(Document: FO:APFC//2) 1145-1200 Item 4: Guidelines for using forest concessions to manage public forests The Secretariat will make a brief presentation describing the set of voluntary guidelines developed to ensure the sustainable management of public production forests in tropical countries through forest concessions. The guidelines have been developed through an extensive consultation process under the aegis of the Forest Concessions Initiative. The Commission will be invited to endorse the voluntary guidelines and encourage their use in the region. (Document: FO:APFC//3) 1200-1330 Lunch 1330-1415 Item 5: Regional strategy and action plan for forest and landscape restoration A presentation by the Secretariat will update the Commission on the status of the Regional strategy and action plan for forest and landscape restoration. The Commission will be invited to endorse the strategy that has been developed and to link forest restoration activities to the strategy and pursue various project opportunities with FAO support. (Document: FO:APFC//4) 1415-1500 Item 6: Forests and climate change: progress since Paris, financing climate action and other emerging issues A presentation by the Secretariat will describe key developments in forest sector responses to climate change since the signature of the Paris Agreement in 2015. The presentation will outline progress in Asia and the Pacific in developing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), as well as updating the Commission on emerging developments relating to issues including REDD+, transparency, financing and adaptation. The Commission will be invited to consider requirements for technical and financial support for implementation of NDCs and modalities for seeking such support. FO:APFC//INF.2 3 0830-0915 Item 9: Trees in urban landscapes The Secretariat will introduce the topic noting key roles that trees and forests can play in developing resilient urban landscapes, outlining key benefits that trees and forests can provide in urban environments, and key governance issues that may hinder the development of urban and peri-urban forests. The Commission will be invited to consider the need to develop specific tools to assist in the development and management of trees in urban landscapes and whether a regional network might be developed to facilitate information exchange in this regard. (Document: FO:APFC//8) 0915-1000 Item 10: Asia-Pacific Forest Sector Outlook Study: the path to 2030 The Secretariat will introduce a proposal that the Commission embark on a third iteration of the Asia-Pacific Forest Sector Outlook Study: the path to 2030. The presentation will outline a process and propose objectives and outputs for the new outlook study. The Commission will be invited to discuss the need for, and relevance of, a new outlook study and provide guidance on aspects of its implementation. (Document: FO:APFC//9) 1030-1100 Item 11: An Asia-Pacific strategy for implementing the Global Plan of Action on Forest Genetic Resources The Secretariat will make a brief presentation on progress in developing an Asia-Pacific strategy for implementing the Global Plan of Action on Forest Genetic Resources. The Commission will be invited to encourage its members to continue to collaborate with APFORGEN in finalizing and implementing the strategy. (Document: FO:APFC//10) 1100-1130 Item 12: The High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition report on Sustainable forestry for food security and nutrition A Secretariat presentation will outline the findings and recommendation of the recently released report on Sustainable forestry for food security and nutrition. The Commission will be invited to discuss the report recommendations and consider requesting that FAO develop guidelines and best practices regarding food security and nutrition mainstreaming in forestry. (Document: FO:APFC//11) 1130-1200 Item 13: A new strategic document for forests and forestry A presentation by the Secretariat will recall a COFO recommendation to develop a new strategic document for forests and forestry and describe developments in key areas covered by the strategy. The presentation will outline the evolution of FAO s Strategic Framework and the potential focus for the new strategic document. The Commission will be invited to provide guidance on an appropriate structure and key components for the new strategic document. In particular, the presentation will describe developments designed to reduce the reporting burden in relation to FRA 2020. Members will be invited to collaborate with FAO and partner agencies to continue to identify synergies in data collection and analysis and the Commission will be invited to consider specific activities in relation to FRA 2020 implementation. (Document: FO:APFC//14) 0845-0900 Item 16: Outcome of global policy processes of relevance for the Regional Forestry Commissions A presentation by the Secretariat will consider key developments and implications of recent global policy processes including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), UNFCCC-COP22, UN Biodiversity Conference, the UN Strategic Plan for Forests, and the 12 th Session of the UNFF. Members will be invited to share their perspectives and consider means for implementation of various outcomes and recommendations of global policy processes as they relate to forests and forestry. (Document: FO:APFC//15) 0900-0915 Item 17: Input to FAO governance A presentation by the Secretariat will describe efforts to strengthen regionalglobal interaction in FAO including greater opportunities for providing regional inputs into setting the agenda for the Committee on Forestry and identifying priorities for FAO s Programme of Work in Forestry. It will also outline opportunities for enhanced input by Regional Forestry Commissions into the respective FAO Regional Conferences. The Commission will be invited to discuss and agree on key policy and technical issues for Asia-Pacific forestry to be referred to the 24 th Session of COFO, to the 34 th FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific (APRC) in April-May 2018, and for inclusion in the FAO Programme of Work in Forestry.
