An advanced zip-up standing seam roofing system with unique halter design. Ziplok is a BBA approved, advanced zip-up standing seam system that creates a continuous weathertight roof. The side laps are zipped up in conjunction with a unique halter system that is fixed directly to the supporting structure without penetrating the external weather sheet. This method of secret fixing creates a structurally sound roof that gives excellent resistance to wind uplift with outstanding aesthetic properties. The Systems Approach Ziplok typifies Omnis By System approach to roofing. By offering a complete range of complementary products, we are able to ensure compatibility between components, and more importantly ensure that we provide a roof which performs according to its design criteria in all respects. Apart from the benefits of one stop shopping, the complete approach to the whole system is the only way that the integrity of that system can be guaranteed, or that it can be shown to have compliance with the ever more stringent Building Regulations and Technical Standards. Other benefits of buying from a single source include being able to eliminate problems of colour matching or other incompatibilities, since we are able to ensure that fascias and accessories are produced from the same batch of coated coil as the top sheet. More importantly, the systems approach enables us to calculate variations in terms of acoustic properties and thermal transmissions to suit different applications, as well as loading capabilities, impact resistance etc. 14 15

Features and benefits l Complete range of complementary products l Unique halter design gives superior thermal performance l Lower construction height offers improved aesthetics and greater stability l Micro ribbing helps prevent ripples on smooth curves and resists mechanical damage l Fully complies with new Building Regulations/ Technical Standards l 25 year guarantee available for system components l Specialist site welding services available l BBA approved for various cover widths l Simple layout design reduces installation costs l Insurance backed systems warranties available Widths/dimensions Ziplok is available in three standard widths of 300, 400 and 500mm. In addition, Ziplok can be produced in nonstandard widths at any size from 200mm to 580mm, providing a very cost effective way of finishing roofs and also allowing laying of the sheets to take place from both ends of the roof simultaneously. It also allows designers the freedom to choose the module width or even to mix widths on a single roof. Cost effective As the layout of the liner sheet effectively sets out the halters on site, Ziplok is particularly quick and easy to install when used in conjunction with the Thermohalter. In addition the design of Thermohalter means that the Ziplok sheet snaps onto the halter and therefore does not have to be zipped one sheet at a time, so increasing the speed of construction still further providing an exceptionally user friendly and cost effective construction. 300 ZIPLOK 300 (Shown with micro ribs) 400 ZIPLOK 400 (Shown in flat pan) BESPOKE WIDTHS 200-580 580 200 500 ZIPLOK 500 (Shown as standard without micro ribs) STANDARD WIDTHS 300-400 - 500 Available in Micro rib, Flat pan or without micro ribs Unique Halter Building upon the ever increasing demand to further improve thermal efficiency, Omnis By System has developed the unique Thermohalter. Utilising a resinbased material originally developed for the space industry, thermal transmission through the halter is virtually zero, achieving a part L compliant system which provides 0.25 U Values as standard with 0.2 and 0.16 also available. In addition, the exceptional thermal efficiency of the Thermohalter, which requires no thermal pad, allows the system height to be reduced, both improving the aesthetics and reducing overall construction costs. If required, Ziplok can also be provided as a bar and bracket system using Corogrid as the spacer system. Omnis has eight roll forming machines, three of which are mobile providing on-site manufacture where required. This allows very long sheet lengths, eliminating the need for endlaps and greatly increasing the speed of construction. In addition, Ziplok can be smooth curved down to radii as tight as 2.5 metres convex or 8 metres concave, as well as crimp curved, tapered or wave formed. Materials and finishes Ziplok is available in aluminium, steel, stainless steel, zinc, copper or clad alloy and in a range of finishes. For details see pages 118 to 123. 16 17

