2007 (refer Table 5.2), thereby requiring a minimum compaction result of 95% Standard Compaction for the cohesive soils (AS 1289 Section 5.7.1 & 5.1.1) present. AS3798-2007 further requiresd that a minimum of 3 tests per day be afforded in respect of the fill material being placed (refer AS3798 Table 8.1) Testing was afforded using a Nuclear Density Gauge for field density determination per AS 1289 Section.5.8.1. Field testing was at a rate of 3 field density tests per day s production, per the minimum requirements of AS 3798 2007. Field Testing was similarly afforded in respect of each layer of fill placed. The filling operation was undertaken between the 15 th May and the 11 th of September 2015. The material was Site-derived General Fill. Material was placed in approximately 300mm loose layers, with compaction afforded by a 825 Compactor, the compactor sealing off each layer (of General Fill material). The individual loose layers were in-turn compacted to an approximate layer depth of 200mm. The individual layers were field tested to ensure the necessary compaction standard (95% Standard Compaction) was achieved, per Australian Standard requirements. The methodology adopted was considered the best method to achieve compaction using the plant and machinery available. A moisture tolerance of plus or minus 2% of optimum moisture content was required per AS3798-2007 Section 5.3. The moisture content was similarly controlled within both the upper layer of uncompacted material and the material of the previously compacted layer, per (AS 3798-2007 Section 6.2.3). As per AS3798-2007 Section 5.3, where reactive soils were used as fill, the placement moisture content was maintained within the specified range of 90-110% of the optimum moisture content, per (AS 1289. Section 5.7.1) or alternatively moisture variations were limited to 2%. A total of No.29 Field density and Laboratory Hilf Compaction tests were performed. The reports verify the achievement of the minimum density requirement of 95% Standard Compaction throughout the full depth of the fill area, with each layer tested accordingly. All test results were provided to our client Frostdale Civil Contractors for inclusion within their internal quality system (Refer to Appendix B Summary of Results). At the completion of the structural layers any material within 150mm of permanent subgrade level in cuttings was subjected to test rolling; test rolling was undertaken and the layers withstood test rolling without visible deformation or springing (AS 3798-2007 Section 5.5). 4

The lots that are covered by this Geotechnical Level 1 Supervision Report are listed in the table below. Table 1 - Lots under Level 1 Supervision Lot,74 Lot,75 Lot,76 Lot,77 Lot,78 Lot,79 Lot,90 Lot,91 Lot,82 Lot,83 Lot,84 Lot,85 Lot,86 Lot,87 Lot,88 5. Conclusion On the completion of the earthworks and after analysing the materials used, it has been concluded that the filling procedure conducted by Frostdale Civil Contractors satisfied the requirements of AS 3798 in regards to the placement of fill materials on a project under Level 1 Supervision and in accordance with the project specification as provided to Total Geotechnics. This report has been prepared for the benefit of our client with respect to the particular brief given to us and it may not be relied upon in other contexts or for any other purpose without our prior review and agreement. No responsibility for this report will be taken by Total Geotechnics if it is altered in any way, or not reproduced in full. 6. Limitation of This Report This Level 1 Report is valid for a period of twelve months following completion of Level 1 Supervision.
