The Development/Transportation Engineering Department cannot support this application due to the fact that the proposed retaining wall(s) do not meet the current requirements of By-law 1-88, paragraph 4.1.1: A retaining wall which exceeds 1 metre in height must be set back from the nearest property line a distance equal to its height. The applicant shall provide an alternative plan which would allow for the reduction of the wall height. The retaining wall shall be designed and certified by a professional engineer specialized in structural engineering with seal, signature and date affixed to the construction detail when higher than 1.0m. The design must be accompanied by calculations clearly demonstrating that the wall is structurally designed for the site. The installation of retaining wall if greater than 1.0m to be inspected during construction and certified in writing by a Structural Engineer as to conformity to design and suitability for the site conditions along with the Geotechnical Engineer as it is related to the existing ground conditions prior to the construction of the retaining wall. Also, the above variance application shall be circulated to the TRCA for comments.