METAL ROOFING AND CLADDING SYSTEMS Wind Uplift Omnis unique (optional) microribbing offers improved curveability and resists mechanical damage Ziplok Roof envelope solution Ziplok standing seam roofing systems provide excellent resistance to wind uplift due to their unique fixing method. The thermally broken halter firmly secures the roof system to the steelwork below. The strength of this joint and fixing detail is completed by zipping the side laps together to create a secretly fixed roofing envelope with outstanding structural performance. Wind suction Rain Thermohalter Secretly Fixed Roof failure is the largest single source of litigation in the UK construction industry. Ziplok systems overcome the many issues that can seriously impair the performance and lifespan of metal roofing systems. No Leaks Leaking roofs are accountable for more roofing defects than all other issues put together. Secret fixing to avoid water penetration via the primary fasteners is a step in the right direction, but falls a long way short of providing a complete solution. Approximately 90% of all reported roof leakage is experienced within 10% of the total roof area at perimeter details. Regardless of the degree of fall on a roof slope hips, ridges and penetrations can all be a source of water ingress. Eaves/gutter junctions and verges on lower roof pitches can also become points of water entry. Perimeter Detailing Water ingress at perimeter details is avoided by overlapping and interlocking the upstand seams of Ziplok sheets. This ensures that any water is directed towards the eaves and not back into the building. For low pitch applications the eaves overhang on the topsheet can be turned down to increase the angle of run-off by approximately 20. This is sufficient to prevent the possibility of water entering the building via the junction with the gutter. At hip and ridge positions, the profile can be turned up to form an apex dam across the width of the panel. This detail and the standing seam side lap detail is then overlapped by the verge. Ridge/hip flashings EPDM faced profile filler with shroud Sheets turned up at ridge and hip position water Thermohalter water Eaves turned down Zip up standing seam Ziplok features a secretly fixed true standing seam side lap detail which provides a continuous weathertight roof and excellent protection in all weather conditions. Long Lengths Ziplok is available in very long lengths and can be rolled on-site where sheet lengths exceed that which can be delivered by road. This eliminates the need for end laps and consequently the potential for water ingress. The unique design of Ziplok addresses the problem of leakage without an over-reliance on sealants or a myriad of components. Outstanding Structural Performance Structural performance is another major factor that can result in roof failure. Again Ziplok provides an ideal solution to the most commonly experienced problems. A Complete Roof Envelope A full range of integrated fascias, gutters and flashings are also available providing the designer/specifier with a complete one-stop roofing solution. Made to individual specifications, all are designed to complement the outstanding aesthetic and performance standards of Ziplok. Factory assembled rooflights and a full range of fasteners and fixings complete the comprehensive package. Mini-ribs ensure outstanding resistance to deflection and foot traffic Lateral and rotational stability of light gauge purlins achieved by restraining action of twin fixed halter brackets through liner sheet Rainwater solutions Soffit sheeting Eaves fascia solutions Factory fabricated corner units Omnis Ziplok standing seam system Curved or straight barge boards 18 19

Ziplok System options Thermohalter The unique Thermohalter can be used in the traditional Ziplok system without cold bridging through the system. The liner sheet acts as a template for setting out the halters on site, making this system not only world-beating in terms of performance but also very cost-effective, quick and easy to install. Bar and bracket If required, Ziplok can be used in a bar and bracket system, where the traditional aluminium halter is mounted on a galvanised rail which in turn is mounted on galvanised brackets. Omnis By System recommends Corogrid as the bar and bracket system in this application. See page 108 for details of Corogrid. 20 21

Structural Deck Ziplok system options Structural deck Structural decking offers a simplified method of construction by dispensing with the need for purlins. The structural deck is used to span the portal frames of the building, thereby using fewer components and giving clean lines to the interior of the building. Decking can be nonperforated, web or fully perforated allowing acoustic requirements to be accommodated within this system. Omnis By System also offer a range of structural liner trays, both solid and perforated, which while normally used in wall applications can also be applied in roof applications where a flush interior finish is required. For the full range of decks available see page 80 Corogrid bar and bracket/deck system This is a variation on the original bar and bracket system to offer long span capability. 22 23

METAL ROOFING AND CLADDING SYSTEMS Acoustics Ziplok system options Ziplok is available in numerous acoustic systems. By using a variety of insulation thicknesses and densities a whole host of performances can be achieved. The standard 0.25 U-Value construction also achieves better than 40dB sound reduction. By utilising perforated liner or deck in conjunction with a high-density layer of insulation, significant sound absorption can be achieved. Aluseal layer systems can be purpose designed to achieve a combination of both sound absorption and sound reduction. Our acoustic systems are regularly used in schools, residential projects, sports halls and hospitals. By offering different internal liners which may be pan, web or fully perforated, and varying the density of the Thermohalter/acoustic liner purlin based system acoustic insulation, Omnis By System can offer a wide variety of acoustic absorption solutions. Corogrid bar and bracket/acoustic liner purlin based system 24 25

