Proven Plant Health Benefits Improving plant performance, resistance to disease, and recovery from stress.
It s no surprise that Revolution is trusted by so many turf professionals around the world. It s the only soil surfactant technology that goes beyond water repellency issues, providing comprehensive water management and plant health benefits as well. Revolution s patented formulation creates a thin continuous film of water in the soil profile, balancing air-to-water ratios and increasing the performance of turf under stress. It maximizes the potential of the growing environment, allowing your turf to function more efficiently and perform at consistently higher levels. This reduces the impact of daily stresses on turf health, and promotes quicker recovery when stresses occur. Try it this season and see the benefits for yourself. The world s leading soil surfactant.
Building Healthy Turf from the Ground Up Building healthy turf is much like building a house without a strong and stable base to support it, everything on top becomes more susceptible to structural damage. When it comes to growing great turf, your soil is where it all starts. If the turf s supporting environment is not functioning at its best, neither can your turf. Revolution helps you build healthy turf from the ground up. It works to stabilize water movement throughout the soil profile, helping you more effectively manage soil moisture and more fully utilize the soil s capacity for water distribution and storage. Revolution provides the foundational support your turf needs to reach its fullest potential. Essential building blocks Water and air are essential in the foundation of turf health, and the balance of these components in the rootzone is a determining factor in how efficient photosynthesis can be. Revolution s unique mode of action promotes better moisture access and gas exchange in the rootzone, protecting plant health and making it much more resilient under all types of stress. Cornerstones of a Healthy Plant Sunlight Nutrients Water Air Revolution improves access to 75% of the cornerstone needs for healthy turf! Revolution keeps water moving consistently through the profile, providing plant roots with more reliable moisture access. This enables the plant to photosynthesize more effectively, allowing the plant to make and store greater levels of carbohydrates for use during periods of stress. Unlike older generation surfactants, Revolution holds water more closely to the soil particle in a thin film -- leaving plenty of room in soil pore spaces for air as well. Proper oxygenation of your soil not only supports healthy roots and aids in respiration, but may also play a role in protecting your turf against root-targeting pathogens. Managing your turf with Revolution also boosts the efficiency of other cellular processes. Studies show that Revolution-treated turf has higher protective antioxidant levels, cools itself more effectively through evapotranspiration, and exhibits better leaf turgor for more consistent play.
Protecting Plant Health In testing at Virginia Tech, Revolution has proven to have significant beneficial effects as both a soil surfactant and as a tool to manage plant health and plant stress. Revolution delivered greater moisture availability in drought stress conditions. This resulted in significantly reduced wilting, significantly higher leaf tissue antioxidant levels, significantly higher chlorophyll levels and significantly higher levels of sustained photosynthesis. Turf treated with Revolution had less damage under stressful growing conditions as it was able to increase (up-regulate) natural defense mechanisms and recover faster. Plant health is more than just a buzzword. It s about improving plant performance and making it more resilient in the face of stress. It s about making turf stronger so that it has a greater natural resistance to outside climatic and disease pressures, and can recover more quickly. When stress kicks in, so does Revolution and it can make a dramatic difference in how your turf responds. Research shows that monthly use of Revolution increases antioxidant and amino acid production on a long term basis, which will boost your turf s ability to survive stress conditions. Revolution s unique ability to balance air and water in the rootzone promotes better root growth and healthier, denser turf. As it accumulates in the cells of the leaf blade it thickens the cell solution, which helps the plant to retain more of the water already available inside the cells. This allows important plant cell functions to continue even as water becomes more limiting. In a study conducted by Dr. Erik Ervin at Virginia Tech, turf treated with Revolution contained significantly higher proline content in the leaf blades, while the control showed little or no increase in proline production in response to drought and heat stress.
Improved Root Growth Revolution gets to the root of water management issues. Literally. A healthy plant requires a healthy root system, and having too much or too little water can restrict root formation. By providing an optimal balance of air and water in the soil, Revolution encourages uniform root growth and a strong foundation for turf survival. In studies conducted both in the US and abroad Revolution contributed to the formation of healthier, better developed roots than turf grown under the same conditions with either no treatment or treatment with another surfactant. Healthy Turf is Dense Turf Trials in both the US and Europe showed that Revolution increased turf density up to three times that observed with a competing surfactant and control. The greater number of shoots per unit area not only means better playability, but also better transpiration and evaporative cooling of the turf canopy, requiring less syringing time when temperatures run high. Greater turf density also increases the natural competitive pressure on weeds, lessening the potential for encroachment into fine turf areas. Studies conducted in Japan show that turf treated with Revolution develops healthier root systems. A study conducted at Stockdale Country Club in California yielded similar results.
