The increase is mainly attributed to increase in prices of pulses and to some extent the prices of oilseeds. During the previous year this index was 1188 and 1229 points in June 2015 and September 2015 respectively.

Higher decrease in the index of Oilseeds and Other Food Articles has resulted decrease in the index of Food Articles. During 2015, the index of Food Articles increased from 257.9 in June 2015 to 264.4 in September 2015. During the previous year the WPI was 179.1 in June 2015 and 176.5 in September 2015. During the corresponding period of the preivious year Hubballi-Dharwad centre recorded the highest increase in index of 5 points followed by Bengaluru and Mysuru centres by 2 points. This Index went up in July 2016, then came down in August and September 2016. During the corresponding period of the previous year this index was increased by 1.91%. In Karnataka, CPI-IW moved to 6885 points in September 2016 from 7004 points in June 2016, recorded an decrease of 119 points i.e. an decline of 1.70% and the corresponding increase during the previous year was 1.42%. During the corresponding period of the previous year maximum increase in index was observed in Delhi by 13 points and Hyderabad by 11 points. In Rural areas, the retail prices of Ragi, Jowar, Groundnut Oil, Wheat, Rice, Drychllies and Sugar increased by 11.98%, 11.68%, 7.85%, 4.96%, 2.53%,1.55% and 1.08% respctively, where as the retail prices of Turdal, Coconut Oil, Coconut and Potato decreased by 7.09%, 5.68%, 3.54% and 1.35% respectively in September 2016 over June 2016. Where as in Karnataka the general index moved to 996 in September 2016 from 962 in April 2016 to showing a rise of 3.53%. During 2015-16, the indices of Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity sectors stood at 69.38, 194.29 and 196.14 showing a decline of, 4.41% in Electricity sector and positive growth of 2.34% in Manufacturing sector and 19.74% in Mining sector over a previous year i.e. 2014-15. During 2014-15, the corresponding indices stood at 57.94 in Mining sector, 189.85 in Manufacturing sector and 205.19 in Electricity sector.