METAL ROOFING AND CLADDING SYSTEMS Acoustics Ziplok system options Three layer system Omnis By System has pioneered the three layer system of standing seam roof construction. Thermohalter/acoustic deck system Three layer system purlin based When utilising a perforated liner or deck in conjunction with a highdensity layer of insulation, significant sound absorption can be achieved. By incorporating a middle layer of steel sheet, exceptional sound absorption properties can be achieved in conjunction with good sound reduction. For a cost-effective option, the middle layer can be replaced with an Aluseal vapour barrier. Corogrid bar and bracket/ acoustic deck system Similar to Thermohalter system but deeper in construction depth, to achieve various U Values 26 Three layer deck system 27

AntiDrum Reducing the effects of external drumming AntiDrum provides a unique solution to reducing the effects of external drumming caused by rain or hail. Drumming noise can be of particular concern in hospitals, schools or libraries where a quiet environment is required, and with predictions of global warming suggesting that heavy rain storms are on the increase, a cost-effective solution to the reduction of drumming noise will become increasingly valued. AntiDrum s unique noise reduction system, which can be used in conjunction with any of Omnis By System aluminium profiles, works by encapsulating a layer of polyamide membrane between two layers of aluminium which causes direct deadening of reverberation, and entrapment of the noise waves within the layers of dissimilar material. AntiDrum is currently the most cost-effective noise reduction system available, as all other systems require thick and/or high-density materials to absorb the sound. wwtest data shows that at typical frequencies AntiDrum alone will create a 5 to 6dB reduction from rain and hail noise. This equates to a 50% noise reduction when combined with an AntiDrum acoustic system, which can result in a noise reduction of as much as 50dB through the complete system. Installation of profiles is not affected in any way by the AntiDrum noise reduction system as the products behave in exactly the same way as standard products. There is therefore no effect on detailing or any other operations, though the coating should be removed before welding. AntiDrum provides a weight increase of only 0.24kg/sq.m compared with standard product. 28 29

Ziplok Tapered panels Ziplok panels are available rolled tapered, with the UK s first tapering machine. Previously, any tapering of sheets had to be carried out by cutting and welding tapered blanks then roll forming, with the inevitable labour costs which this incurred. Our state of the art tapering machine is capable of rolling tapers in a single pass from coil, and allows the production of tapered sheet at a similar rate to parallel sheet. The roll former is also mobile, allowing tapering to be carried out on site if required. Tapers can be from a minimum width of 200mm at one end to 580mm at the other end, on sheets with a minimum length of 3.5m and up to any length maximum. Tapered sheets will self curve to a 40m radius and can be machine curved to 20m radius if required. 34 35

Ziplok Curved panels Ziplok can be curved in a variety of options to suit the required application. The profile can be concave, convex or wave shaped, incorporating both curves in one sheet. Profiles will self curve to a large radius, otherwise they can be mechanically smooth curved down to 2.5m radius convex curves or 8m radius concave curves. If required, profiles can be crimp curved down to 600mm radius. In all cases, the micro ribbing of the Ziplok profile helps to produce a clean, crisp curved appearance. 36 37

Ziplok Profile Options With micro ribs Without micro ribs Micro ribs Standard profiles are formed with Omnis By System s unique micro ribs, which greatly assist in preventing damage from foot traffic. Perforated Ziplok Perforating the pan of Ziplok produces an attractive finish, particularly in wall applications, where it also allows airflow through the panel. Ziplok FP Profiles can be formed without the micro ribs, or with a completely flat pan (Ziplok FP) if required, creating a wide range of design possibilities. 38 39

