Tunnel Experts Bouygues TP specializes in underground works, complex civil engineering projects, structural works as well as public highways, port and transport infrastructures. Currently 15,000 workforce at 18 projects around the world, including the Port of Miami Tunnel Project. Globally known for building The Chunnel (The English Channel Tunnel), completed in 1994, Bouygues extensive tunneling experience includes: 71 Tunnels around the world since 1971 8 Tunnels currently under construction (Hong Kong, Cairo and Miami) 45 (57%) of those tunnels built by shield TBMs

POMT Project

TWIN TUNNELS

Tunnels are 4200 ft. long (Previous 3900ft) +40 ft. under the bottom of Government Cut 5% Grade 5 cross passages Ground Improvement Required

Ground Improvement Watson & Dodge Island SOEs/Ground Improvement: CSM SOE Walls SOE Tie-backs Type I Tie-downs (Minipiles) Type II Tie-downs (Drilled Shafts) TBM Break In/Out Plug (CSM with Secant Pile Infill) SSM Column Ground Improvement CSM Barrettes

SOIL TREATMENT The complex and challenging Geology of South Florida required specific treatment to receive the TBM due to the shallowness and proximity of the twin tunnels: Overburden Barrettes Shallow Soil Mixing (SSM) CSM Barrettes Panels Shallow Soil Mixing 9 diameter SSM Tool 10-23 deep

Overburden CTB Production for Overburden CTB up to elevation (1400cy) Overburden Construction: Assembling Concrete Panels

BCWF S EXTENSIVE COMPLEMENTARY GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION The Complementary Geotechnical Investigation included: Standard penetration tests Cone penetration tests Sonic cores Wells for permeability and water flow testing Large diameter shafts On Watson Island, Dodge Island and in the Channel 152 holes in CGI, in addition to FDOT s 87 holes Equates to an average spacing, portal to portal, of one investigation hole every 32 feet

Grout Testing Program Mix Design: A pumpable, stable mix with low strength, high penetrability but high thixotropy, and excellent filtrate resistance (very difficult combination to achieve). Most unusual mix design which satisfies all criteria and has clearly performed well. This is indeed the optimum grout mix called for in the Geotechnical Baseline Report.

TUNNEL OPERATIONS

TUNNEL SUPPORT OPERATIONS: Under MacArthur Bridge Batch Plant Water Treatment Plant Cooling and power systems Mechanical Storage TBM Access Ramp

Tunnel Operations The TBM started boring November 11, 2011. TBM runs 7 days a week, 20 hours a day = 14 months. TBM maintenance = 4 hours: 7:00 am to 11:00 am. Tunnel Spoil Management Area on Watson Island. To minimize impact to vehicle traffic, about 75% of spoils removal occurs between non-peak hours: 6:00pm and 7:00am. Street sweepers and water spray trucks operate daily to ensure roads remain clean. TBM is approximately 1,200 feet into its voyage.

Tunnel Excavation Approximately 400,000 cubic yards of material will be excavated during the construction of the two tunnels. As the TBM bores, the excavated material is evacuated from the tunnel using a conveyor belt or a piping system. The conveyor and piping systems transport the soil out of the tunnel to the Soil Management Area (SMA) on Watson Island. The excavated material traverses across MacArthur Causeway Eastbound and Parrot Jungle Trail by means of a fully enclosed overhead steel support structure.

DODGE ISLAND

DODGE ISLAND Roadway reconfiguration ongoing on Dodge Island TBM Receiving Pit SOE and Excavation now complete. Tremie Concrete Pour and Dewatering next. Pit is similar in size to Watson: About 400ft wide, 100ft long, 40ft deep. TBM to break-through Summer 2012. SOE Box
