1 Nutrition Forum World Food Programme & City of Rome 31 May & 1 June 2010 The World Food Programme (WFP) has recently established a partnership with the City of Rome to raise awareness and build support for activities that help WFP fight hunger and improve the nutritional status for the most vulnerable people in the world. Rome, as the home of the three United Nations food agencies FAO, WFP and IFAD has long served as a convening point for international focus on food security and nutrition. As the first step in its partnership with the City of Rome, WFP will launch a Nutrition Forum on 31 May and 1 June in Rome. The two-day event will bring together international experts from around the world to help advance global efforts to solve child malnutrition and it will consist of two parts: A Meeting on Scaling-Up Nutrition - A Framework for Action A High-level dialogue on Building a Global Nutrition Movement During the first portion of the event, leading nutrition experts will discuss a global framework for action for addressing undernutrition and the efforts needed to raise global political attention and necessary resources for scaling-up nutrition interventions. The Mayor of Rome Mr. Gianni Alemanno and WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran will launch the high level dialogue of the program, which will be moderated by Mr. David Nabarro, UN Special Representative on Food Security and Nutrition, and will include panellist across various sectors: Mr. Mauricio Adade, President Human Nutrition & Health, DSM Mr. He Changchui, FAO Deputy Director General Ms. Marie Konate, CEO leading producer of fortified infant cereal products, Cote d Ivoire Ms. Katherine Kreis, Senior Programme Officer, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Dr. Victoria Quinn, Vice President of Programmes, Helen Keller International (HKI) Dr. Mary Shawa, Principal Secretary, Nutrition/HIV/AIDS, Office of the President, Malawi Mr. Marc van Ameringen, President, Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) The dialogue will address how nations and agencies can build upon international efforts on food security and health to raise momentum and resources on nutrition and improve the lives of millions of children globally. 1