EcoZip The living roof system EcoZip is a complete system developed to allow designers to incorporate roof gardens within the Ziplok standing seam structure. Omnis By System supplies all components of the system up to the drainage mat, while the gardening, consisting of the growing substrate and the vegetation layer, is carried out by one of Omnis By System s chosen partners. The integrity of the roof is therefore ensured and there is no effect on any of the standard warranties - indeed EcoZip has many performance benefits over a standard roof in addition to the many environmental benefits. Features and benefits l Green layer removes pollutants from the atmosphere while increasing oxygen and reducing carbon dioxide levels. l Improvement in acoustic insulation, both internal and external l Improvement in thermal insulation, both in winter and in summer l Water retention gives time delayed discharge of excess water, reducing stress on drainage systems l Large proportion of stored rainwater is returned to the natural cycle l Thermal and mechanical protection against temperature, radiation and atmospheric influences l Minimal maintenance requirements Planting substrate Low growing sedums Drainage mat Ziplok profile Insulation Trapezoidal decking sheet Vapour barrier Top hat section Thermohalter Note green roof build-ups vary, according to site conditions 40 41

EcoZip Construction Build up of the roof takes place as in a standard Ziplok standing seam roof, with structural steel deck or liner tray as appropriate. A vapour control layer, consisting of RigiFoil or Aluseal vapour barrier is laid over the trapezoidal sheet to protect against condensation from above and below. Top hat sections are than laid at 45 angles across the vapour barrier, typically at 1.5m centres. Thermohalters are attached in the normal way, with the appropriate thickness of mineral fibre insulation to achieve the desired U-Value, before attachment of the Ziplok 300 or 400 profile top sheet in plain mill finish. Drainage mats are simply rolled into position between the upstands of the Ziplok profiles. The mats allow excess water to drain away while retaining sufficient water to sustain plant growth. Anti-slip bars should be placed at intervals which aid in keeping the drainage mat in place and in preventing slippage of the growing substrate. 42 43

ZipKlip Fixing clamp Fundamental to the ease of construction of Safegrip is Omnis By System unique ZipKlip fixing clamp. Designed specifically to complement Ziplok standing seam profiles, it will however fit any profiles with a bulb shaped seam. Supplied fully assembled, ZipKlip is attached to the seam of the profile with one simple screw, which when tightened through the fixing holes of the walkway simultaneously attaches both items to the roof structure. If required, ZipKlip can be released just as simply, should, for example, the walkway need repositioning. The simplicity of the ZipKlip clamp, with its ability to be repositioned if required, makes it ideal for the construction of temporary walkways or access systems, for example for one-off maintenance requirements. Lokfold Traditional standing seam roofing system Standing seam roofing systems 56 57

LokFold Traditional standing seam system Lokfold is a high-quality, fully supported, metal roofing and cladding system available in a variety of quality metal finishes including pre-painted and mill finish aluminim, copper, zinc and stainless steel. Standard Metals The Lokfold system provides traditional standing seams or batten rolls on pitched roofs or walls. The system is based on metal trays which can be formed in the factory or on site, and which are fully supported by the deck to which they are attached, providing a traditional and aesthetically pleasing roof construction that is also extremely cost effective. Attachment to the deck is made with a combination of fixed and sliding cleats which allow for thermal movement in the length of the tray. The cleats are mechanically folded into the standing seams either by hand or using a portable folding machine. LokFold is available in a variety of metals and finishes: Metal Thickness (mm) Max length of tray (m) Nominal weight (kg/m2) Aluminium 0.9 10.0 2.90 Micro zinc 0.9 10.0 2.90 Copper 0.7 10.0 7.40 Zinc 0.7 10.0 6.00 For details of materials and finishes see pages 118 to 123. Reverse coating of zinc It is traditional to use underlay to separate zinc from the supporting layer unless the system is fully insulated. As an alternative, zinc is offered with a plastic coating on the reverse side. 58 59

