Translation of this policy and procedure will be arranged if requested. This policy offers incentive for Working Longer and would be more proliferate in older staff groups. The policy ensures the Health Board reward staff for service over 20 years which can be considered a benefit of working for PtHB. To show appreciation for those dedicated staff PtHB grants the following Long Service Awards: On Leaving the NHS Argos Vouchers (Reckonable Service 20 years and over) Years of Reckonable Service Award 20 29 years 40 30-39 years 60 40+ 80 In Service Award 300 Payment (Continuous Service of 30 years) This policy is to be read in conjunction with the Long Service Award procedure: Employee Long Service Recognition & Excellence Awards Procedure 2 Objective To reward staff who have served a minimum of 20 years in the NHS. 3 Definitions PtHB Powys teaching Health Board Reckonable Service - Continuous full-time or part-time employment with the present or any previous NHS employer but with the following additions: - where there has been a break in service of 12 months or less, the period of employment prior to the break will count as reckonable service; - periods of employment as a trainee with a general medical practitioner, in accordance with the provisions of the Trainee Practitioner Scheme, will count as reckonable service; Issue Date: 2015 Page 5 of 7 Review Date: 2018
- at employer discretion, any period or periods of employment with employers outside the NHS, where these are judged to be relevant to NHS employment, can be included in reckonable service Continuous Service - Full-time or part-time employment with the present or any previous NHS Employer. If with more than one NHS employer, there must not have been a break of more than a week (measured Sunday to Saturday) between employments. 4 Responsibilities 4.1 Staff Group or Specific Role Employee Advises the manager of their intention to retire or resign from the NHS service and enquire about Long Service award eligibility. It is the responsibility of the staff member to ensure it is made clear to the manager on leaving, that they do not wish to receive any formal recognition. The manager is then responsible to ensure that HR operations do not include the staff member in any formal recognition requests. Provide evidence if the Workforce & OD department can t verify length of service. Manager The manager, on notification of end of employment will complete a termination form and, where the employee has 20 years service or more will complete a request form for Long Service recognition. The manager will ensure that the correct service is stated on the form. and objectives but most importantly in providing high quality care and services to local people. The awards are a way of showing PtHB s appreciation for a job well done and publicly recognising the dedication of our staff. Not everyone will win an award, but each year through the awards we want to celebrate the work of all our employees and highlight the work of teams and individuals who make a particular contribution to providing excellent services in Powys. The award categories will be reviewed annually and published, together with the nomination forms, via PtHB s Intranet.
