to the Floor Covering and Building Industries FACT SHEET no.1 SUBSTRATE INSPECTION: Inspect the substrate thoroughly for any evidence of contamination that could jeopardise the integrity of the new DURON coating system. What to look for; moisture is one of the biggest causes of coating failures, new concrete, masonry floors and walls must be more than 3 months old and have a moisture content no higher than 5.5%. Evidence of moisture ingression could present in a white or dark colouring, this could be efflorescence; salt and other minerals being purged out from moisture migrating through the substrate. Ensure there are no existing coatings or contaminants that will need to be removed prior to the new coatings being applied; these could be paint, sealers, curing additives, oil or grease etc. All will affect the integrity of the new DURON coating system. The substrate itself needs to be a good sound surface, solid and free of soft, crumbly or unstable consistencies. If unsure of any of the above please Contact your supplier for further information. inadequate mixing, poor application techniques, non-compliance with curing times, improper thinning of coatings or any other variable beyond our control. No liability will be accepted Duron Pty Ltd 4 Progress Street Yatala Qld 4208 - Ph: (07) 3297 4400 Fax: (07) 3807 9606 Email: sales@duron.com.au
FACT SHEET no.2 SUBSTRATE PREPARATION: Fill all cracks and holes with a recommended filler, patching or levelling compound/resin. Internal floors may be subject to the Australian standards for an even surface, which requires the subfloor to have a tolerance no greater than + or - 3mm over a 3m straight edge. Prepare the floor by sanding or light grinding to smooth off and open the surface of concrete. Contact the technical department of your supplier for recommended products. For greasy, dirty garage floors clean with a recommended detergent, stiff broom and high pressure water-blaster. Acid etching should only be done if grinding equipment cannot be sourced. High pressure-clean immediately thereafter to remove any residue from the acid. Before proceeding to the next phase, ensure that the substrate is completely dry. The best way to check is with a Concrete Moisture Meter with a reading under 5.5% or to tape a small plastic patch on the floor, leave for 24 hours, if the underside shows signs of moisture, it is still too wet. The concrete surface should now be smooth, dry, oil and dust free with the surface sound. All surrounding edges and areas should be masking taped off for a clean finish. FACT SHEET no. 3 DURON PRIMER/SEALER WATER-BASED EPOXY: Mixing: Please ensure DURON primer/sealer being a 2-part mix is mixed thoroughly with a low speed drill or mixer and stirrer, being careful not to aerate. Mix for at least 2 minutes until consistent viscosity is achieved. Mixing Ratio: 50% Part A to 50% Part B. (Refer to TDS Duron Primer/sealer) Ensure that everything is ready. Once the product has been mixed you only have a limited time to apply it before the product starts to harden, usually about 35 to 45 minutes working time only. Application: You can now begin to apply DURON primer/sealer to the surface, using a 10mm nap roller cover and paint brush for edges. Coverage Rate: Usually 1 litre of the mixed epoxy primer/sealer will be enough to cover approximately 8m2 dependent on porosity of substrate. Note: Allow DURON primer/sealer minimum 2-4hrs drying time before next stage of applying DURON basecoat and DURON acrylic flake.
DURON SEAMLESS COATINGS SYSTEMS FACT SHEET no. 4 DURON BASECOAT B WATER-BASED EPOXY: Mixing: Please ensure DURON basecoat being a 2-part mix is mixed thoroughly with a low speed drill or mixer and stirrer, being careful not to aerate. Mix for at least 2 minutes until consistent viscosity is achieved. Mixing Ratio: 50% Part A to 50% Part B (Refer to TDS) ensure that everything is ready. Once the product has been mixed you only have a limited time to apply it before the product starts to harden, usually about 35 to 45 minutes working time only. Coverage Rate: Approximately 1 litre of epoxy is enough to cover 5m2. Application: Apply basecoat with a 10mm nap roller cover and paint brush for edges. Note: This is the main coating that you will be broadcasting the DURON acrylic flake into, so ensure the product is wet enough to allow the DURON acrylic flake to stick. Always leave a wet line between you and the already cast flake area of approximately 200mm. We suggest mixing only a small amount of base coat epoxy at a time (e.g. 4 litre mixes). Please refer to technical data sheets for pot life and drying times as they depend on ambient temperatures
FACT SHEET no. 5 DURON DECORATIVE COLOUR FLAKE APPLICATION: The Epoxy is cut in with a brush around the edges, and rolled out on the floor in recommended 2 to 3 m2 sections at a time, broadcasting flake as you go. Starting from the back wall, lean over the wet epoxy and hand broadcast the flake in an upward and forward direction. Walk sideways and cast the flake until the basecoat has no visible patches of base colour, approximate coverage of flake: Standard 3.75m2 per kilo, Stone Grip 2m2 per kilo and Classic XL 5m2 per kilo if a full coverage is the desired look. Ensure you always leave a wet line between you and the already cast flake area. Proceed with the next section and repeat until finished. Ver.4
FACT SHEET no.6 DURON POLYURETHANE UV STABLE GLOSS (OPTION): Ensure the basecoat and flake surface is completely dry (approximately 6-8 hours). Scrape dry Flake with a Floor Scraper (for Stone Grip use a stiff broom) in a northsouth and east-west direction to dislodge all unsecured flake, vacuum thoroughly to remove all excess loose flake. The floor is now ready for the 1st coat of DURON UV Stable Gloss Polyurethane. Application (1 st Coat): Apply 1st coat of polyurethane with a 10mm nap micro fibre roller cover and brush for edges, at a coverage Rate: 1 Litre to cover 3-4 m2 for the first coat, ensuring an even saturation with no puddles, allow to dry for 6-8 hours. Application (2 nd coat): Light sand to take of any sharp edges, vacuum and apply second coat of polyurethane with a 10mm nap micro fibre roller cover and brush for edges at a coverage rate: 1 Litre to cover 7-8 m2 for the second coat ensuring an even saturation with no puddles.