LokFold Thermal movements LokFold Product availability LokFold is available in a variety of formats from the plain coil to the fully installed system. Coil For installers who have their own roll forming capacity, Omnis by System can provide coil for this purpose. As major traders in metal products, our buying capacity means that we can provide extremely cost-effective terms, particularly on aluminium and our own micro zinc products. For long strip roofing, it is important to take into account the movements of the strip occurring as a result of temperature changes. The sheet may sustain damage if insufficient expansion allowance is provided at verges or eaves, at roof upstands or at walls. All materials expand or contract when the temperature changes. The change in length of aluminium sheet and zinc sheet is about twice that of steel sheet. The sheet length increases in the summer and decreases in winter. The temperature of the roof material in the summer may be up to 75 C, while in winter it could be conceivably be as low as -35 C. The length of the roof covering also changes, and the calculations below are therefore done to be on the safe side. The temperature of the sheet at the time of the installation determines how the length will change from its original length in the summer and in the winter. The table opposite gives particulars of the change in length in steel sheet that can be expected for different installation temperatures. L is the distance in metres from the point where the movement is zero (fixed point) to the end of the sheet. Temperature at installing C -10 0 +10 +20 +30 Change in length mm Example: Temperature during laying: +10 C Distance L from fixed point to eaves: 7m Change in length at eaves: Expansion in the summer Contraction in the winter +0.8 x 7 = approx +6mm -0.5 x 7 = approx -4mm It is important to allow for thermal movements so that the sheet or its mountings will be not be damaged. Longer strips should be secured by means of both fixed and sliding clips. Space for expansion and contraction must be allowed at joints and connections. Thermal movement in mm Summer (+75 C) +1,0 x L +0,9 x L +0,8 x L +0,7 x L +0,5 x L Winter (-35 C) -0,3 x L -0,4 x L -0,5 x L -0,7 x L -0,8 x L LokFold System Omnis By System can provide a complete system to roofing contractors including the trays (site or factory rolled), clips and other accessories, and sale or rent of specialist tools including seam formers. Supply and Install Where required, Omnis By System can provide the complete supply and installation service using our own team of skilled installers in conjunction with the roofing contractor. 60 61

LokFold Fixing details Although there is no technically correct or incorrect end as a start point for a roof, the direction of the prevailing wind should be considered. In general, each sheet is fixed to the substrate by two fixed clips towards the ridge of the roof, with sliding clips along the length of the slope. The upstand of the next sheet is then laid over and interlocks with the upstand of the tray already in position. The first fold of the upstand is then formed manually as shown opposite, before mechanical crimping of the upstands using the power seamer. The sliding clips allow the metal to expand and contract freely along its length. Across the width, the profile of the sheet allows expansion and contraction through a gap at the foot of each standing seam. Manual Folding Number of fixing clips The wind loads anticipated will determine the number of fixing clips required. Towards the edges or corners of the roof, where the wind loading can be expected to be greater, it is necessary to have a greater concentration of clips. The distance between the fixing clips is determined by the area of the roof as shown in the diagram below. Area A Area B Area C (Middle) One clip every 330mm (Edge) One clip every 200mm (Corners) One clip every 150mm Expansion and Contraction gap Mechanical Crimping Fixed Clips In general, the fixed clips serve to restrain the roofing trays along their upper edge and so direct any expansion movement of the tray towards its lower edge. Where particularly high wind loads are anticipated, it is recommended that the number of clips is increased. Along each upstand, at the highest part of the tray, two fixed clips are required. Each clip is held in position using two cadmium plated screws. It is recommended that for the first clip the upstand is cut to prevent the tray from slipping down the roof during installation. In extremely exposed conditions it is also recommended that the number of clips is increased. Omnis can advise on the appropriate numbers of clips for particular situations. 2 200 (150 on verge) 200 (150 on verge) Sliding Clips The fixed component is secured to the roof decking using three nails or cadmium plated screws The sliding component laps over the preformed upstand and is located onto a slot in the fixed component. The slot in the fixed component must be 70mm in length for all types of metal and in all cases the sliding component must be centred within the slot at installation in order to allow for expansion and contraction of the tray. Decks/liners Structural steel decks and liner trays Metal roofing and cladding systems 78 79

