Main Features The GEM ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System) has the following main features: Fully type approved by DNV according to IEC 61174 Route planning Route monitoring Logbook with playback facility Manual update of charts ARPA and AIS target display and information North up, Head up and Course up modes Relative and True motion display ROUTE PLANNING With GEM ECDIS the operator can plan a route, setting the position of waypoints as well as the length and the angle of the route legs. Furthermore it is possible to set a maximum allowed deviation for the out-of-route alarm and to assign names to the waypoints. It can be useful in some situations to enable the route safety check option, in order to have the system continuously checking that all the route legs inserted by the user are free of danger. ROUTE MONITORING During the voyage along a chosen route, several kinds of information, alarms and warnings are available, such as: Estimate of the time to the next waypoint and to the voyage destination; Direction of the current route leg and of the next one, in order to get ready to haul; Planned speed and direction, with autopilot management; Adjustable out-of-route and waypoint approaching alarms. LOGBOOK Automatic logbook management, with periodic information about ownship position, ARPA tracks, system alarms and possibility to insert individual user notes. It is possible to export the logbook file to.txt format to display its content. Playback facility available.

Aids - Navigation Aids and Safety GEM ECDIS features the following outstanding functions: Navigation Aids Autopilot system Man Overboard Dead reckoning Multiple position sources Navigation Safety Antigrounding control Depth check with safety contour Acoustic and blinking alarms Collision avoidance with ARPA and AIS target detection ANTIGROUNDING Special antigrounding function, with selectable and adjustable parameters to build a safe zone ahead the ship direction. The ECDIS gives blinking and acoustic alarms when ground or dangerous objects are inside this special zone. Angular span of the zone and time to collision can be changed by the user. MAN OVERBOARD A Man Overboard emergency function is provided, enabled by simply pushing a button: immediately a special symbol is drawn on the map in the same spot of the ownship current position. All data about stream direction and speed can be written on a special window to allow the system to calculate and display the movement of the man overboard. The time necessary to go back to rescue the man is also calculated. ANTICOLLISION The anticollision system is a key point for a safe navigation. All the targets detected by ARPA and AIS are automatically checked by the ECDIS to avoid possible collisions with the ownship. This is done dynamically, by continuously predicting the future scenario based on the current cinematic data. Acoustic and visual alarms are immediately activated in case of collision risk. All the ARPA and AIS target information is available on user's request.

MultiChart Loading GEM ECDIS works with the following chart databases: Vector format: ENC type, digitization in 3 different formats: - Standard S-57/DX 90 issued by the National Hydrographic Offices - C-MAP CM93.3 - Primar encrypted charts DNC type, digitization of US military maps: - VPF by U.S. NIMA Raster format: Bitmap type, information from paper maps scanning: - ARCS produced by the UK Hydrographic Offices ENC DNC RASTER

Additional GEM ECDIS has several kinds of additional features: Additional functionalities Five colour palettes are provided to satisfy every bridge lighting condition; Information on demand about targets, chart objects, mariner's objects, etc ; Mariner s objects insertion and definition; Echosounder information; Tides information; Estimated position by triangulation with two or more points; Prediction of future ownship position; Estimated time to reach a waypoint; Distance abeam; Polygonal and sector danger zones; Disanchorage and bearing point alarms. Echosounder Information A special graph obtained from the echosounder data is displayed on a dialog box to show the depth of the water under the ship along the navigation course. All the tides information of the main harbours in the world is provided in a database. ETA to waypoint and distance abeam Very useful functions for navigation, easy to use and very friendly. During a voyage, the estimated time to approach a waypoint of the current route is provided and all the main information about all the waypoints is quickly available. Distance abeam from the current route to a selectable point of the map is provided in a dialog box, together with the range and the time of approach to the point of minimum distance. Tides Information Many kinds of objects are managed by GEM ECDIS database and available to the user to be inserted into the map. AIS and ARPA Information AIS and ARPA target information is graphically visible on the map and it is also possible to display the target data such as position, speed, direction, distance and bearing from the ownship. Mariner's objects Danger zones It is possible to build and set several kinds of danger zones: polygonal, sector, circular. Disanchorage radius and bearing point angle are set by the user.