Protecting Cells from Stress Damage scan with smart phone for video Free radicals are by-products of cell function which are stimulated by environmental stresses such as heat, drought and saturated soils. When a plant is stressed, normal metabolic functions are disrupted and oxygen is left in an unstable state, creating free radicals. Once unleashed in the plant tissues, free radicals disrupt normal cellular activity, destroying cellular membranes, damaging DNA and inhibiting photosynthesis, all of which contribute to summer decline. In response to stress, plants produce protective antioxidants to deactivate free radicals and prevent their harmful effects. As stress factors escalate, the plant steps up antioxidant production to protect itself but can only maintain this increased production for a short time. If free radicals are left unchecked they can overwhelm the plant s natural protective systems, leading to decline in turf quality and increased susceptibility to disease. By perfecting how water is stored and accessed in the rootzone, Revolution sustains the conditions necessary for your turf to maintain antioxidant production and resist stress damage. Antioxidants at Work The antioxidants superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase play important roles in turf health by breaking down damaging free radicals into water and oxygen that the plant can easily dispose of. As environmental stresses increase, the activity of these antioxidants must also be increased and maintained through the stress period for the plant to survive. Reactive Oxygen Free Radical 1. Free radicals (reactive oxygen) are created by daily metabolic processes, and cause cellular damage if not neutralized. 2. SOD reacts with the reactive oxygen free radical and forms hydrogen peroxide. SOD Hydrogen Peroxide Free Radical Catalase 3. Catalase reacts with the hydrogen peroxide, breaking it down to water and balanced oxygen Water H 2 O + Balanced Oxygen O 2
Boosting Photosynthetic Efficiency Chlorophyll a contributes to more efficient photosynthesis, and better production of non-structural carbohydrates that function as an energy reserve to keep turf healthy under stress. It also provides better turf color without the luxuriant growth normally associated with greening products such as nitrogen. Studies done by Dr. Erik Ervin at Virginia Tech show that chlorophyll a is significantly higher in turf treated with Revolution. This allows the plant to withstand high heat and drought more effectively by preventing the buildup of free radicals that can cause cellular damage. By dynamically changing how water travels in the rootzone and making it more readily available to the plant, Revolution helps you tap into turf s natural ability to protect itself against the effects of environmental stress. Using Effectively Thousands of golf course superintendents worldwide use Revolution to achieve exceptionally uniform rootzone moisture levels that allow for drier, firmer putting surfaces while reducing moisture stress on their turfgrass. Following proper application rates and recommendations are key to the full water management and plant health benefits of a Revolution program. For more detailed information on the Revolution program, including tank mixing and irrigation tips, please see the Revolution User s Guide available from your Aquatrols representative or www.aquatrols.com. Initial Application Revolution must be applied at least once a month beginning prior to the anticipated onset of stress conditions in your area. Ongoing Monthly Program Revolution must be used as part of an ongoing management program beginning prior to and continuing through stress periods. A minimum of 3-4 applications must be made to achieve full plant health benefits. If this does not match your agronomic philosophy, Revolution may not be the product for your turf management program. Ask your Aquatrols representative about other product and program options. Revolution is also available in spreadable water dispersible granular formulation. Monthly Application: Apply Revolution at 6oz/1000 ft 2 (190 ml/100 m 2 ) Biweekly Application: Following an initial application of 6oz/1000 ft 2 (190 ml/100 m 2 ), Revolution can be applied bi-weekly at 3 oz/1000 ft 2 (95 ml/100 m 2 ). Watering In Revolution is safe for turfgrass and does not need to be watered in immediately after application. However, since Revolution s area of activity includes both the thatch/mat layer and the soil, it must be watered in sufficiently to deliver the Revolution molecules to a depth of at least four inches (10 cm). This requires about one third of an inch (.84 cm) of water on high sand rootzones or other soils with a sand top-dressing layer of four inches (10 cm) or more. On non-sand soils or push-up greens with less than a four inch (10 cm) sand topdressing layer, apply up to one half inch (1.17 cm) of water. Revolution should be watered in thoroughly the evening following application, and should not be syringed in after application. 1273 Imperial Way Paulsboro, NJ 08066 USA 856-537-6003 800-257-7797 www.aquatrols.com Reorder# 215
