Categorizing the overflow Category I: An overflow more than 1,000 gallons or any overflow that reaches the waters of the State Category II: An overflow less than 1,000 gallons

How Central San responds This is why a sewer overflow into a storm drain is considered a Category I overflow (one that reaches the waters of the State)

Step 1: Clear the blockage

Some of the tools of the trade

Step 2: Test the water As soon as the creek is first sampled, the test kit is rushed to Central San s laboratory in Martinez A test request form is completed and the lab gets to work We test continuously until the sample results are statistically clean
