Magna Wall Mason s Product Overview, Instructions, & Data Durable Famed Roman structures, such as the Pantheon, Colosseum and aqueducts, are still standing today. One secret to the long-term durability of these structures is that the Roman builders turned to volcanic ash to harness the power of pozzolans. Like Roman concrete, fl y ash pozzolans in the chemically-balanced formulas of Magna Wall masonry cement react to free lime, forming additional cement binder. This leads to greater durability of the Magna Wall masonry cements. MASONRY C E M E N T D 4

Magna Wall Mason s

product Overview Magna Wall Mason s is the green equivalent to ASTM C150 Type I Cement. Basic Use: Magna Wall Mason s is an ASTM C595 Type IP cement (Type I cement with pozzolan addition) and also can be classified as an ASTM C1157 Type GU cement (General Use). It can be used wherever Type IP cements or GU cements are specified or authorized. It is an excellent choice for making cement/lime mortars and stuccos on the job-site. Each year, more standards requiring ASTM C150 Type I portland cement recognize Type IP cements as an acceptable alternative. A Green, User Friendly Green Magna Wall masonry cements provide the Pozzolanic Advantage, and are also the greenest masonry cements on the market. The use of fl y ash a recovered resource reduces depletion of natural resources and conserves landfi ll space. It also reduces the energy-intensive manufacturing of other concrete ingredients resulting in reduced green house gas emissions. By using fly ash, this Portland cement 1P is one of the greenest Portland cement materials available. While this would be enough to justify using this product, it carries with it several additional benefits. When Portland cement hydrates, very fine particles of hydrated lime are given off. Often as much as 20% to 25% of the weight of the Portland cement is given off in the form of fine hydrated lime. Since the pozzolan combines with the lime, the amount of lime available to migrate to the surface and cause efflorescence is reduced. When the lime and the pozzolan combine, they form additional cement binder, which leads to greater strength. This strength gain can continue for an extended period of time. Composition and Materials: A blend of portland cement and high performance pozzolan. Bag Weight: 94 pound bags (42.7kg) Color: Gray Storage: Store in dry area off the ground. Shelf life: Approximately 6 months. General Guidance - Mixing and Application: Do not add air-entraining agents, mortar fat, antifreeze, accelerators, or waterproofing agents, as they may interfere with the chemical integrity of this product. Do not use as mortar, stucco or concrete at temperatures below 35 F, or when freezing temperatures are anticipated within 24 hours. Follow traditional guidelines for curing. p. 2

Magna Wall Mason s

product instructions A. General: Magna Wall Mason s is designed to be used wherever portland cement Type I is utilized. Magna Wall Mason s Portland Cement 1P is available only in bags, thus it is not practical to use in ready-mix applications. The Pozzolanic Advantage As the Romans learned, pozzolans like those used in Magna Wall masonry cements bring many advantages including: Increased Workability B. As a Mortar or Stucco: Magna Wall Mason s is especially useful for job-site mixing of mortars and stuccos because the spherical shape of the pozzolan particles leads to increased workability. The major differences that tradesmen will notice will be the increased workability with less mixing water. Following are suggested starting formulas: Type N Mortar 1 bag MW Mason s 0.5 bag of hydrated lime 4.5 cubic feet of masonry sand Growth in Strength Water Resistance Increased Flexural Strength Reduced Efflorescence Type S Mortar 1 bag MW Mason s 0.25 bag of hydrated lime 3.75 cubic feet of masonry sand Brown Coat Stucco 1 bag MW Mason s 0.5 bag of hydrated lime 4.5 to 7.5 cubic feet of plaster sand Scratch Coat Stucco 1 bag MW Mason s 0.5 bag of hydrated lime 3.75 to 6 cubic feet of plaster sand Texture Coat Stucco 1 bag of MW Mason s 0.5 bag of hydrated lime 2.25 to 4.5 cubic feet of plaster sand C. For Concrete Work: Magna Wall Mason s gives the advantages of pozzolan incorporation to small concrete pours. These advantages include reduced bleeding and segregation, more impervious concrete, reduced expansion resulting from alkali aggregate reaction, and continued strength gain over time. p. 4
