PART 1 GENERAL 1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and general provisions of the contract, including general and supplementary conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. This Section includes the following horizontal and trim solid surface product types: 1. Solid Surface material countertops. 2. Solid Surface material backsplashes. 3. Solid Surface material sidespalshes. 4. Solid Surface material aprons. 5. Solid Surface material sinks. B. Related Sections include the following: 1. Division 6 Section Rough Carpentry for Blocking. 2. Division 15 Section Plumbing Fixtures. 3. Division 16 Section Wiring Devices. W 1.3 DEFINITION A. Solid surface is defined as nonporous, homogeneous material maintaining the same composition throughout the part with a composition of acrylic polymer, aluminum trihydrate filler and pigment. 1.4 SUBMITTALS A. Product data: 1. For each type of product indicated. 2. Indicate product description, fabrication information and compliance with specified performance requirements. B. Shop drawings: 1. Show location of each item, dimensioned plans and elevations, large-scale details, attachment devices and other components. a. Show half-size details, edge details, thermoforming requirements, attachments, etc. b. Show locations and sizes of furring, blocking, including concealed blocking and reinforcement specified in other Sections. c. Show locations and sizes of cutouts and holes for plumbing fixtures, faucets, soap dispensers, waste receptacle and other items installed in solid surface. C. Samples: 1. For each type of product indicated. a. Submit minimum 10-inch by 10-inch sample in semi-gloss finish. March 10, 2015 Page 1 of 5

b. Cut sample and seam together for representation of inconspicuous seam. c. Indicate full range of color and pattern variation. 2. Approved samples will be retained as a standard for work. D. Manufacturer certificates: 1. Signed by manufacturers certifying that they comply with requirements. E. Maintenance data: 1. Submit manufacturer s care and maintenance data, including repair and cleaning instructions. a. Maintenance kit for finishes shall be submitted. 2. Include in project closeout documents. 1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Fabricator Qualifications: Shop that employs skilled workers who custom-fabricate countertops similar to that required for this Project, and whose products have a record of successful in-service performance. B. Fabricator/installer qualifications: Fabricator of countertops. C. Applicable standards: 1. Standards of the following, as referenced herein: a. American National Standards Institute (ANSI) b. American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) c. National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) d. NSF International 2. Fire test response characteristics: a. Provide with the following Class A (Class I) surface burning characteristics as determined by testing identical products per UL 723 (ASTM E84) or another testing and inspecting agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction: 1) Flame Spread Index: 25 or less. 2) Smoke Developed Index: 450 or less. 1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING A. Deliver no components to project site until areas are ready for installation. B. Store components indoors prior to installation. C. Handle materials to prevent damage to finished surfaces. 1. Provide protective coverings to prevent physical damage or staining following installation for duration of project. 1.7 WARRANTY A. Provide manufacturer s warranty against defects in materials. 1. Warranty shall provide material and labor to repair or replace defective materials. 2. Damage caused by physical or chemical abuse or damage from excessive heat will not be warranted. B. 1. To qualify for the optional Installed Warranty, fabrication and installation must be performed by a DuPont Certified Fabrication/Installation source who will provide a brand plate for the application. 2. This warranty covers all fabrication and installation performed by the certified/approved source subject to the specific wording contained in the Installed Warranty Card. C. Manufacturer s warranty period: 1. Ten years from date of substantial completion. 1.8 MAINTENANCE A. Provide maintenance requirements as specified by the manufacturer. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 SOLID SURFACE COUNTERTOP MATERIALS A. Solid Surface Material: Homogeneous-filled plastic resin comply with ICPASS-1 (Corian is basis of design). Type: Provide Standard type unless Special Purpose type is indicated. Integral Sink Bowls: Comply with CSA B45.5/IAPMO Z124. (Corian 810P) Colors and Patterns: As selected by Agency from manufacturer's full range. 2.2 COUNTERTOP FABRICATION A. Fabricate countertops according to solid surface material manufacturer's written instructions and to the AWI/AWMAC/WI's "Architectural Woodwork Standards." B. Grade: Economy. C. Front: Eased, Roundover D. End Splash: Straight. E. Countertops: ½ inch thick, solid surface material. F. Backsplashes: ½ thick, solid surface material. G. Fabricate tops with shop-applied edges unless otherwise indicated. Comply with solid surface material manufacturer's written instructions for adhesives, sealers, fabrication, and finishing. - Fabricate with loose backsplashes for field assembly. - Install integral sink bowls in countertops in the shop. H. Joints: Fabricate countertops without joints. I. Joints: Fabricate countertops in sections for joining in field. J. Cutouts and Holes: Undercounter Plumbing Fixtures: Make cutouts for fixtures using template or pattern furnished by fixture manufacturer. Form cutouts to smooth, even curves. Fittings: Drill countertops in shop for plumbing fittings, undercounter soap dispensers, and similar items. 2.3 INSTALLATION MATERIALS A. Adhesive: Product recommended by solid surface material manufacturer. March 10, 2015 Page 3 of 5

B. Sealant may be required for joints at walls. If retaining "Sealant for Countertops" Paragraph below, coordinate with Section 07900 "Sealants." C. Sealant for Countertops: Comply with applicable requirements in Section 07900 "Sealants." PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION Examine substrates to receive solid surface material countertops and conditions under which countertops will be installed, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of countertops. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 INSTALLATION A. Install countertops level to a tolerance of 1/8 inch in 8 feet (3 mm in 2.4 m), 1/4 inch (6 mm) maximum. Do not exceed 1/64-inch (0.4-mm) difference between planes of adjacent units. B. Fasten countertops by screwing through corner blocks of base units into underside of countertop. Predrill holes for screws as recommended by manufacturer. Align adjacent surfaces and, using adhesive in color to match countertop, form seams to comply with manufacturer's written instructions. Carefully dress joints smooth, remove surface scratches, and clean entire surface. C. Fasten subtops to cabinets by screwing through subtops into cornerblocks of base cabinets. Shim as needed to align subtops in a level plane. D. Secure countertops to subtops with adhesive according to solid surface material manufacturer's written instructions. Align adjacent surfaces and, using adhesive in color to match countertop, form seams to comply with manufacturer's written instructions. Carefully dress joints smooth, remove surface scratches, and clean entire surface. E. Bond joints with adhesive and draw tight as countertops are set. Mask areas of countertops adjacent to joints to prevent adhesive smears. 1. Install metal splines in kerfs in countertop edges at joints, if indicated. Fill kerfs with adhesive before inserting splines and remove excess immediately after adjoining units are drawn into position. 2. Clamp units to temporary bracing, supports, or each other to ensure that countertops are properly aligned and joints are of specified width. F. Install backsplashes and side/end splashes by adhering to wall and countertops with adhesive. Mask areas of countertops and splashes adjacent to joints to prevent adhesive smears. G. Install aprons to backing and countertops with adhesive. Mask areas of countertops and splashes adjacent to joints to prevent adhesive smears. Fasten by screwing through backing. Predrill holes for screws as recommended by manufacturer. H. Complete cutouts not finished in shop. Mask areas of countertops adjacent to cutouts to prevent damage while cutting. Make cutouts to accurately fit items to be installed, and at right angles to finished surfaces unless beveling is required for clearance. Ease edges slightly to prevent snipping. I. Apply sealant to gaps at walls; comply with Section 07900 "Sealants." ++ END OF SECTION ++ March 10, 2015 Page 5 of 5
