Resilience in Safety, Security & Sustainability Capt. Anuj Chopra, VP Americas 06 September 2017

Promoting Safety & Sustainability Page 2 About RightShip RightShip is an innovative organization with a social conscience, best known for our work on maritime safety. We also have a growing reputation for our work in environmental sustainability.

Promoting Safety & Sustainability Page 3 Resilience in port operations Safety & Efficient operations Security & Risk management Sustainability & Emissions

RightShip Promoting Safety & Sustainability Page 4 Serious & total losses 1999 ~2016 >500GT What has changed? Budget cuts? Lack of maintenance?

xxxx Bulkers PSC Detentions - Older vessels show higher Detention rate - Improved PSC enforcement? - Lack of maintenance? - RightShip Inspection - 14 yrs 1/1/2018

RightShip Qi & predictive analytics Page 7 What is Big Data? Too much Data, too little wisdom!

RightShip Qi & Predictive Analytics Page 8 What are we trying to predict? PSC Detentions? PSC Deficiencies? Incidents? Casualties? The likelihood of incident in next 12 months Maintenance Shortfalls?

RightShip - Promoting Safety & Sustainability Page 12 Unfortunately there are still shipping companies which have made a deliberate choice to operate substandard ships.... These conditions are unacceptable Perhaps the risk of being detained and rectifying deficiencies outweigh the costs of running a bonafi de operation... and will be enforced rigorously. Some of these ships are published Unfortunately the seafarers on these ships have to live under often horrendous working and living conditions... on our web site in caught in the net. Sometimes crew are waiting for months to get paid or they are not allowed their leave on time...

Incentivizing Sustainable Shipping Page 25 Methodology FUEL CONSUMPTION CO 2 EMISSIONS Single Voyage and Long Term Time Charter Chartered vessel AIS tracking (satellite) utilized Origin and destination of journey Speed and distance Replaced vessel Design particulars Estimate journey Methodology: ~3rd GHG Study

Incentivizing Sustainable Shipping Page 26 Results AVERAGE SAVINGS: 5.2% 8.6% Case-by-case assessment 247 cases assessed 136 cases suitable for comparison Fuel Consumption and CO 2 Savings Majority of individual cases achieved savings Charter party key factor: Size / utilization Speed (design speed) Shipmap.org

Incentivizing Sustainable Shipping Page 27 Conclusion AVERAGE SAVINGS: 5.2% 8.6% Explicitly considering fuel efficiency in chartering decisions offers significant fuel, financial, and emissions savings

Partnering for Sustainable Ports Page 28 Page 28 GHG Emissions rating Robust Methodology: DNV GL reviewed Easy to use, understand Corporate Social Responsibility, transparency Reduces CO 2 & associated emissions Cheaper to run: Tyndall research Free of charge: www.shippingefficiency.org

Partnering for Sustainable Ports Page 29 Page 29 Port INCENTIVE PROGRAM In Americas.. Implemented in Vancouver & Port Prince Rupert Working with Lazaro Cardenas, Ensenada, Port of Quebec, Port of Montreal...

Partnering for Sustainable Ports Page 30 Page 30 How DOES THE PROGRAM work? Port determines incentive program to reward energy efficient vessels 1 Vessel Verifies data & agent applies for discount 2 Port verifies eligibility from RightShip Database 3 Port issues incentive

Partnering for Sustainable Ports Page 31 Page 31 Port Incentive Program 6 Step RoadMap 1 Initial engagement with ports to scope will and capability to offer incentives 2 3 4 5 6 Overview of structure and benefits within a environmental incentive program Benchmark historical vessel arrivals to estimate potential cost implications for the port incentive program Port internal approval process determine structure of incentive program including cost, administration, communications and operational requirements Develop a joint media plan and schedule for press release Implement environmental incentive program, including ongoing monitoring and program reviews

Incentivizing Sustainable Shipping Page 32 Partnering for Change Key benefits for ports Reduced emissions in port & the voyage Increase cargo volumes reduce GHG emissions Monitor and track emissions per call Public image / stakeholder relations Health benefits all stakeholders

RightShip - Promoting Safety & Sustainability Page 33 Secure the Maritime Supply Chain, be Profitable! Accelerate industry sustainability - working together Opportunity to incentivize energy efficiency P I P Transparency & Resilience Eco Vessels = Healthy / Profitable / Safer Vessels = Lower Risk