Structural steel decks and liner trays Structural Deck - Thermohalter System Structural decking offers a simplified method of roof construction by dispensing with the need for purlins. The liner sheet is used to span the structural frame of the building resulting in fewer components and giving clean, uncluttered lines to the interior of the roof structure. Use of structural decking can also stiffen the structure and act as a bracing if required. Structural Deck - Membrane System *Omnis By System will be able to propose suitable decking for loading conditions. However if diaphragm action is required the system will have to be referred to a qualified structural engineer for calculation. We can advise on suitable providers if required. Acoustic properties can be designed into the system, thereby engineering sound absorption and transmission characteristics. Structural decks will span up to 10m, dependant on the design load, and once in place provide a strong, walkable surface for the rest of the roofing works. Design requirements Design of structural decking is complex in that certain information is required to tabulate the particular specification. Omnis By System offer this design service, provided that full information is provided on the requirements of the deck, including: l Maximum span between steel frames l Whether single, double or multi-span l Design imposed loads - these should include all positive loads which the decking is required to support, ie design loads of the system above, design loads of anything attached to the underside, snow loads, wind loads and loads imposed by foot traffic. l Wind loads (uplift) l Whether diaphragm action is required * l Acoustic requirements Acoustics Decking is available non perforated or web perforated. Selection will depend on the acoustic requirements. Generally, where sound transmission is an important factor, either in or out of the building, then solid deck should be used. Where sound absorption is critical, for example in sports halls, then perforated deck should be used. Web perforation is generally preferred to full perforation as full perforation significantly reduces the load carrying capacity of the product. Omnis By System can advise on the most appropriate acoustic solutions. Finishes Most decking is supplied either plain galvanised, for when the underside is to be hidden by a suspended ceiling, or in white polyester. Two versions of paint are available. Interior grade is for where no part of the deck is exposed to external weathering, and has a cost advantage over exterior grade which must be used where the deck extends beyond the perimeter walls creating a soffit on the outside. Other colours and finishes are available on request and all decks are also available in plain mill finish aluminium if required or in ARS for high humidity environments. 80 81

Downer Façade support systems Metal roofing and cladding systems 102 103

Riblok CladScreen Creative Profiles Terracotta Downer double bracket Downer single bracket Aluminium Cassettes Downer is a cladding/façade support system which features a unique cladding rail support bracket (CRSB), which has been engineered to provide a universal solution to façades, whatever the building structure, the carrier rails, and whether for fixed or floating-point rail support. The simplicity of the Downer system allows it to be used safely with any System Building Products façades, including Rainscreens, LokFold, LokFaçade and RibLok, as well as other manufacturers own façade systems. 104 LokFaçade 105

The design of the bracket makes it inherently stronger than other similar systems, both in carrying capacity and in pullout strength, which enables fewer brackets to be used making the system faster and more economical to install. Brackets may be either single or double, depending on the load/fixing requirements, and allow for simple positioning of the carrier rails prior to levelling and fixing. Having only one bracket for use either left-handed or right-handed, and for vertical or horizontal applications, makes designing the whole carrier system simpler, quicker and more cost-effective. Downer brackets are made from Grade: 6063 structural grade aluminium, and, if required, come complete with an integral bonded isolation pad in order to provide a thermal break between the building substructure and the façade system. The isolation pad also prevents any corrosion occurring as a result of interaction between the substructure and the aluminium bracket. Carrier rails are extruded from 6082 T6 structural grade aluminium 2.2mm thick, either as L rails for intermediate supports or T rails for extra fixing or where there is a vertical join between façade panels. Rails are available in lengths from 3m to 6m and are compatible with all common cladding materials as well as with structural adhesive systems. 106 107

Corogrid Bar and bracket support system Metal roofing and cladding systems 108 109

Corogrid Features and benefits Corogrid is Omnis By System unique spacer support system, which has been designed for use with double skin metal cladding systems. Suitable for both newbuild and refurbishment applications, Corogrid offers an innovative and cost-effective alternative to the traditional bar and bracket spacer. The system also provides a more stable method of fixing at greater depths to suit the thickness of insulation specified. Unlike other spacer systems Corogrid has the added advantage of the brackets being fixed in place prior to the application of the support bar. This feature makes installation simpler, reduces the potential for human error and is consequently less labour intensive to install. Features and Benefits l Unique spacer support system, designed for use with double skin metal cladding systems l Brackets can be fixed without bar in place, providing easy access to fixing locations (unlike other systems) l Provides a simple and cost-effective construction solution l Reduces the risk of human error and on-site costs l Neoprene thermal break prevents cold bridging and provides an effective vapour seal l Dimpled fixing zone on support bar ensures fastener security l Provides a stable fixing method for all bracket heights l Allows small changes of roof pitch to be achieved by varying the bracket height l Ideal for both newbuild and refurbishment applications 110 111

