1 Product guide Robust, innovative control of broadleaf weeds
2 WHAT PRECEPT 3 EC CAN DO 3 CAPEWEED* 3 DEADNETTLE 3Volunteer field pea 3 FUMITORY 3 INDIAN HEDGE MUSTARD Control key broadleaf weeds, including: * When mixed with Lontrel 3 SOWTHISTLE (MILK THISTLE) 3 volunteer canola 3 volunteer chickpea 3 volunteer lupin In all the major winter cereal crops: 3 volunteer sub clover 3 WILD RADISH 3 WILD TURNIP 3 WIREWEED 3 WHEAT 3 BARLEY 3 OATS 3 CEREAL RYE 3 TRITICALE More weed registrations are expected over the coming seasons as further trial s are assessed. WHEN TO CHOOSE PRECEPT For post-emergent control of hard-to-kill weeds To control Group B, Group C and Group F resistant wild radish As the second spray in a two-spray strategy to control multiple germinations of wild radish. When a robust product is required to handle advanced weeds (> 4-leaf), or high weed density (over 75/m 2 ) is an issue. As an innovative mode of action to combat resistance. When exceptional crop safety is required in wheat, barley, oats, cereal rye or triticale. Use 5 L water/ha for younger or relatively sparse weeds and 7 15 L water/ha for older weeds (over 4-leaf at application) or heavy weed density (>75 /m 2 ). Use a recommended crop oil or spray-grade liquid ammonium sulphate as an adjuvant. Aerial application Aerial application is less reliable than boom-spraying, so: Treat target weeds at the earliest possible growth stage. Use the higher label rate of Precept where a range is indicated. Apply in a minimum of 3 L water/ha with Hasten rather than ammonium sulphate as the adjuvant. DO NOT allow aircraft to spray too high above the ground. DO NOT exaggerate the swath width. Good coverage of each weed is important. REFER TO THE PRECEPT LABEL FOR DETAILS OF THE MANDATORY DOWNWIND NO-SPRAY ZONES BEFORE APPLYING. Restraints DO NOT use if rainfall or irrigation is to occur within 2 hours of application. DO NOT apply to frost-affected weeds or if frosts are imminent. DO NOT apply without adjuvant/crop oil. HOW TO APPLY PRECEPT Time of day Precept performs best in warmer temperatures with good light intensity. It should be applied during the day and at least 1 hour before sunset especially if low overnight temperatures are expected. Adjuvant When applying Precept alone (without a tank-mix partner), one of the following spray grade liquid ammonium sulphates or crop oils must be used: Rutec Assist (1. L/ha), Boost (1. L/ha), Liase (1.2 L/ha), Hasten (1% v/v), Uptake (.5% v/v) or Supercharge (.75% v/v). Refer to the product label for full details. Ground-rig application Apply Precept with calibrated spray equipment to ensure thorough coverage is achieved. Use a standard boom sprayer fitted with by-pass or mechanical agitation. Spray a droplet size of MEDIUM spray quality under the ASAE S572 standard. THE 3-WAY PHOTO-X ADVANTAGE INNOVATION PERFORMANCE RELIABILITY Precept 3 EC contains two active ingredients: MCPA LVE and pyrasulfotole. Branded as Photo-X herbicide technology, pyrasulfotole provides innovative, distinctive and extremely robust 3-way activity on broadleaf weeds. Action One Cuts off the energy process. Action two Cuts off the vitamin process. Action three Cuts off the protective process.
3 RE-CROPPING INTERVALS These are the label recommendations for minimum re-cropping intervals. Re-cropping intervals may need to be extended in the event of low rainfall (less than 25 mm for winter crops; less than 3 mm for summer crops) or very patchy rainfall. Application to soils with a ph greater than 8.4 (soil in water) has not been tested and is not recommended. Re-cropping intervals may be reduced on acid soils (ph <7). Winter-sown crops Re-cropping interval Precept 3 EC rate applied Wheat, barley, oats, triticale 3 weeks up to 1. 4 MANAGING RESISTANCE AND CONTROLLING HARD-TO-KILL WILD RADISH Wild radish tolerance to various herbicide groups is increasing, with many populations showing multiple resistance to combinations of Group B (ALS inhibitors), Group F (PDS inhibitors), Group I (synthetic auxins) and Group C (PS II inhibitors) herbicides. Taking a proactive approach to resistance and following a few simple steps now, can assist in maintaining the viability of existing herbicide options for the future. 1. Target multiple germinations Spray wild radish early and plan for a follow-up application with a different herbicide group. use bromoxynil-based products first and plan to follow up later with a Group I herbicide (e.g. Precept). 2. Select appropriate rates Inspect the paddock and determine the representative weed size or potential problem areas. Select the herbicide rate targeted to the largest weed in the paddock (e.g. if you have 6-leaf wild radish, use a rate to target that size plant). 3. Time applications strategically Apply broadleaf and grass herbicides separately. follow the label guidelines and apply in the timing windows specified. If you are unable to apply the product within the timeframe recommended by your agronomist, re-consult your agronomist, as you may need to increase the rate. 4. Ensure good coverage use increased water rates (7 15 L/ha). Spray early to ensure maximum coverage. Mantain a ground speed slow enough to ensure maximum coverage is acheived. reduce stubble height in high-yielding crops to avoid issues the following year. 5. Know your resistance status If you don t know the current resistance status of the paddock and you re concerned, get it tested.
5 EFFICACY ON RESISTANT WILD RADISH in 1 different resistant populations While it would be unrealistic to expect under all conditions, these outstanding s confirm that Precept is an extremely effective solution for control of current resistant populations. 8 THE KEY BENEFITS OF Precept 3 EC Very robust 3-way control of a wide range of broadleaf weeds Improved control of traditional problem weeds in many cropping areas Very effective as part of a two-spray strategy targeting multiple germinations The capacity to control more mature weeds and higher weed densities An innovative mode of action to counter existing resistance and help prevent its increase Control of Group B, C and F resistant wild radish Resistance management H I With its two active ingredients, Precept is both a Group H and a Group I herbicide. Pyrasulfotole is proving to be an effective tool in the management of broadleaf weed populations that are resistant to various modes of action, including the ALS inhibitors (e.g. sulfonylureas, like triasulfuron, chlorsulfuron & metsulfuron), PDS inhibitors (e.g. diflufenican & picolinafen), synthetic auxins (e.g. MCPA, 2,4-D) and PS II inhibitors (e.g. metribuzin). When used in conjunction with Integrated Weed Management (IWM) practices, pyrasulfotole (e.g. Precept) will continue to help control herbicide-resistant broadleaf weeds.
