Successful introduction of spur type apple at Tabo in the Spiti valley in 1996 led to large scale cultivation of apple in the cold dessert area. Screened drought stress tolerant cultivars of olive; kiwifruit cultivars that can withstand water stress and Kainth (Pyrus pashia) and Quince BA 29 as drought stress tolerant root stocks for pear. Developed in-situ water conservation techniques and use of PGRs and nutrients for mitigating water stress in olives. Four recommendations have been adopted at national level. Standardized techniques for high density planting in July Elberta peach on seedling root stocks using soil and foliar application of paclobutrazol. Developed techniques for controlling fruit splitting, improving fruit size and quality in pomegranate cultivars G-137 & Kandhari using in-situ moisture conservation and foliar application of CPPU and boric acid. Developed technique to reduce high water requirement in kiwifruit that may help to extend its cultivation to the areas where sufficient water is not available for irrigation. Developed techniques for the improvement of fruit set in pears under the changing climatic scenario, using combined application of GA 3 at 10 ppm + BA at 5 ppm at full bloom.