Corogrid Brackets Corogrid Fixing details Corogrid brackets are manufactured from high-quality 1.5 mm hot-dip galvanised mild steel to BS EN 10143 : 1993 (formerly BS 2989 : 1992). The base of the bracket incorporates a neoprene thermal break which minimises thermal bridging and acts as a vapour seal. Brackets are available in a range of heights from 60 mm to 250 mm which is usually determined by the thickness of insulation specified or pitch of roof required. In refurbishment applications the profile depth of the existing cladding will also determine the height of bracket required. Standard Bracket Height (mm) 60, 80, 100, 120, 140, 150, 160, 180, 200, 220, 240 Other bracket heights are available subject to quantity. The following formula is then applied: Maximum bracket spacing = 3 M x W For example purlins at 2 metre centres with a design wind uplift loading of 1.4kN/m 2, Maximum bracket spacing = 3 = 1.07 metres 2 x 1.4 The brackets should be fixed at convenient centres below the calculated maximum e.g 1m spacings. Corogrid Anti-Sway Bracket Following amendments to Approved Document L of the Building Regulations (England & Wales) roof constructions for buildings other than dwellings now have to achieve a U-Value of 0.25 W/m 2 K. Changes to the U-Value calculation method itself has also meant that repeated thermal bridges need to be taken into account. 40mm 40mm The profiled metal liner sheet is attached to the purlins 55040 fasteners for hot rolled sections. When the brackets or railings in accordance with the manufacturers are fixed in place, the support bar is simply rotated into a recommendations prior to the installation of the Corogrid secure position at 90 to the brackets. A bracket should spacer support system. always be positioned within 75 mm from the leading end of a support bar so that the joint is not subject to bending. A continuous vapour control layer (ULTRA 2000 recommended) is then laid over the liner sheet taking care to The specified type of insulation is then laid over the liner ensure that all laps are sealed. The brackets are then fixed in sheet and beneath the support bars followed by a breather place at predetermined centres using standard self-drilling membrane if required (TALSHIELD 1.6 recommended). fasteners (see Bracket Spacing Requirements on page 114). The outer sheet is then fixed in place in accordance with the For steel purlins up to 3.5 mm thick the use of Rigifix LCS manufacturers recommendations. 55025 self-drill screws are recommended and Rigifix HCS 1 - Setting out the halters 2 - Fixing the halter in place Support Bar Corogrid support bars are manufactured from high quality 1.25 mm Z35 hot-dip galvanised mild steel to BS EN 10143 : 1993. The support bars feature a unique dimpled fixing zone, which ensures fastener security. Available in lengths of 1, 2 and 3 metres (effective length) the bars have a spigot end to maintain a continuous level of support. Bracket Spacing Requirements Using two fasteners into light gauge purlins, the bracket support and fastener assembly has a proven minimum safe working load of 3kN. To calculate the maximum centres of the brackets along the support bar the following information is required: Main purlin centres in metres (M) and the design wind uplift loading in kn/m 2 (W). As a result of these changes the depth of the roof (and the height of the bracket) has more than doubled in twin skin built-up metal roof constructions that incorporate a spacer bar support system. Increasing the depth of a built-up roofing system, particularly at higher pitches can make a roof more susceptible to any destabilising influences e.g. wind uplift. To combat this Omnis have added an Anti-sway bracket option to the highly successful Corogrid Spacer Support System. 3 - Corogrid bar 4 - Bar in position and rotated 5 - Bar clicked into place 6 - Finished construction 112 113

