MAHARASHTRA Flood report as on 1 st August, 05 Moderate rains have been reported in Mumbai and Konkan region in the State during the last 24 hours. In the rest of the State, isolated light rains have been reported. River Godavari at Kopergaon is flowing at 491.59 m as against its warning level of 490.90 m with a falling trend. Flood water in all affected districts has receded and these districts are returning to normal. Approximately 250 villages in these districts and about 10 million population has been affected by the recent rains/floods. About 10,000 houses have reportedly been damaged. Approximately 100 000 people who had been evacuated to safer places. About 10,000 people are still staying in the Relief camps. They are also likely to return to their places by tomorrow. Out of about 60 relief camps in rural areas in Nanded, Parbhani and Raigad districts and 50 relief camps in Mumbai suburban only 10 relief camps are functioning in Nanded. All remaining relief camps have been closed. These 10 camps are also likely to be closed by tomorrow. The State has engaged about 2000 municipal employees, drawing them from non affected areas, for clearing mud and slush in various districts including in Bhiwandi in Thane district. Water supply system has become normal except in certain areas. Shahad town in Thane district is having serious problems of water supply. Drinking water is being supplied here through water tankers. Restoration of water supply system is likely to be completed by tomorrow. Total 853 deaths and 71 injury cases have been reported in the State. Jui village(raigad district) several houses have come under a massive landslide here. About 100-150 persons are feared buried under the debris. The rescue work is being carried out since 27/7/05 by about 100 Army personnel and 4 SAR (Search and Rescue) teams of the State. 24 dead bodies have been recovered so far. The removal of debris is likely to take another 6-7 days. Kondivita (Raigad) During recent rains, about 4-5 houses had come under a heavy landslide where about 20 persons are feared trapped. Local administration is doing the debris removal work which may take another 1 or 2 days. 20 dead bodies have been recovered so far. Sakinaka (Andheri East) 35 houses were buried under the landslide here during the recent rains. 90 dead bodies have been recovered so far. Army and fire brigade personnel are engaged in rescue work for the last 3 days. The debris removal work is likely to take another 1-2 more days. About 200 medical teams consisting of 1 medical officer and 3 para-medical staff in each team have been sent to flood affected areas for providing medical assistance and taking prevention/control measures of any post-flood epidemic situation. 50 medical teams are operating in Mumbai suburban and 150 teams in rural areas. The State is organizing hygiene awareness campaign on cable/tv programmes and through press briefings for use of alum, boiling drinking water etc. by public. The State has distributed 85,000 food packets and other NGOs like ISKCON and Red Cross etc. have distributed 600 000 food packets so far. Community kitchen service is being provided at relief camps by the State as well as NGOs. The Govt. of Maharashtra will submit a memorandum on the losses caused by the floods based on damage assessment and special needs of the city of Mumbai. A visit by a Central team of flood affected areas in the State for assessment of Central assistance is likely to take place shortly after the receipt of the memorandum from the State. KARNATAKA Light to moderate rainfall has been reported in interior and coastal Karnataka. Because of relief of water from Narayanpur reservoir into the Krishna river, a number of villages in Belgaum district have been affected as per details given below: In Athani Taluk 11 villages have submerged and are cut off from the rest of the State. The villagers are being evacuated in boats to safer areas.

In Riabag Taluk, a number of villages are reported to have come under submergence A flood alert has been sounded in the following areas in view of increase in river waters Villages on the banks of river Kaveri downstream from KRS Reservoir. Low lying areas on the banks of river Krishna in Belgaum district. Low lying areas on the banks of river Bhima in Gulbarga district. A number of houses have reportedly collapsed in Belgaum and Dharwad districts due to heavy rains. The total loss/damage to public and private property is estimated to be Rs.106.22 crore. ORISSA Light to moderate rainfall has been reported on 30 th August over North and coastal Orissa due to low pressure area after two days of heavy rainfall in these areas. River Baitarni at Akhuapada is flowing at 18.84 m as against the danger level of 17.83 m and at Anandpur at 38.26 m as against the danger level of 38.36 m with a rising trend at both these places. River Salandi at Bhadrak is flowing at 10.55ft as against the danger level of 10.00 ft. Bhadrak and Jajpur districts have been affected as per details given below: Bhadrak district Blocks affected 4 (Dharmnagar, Bhandaripokhari, Chandbali & Tihidi) GP affected 60 Villages affected 322 Population affected 374 000 Jajpur district Blocks affected 6 (Dasarathpur, Jajpur, Korei, Bari, Binjharpur and Rasulpur GP affected 92 Villages affected 419 Population affected 424 000 Human casualty 1 due to wall collapse The State has alerted the district administration in Keonjhar, Jajpur and Bhadrak districts to keep in readiness to meet any eventuality. The state is keeping a close watch on the situations. ASSAM River Brahamputra at Dibrugarh is flowing at 104.96 m as against the danger level of 104.24 m. with a steady trend. Rivers Brahmaputra (at Neamatighat, Jorhat, and Dhubri) Jai Bharali (at Sonitpur) Dhansiri (at Numaligarh and Golaghat) Puthimari (at Puthimari NTX) and Beki (at Beki NHX) are flowing above their warning levels. The cumulative impact of the recent floods in Assam is given below :-

Villages affected - 449 3. Population affected- 366 000 4. Human lives lost - 13 5. No. of houses damaged - 97 Overall flood situation in the State has improved substantially. Restoration of breaches is being taken up by the State Govt. BIHAR Light rainfall has been reported in some parts of the State. Rivers Ganga (at Kolgong/Kahalgaon), Ghaghra (at Darauli) Bagmati (at Benibad), Kosi (at Basua, Baltara & Kursela) are flowing above their warning levels. UTTAR PRADESH Rivers Yamuna (at Mawi), Ghaghra (at Elgin Bridge, Ayodhya, Turtipar) and Gandak (at Khadda) are flowing above their warning levels. Flood situation in the state is reported to be under control. WEST BENGAL River Ganga at Farakka (West Bengal) is flowing at 21.87 m as against the warning level of 21.25 m with a falling trend. All other rivers in the state are flowing below their warning level. ANDHRA PRADESH River Godavari (at Eturunagaram and Bhadrachalam) is flowing above its warning level with a rising trend. GUJARAT During the last 24 hours rainfall is recorded in 159 Talukas of 24 districts with 173 mm as maximum in Jamnagar taluka of Jamnagar district. All rivers in the State are reported to be flowing below their danger levels.

Narmada Dam: against the HFL 110.64 m at dam site, the present water level is 112.91 m i.e., overflowing at 2.27 m. Relief and restoration work is in progress in the State. Power and water supply have been fully restored in the affected districts of the State. Road communication has been restored in almost all affected areas barring 03 State roads on which the repair works are in progress. Moreover, repair and restoration work on two damaged bridges i.e. at Amreli and Limdi-Dhandhuka are also in progress. The State Government has deployed 964 medical teams, 310 medical officers, and 2,252 para-medics to the affected districts in the State. During the monsoon season, total 213 persons have died due to drowning, collapse of house walls and lightning, while 11 persons are reported missing. WHO-- the emergency medical relief team is in touch with the Ministry of Health and family welfare and state relief and Rehabilitation department.