Materials and Finishes Metal roofing and cladding systems 118 119

Materials and finishes Aluminium Aluminium is both stable and durable in most environments, and is frequently supplied in a plain mill finish. It has exceptional longevity and corrosion resistance and doesn t rely on a coating to protect it. However a wide range of colours and finishes are available. The material is almost completely recyclable and in addition to the environmental benefits of using aluminium, there are also considerable benefits in construction. Compared to steel, aluminium is extremely lightweight, approximately one third the density, resulting in low loads on buildings, which is particularly important where large spans are involved, such as are commonly found in large halls and sports areas. It also has a very high strength making it an extremely versatile material. recyclable, and the patina provides it with a lasting, very adherent and naturally reforming protective film, which gives it its long life span and anti-corrosion properties in even the most extreme atmospheric conditions. Titanium zinc Used for its traditional appearance, titanium zinc works well with other materials such as wood, brick, cement and glass. Zinc protects itself and has an exceptionally long life span (40 years in an aggressive urban environment to 100 years in a protected rural environment). It requires nearly no maintenance, and continues to develop its protective layer throughout its life and will self-repair imperfections and scratches. Polyester A cost effective colour coating with a medium term life for both aluminium and steel. ARS (Abrasion Resistant System) ARS is the standard and preferred Omnis paint finish. It is used extensively for wall and roof cladding products and the main benefit of the system is the slightly stippled and extremely hard surface that has excellent scratch resistance without the need for a protective film during construction. The system is a primer with a polyamide modified polyurethane paint to a coating thickness of 28 microns. The addition of the polyamide gives the surface its textured finish and greater resistance to abrasion than other coatings. It has excellent weathering properties and good UV performance, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. PVDF This is an extremely durable system and gives excellent flexibility and chemical resistance, combined with highest possible performance with respect to gloss retention, chalking and colour change on exposure to UV light. The system is a primer with a class one polyvinylidene fluoride/acrylic paint system applied to a total thickness of 25 microns. However, it is more easily scratched than ARS and requires careful handling. Colourbond This is an alkyd-amino based coating of 40 microns thickness, applied by spray with electro-static attraction to the metal and finally stove cured. This results in some wrap around at the edges that ensures that there are no exposed cut edges and it is therefore useful in aggressive environments. Due to the nature of the process, however, sheets are limited to a maximum length of 6 metres. It has the added advantage that a wider range of colours is available and minimum quantities per colour are lower. Special finishes and effects In addition to the standard paint systems, there is a range of special finishes and effects available, including the increasingly popular weathered copper and weathered zinc finishes. The wide pallet of colours and finishes that are available, combined with the ability to curve and taper the panels into almost any shape required, ensures that the Ziplok system remains at the forefront of architecturally pleasing design. Micro zinc Our micro zinc finish provides all the performance benefits of aluminium with the aesthetic appeal of a traditional zinc roof. The coating changes colour and gloss over time in almost exactly the same way as pure zinc. The aesthetic appeal of the zinc appearance is combined in a profile that is lighter in weight and more cost effective than using zinc, yet has an equivalent lifespan. This finish lends itself particularly well for integration into existing buildings or more traditional construction, but can also be used on smaller projects or even residential buildings. In all other respects the micro finish performs in the same way as conventional aluminium profiles, and so may be curved (either convex or concave) or tapered, in order to achieve the most exacting design criteria. In addition, micro finishes can be site rolled if required to achieve maximum flexibility for the product application. Benefits n Significant cost saving over zinc n Total recyclability n Exceptional resistance to weather and pollution n Maintenance free finish Steel Steel is a relatively low cost material and has high strength giving it good spanning ability. For corrosion resistance, steel is supplied not only with a galvanised layer on both sides but also with a range of protective colour systems. Stainless steel Stainless steel is often used because of its attractive appearance, and can be supplied with a range of mechanically applied finishes. It has exceptional longevity, and minimal maintenance requirements. n Available site rolled in sheet lengths over 100 metres n Typical zinc colour variations Copper Copper is exceptionally strong, anti-corrosive and virtually maintenance-free. Its initial bright appearance weathers gradually to a rich green patina. Copper is completely 120 121

Materials and finishes MicroMatt Similar in purpose to MicroPatina, MicroMatt employs a sacrificial coating to provide a cost effective means of replicating the weathering process. Over a period of time, the artificially aged surface is replaced by the naturally aged aluminium substrate. Please note that in certain circumstances this process may result in uneven colour variation across the roof as the sacrificial coating is replaced. MicroMatt MicroPatina Designed to overcome problems of glare from newly installed mill finished or stucco embossed aluminium roofs, MicroPatina weathered finish replicates the appearance of a roof after it has been installed for a number of years and the natural weathering process has taken place. MicroPatina is a clear anodised finish which can be factory applied to any of our aluminium profiles. Stucco embossed aluminium MicroPatina weathered finish MicroBronze MicroBronze is available in a variety of shades, all of which provide an extremely hard and durable product with a lustrous metallic finish.
