2 Hazardous Polymerization: Under certain conditions, kaolin may catalyze the chain polymerization of styrene monomer, producing an exothermic reaction that may generate large amounts of heat and cause combustion. Kaolin should NOT be added directly to styrene monomer. NOR should styrene monomer be directly added to kaolin. This reaction does not occur when kaolin is added to polyester resin containing free styrene. If the formulation requires additional styrene monomer to be added at the end of the mix cycle, kaolin MUST be fully dispersed in the polyester resin BEFORE the incorporation of the styrene monomer. Chronic exposure to kaolin dust at concentrations exceeding occupational exposure limits may cause pneumoconiosis (lung disease). Acute Exposure: Exposure to a large concentration of air-born dust of this material may cause mechanical irritation of the mucous membranes and respiratory tract. Chronic Exposure: Repeated or prolonged inhalation of air-born dust of this material may cause scarring of the lungs (pulmonary fibrosis), with shortness of breath, chronic cough, and respiratory assisted heart failure.

3 First Aid: Remove from exposure area to fresh air. If breathing has stopped, perform artificial respiration and get medical attention immediately. Keep person warm and at rest. Treat symptomatically and supportively. Skin Contact: Acute Exposure: Direct contact may cause dryness, or may cause mild irritation if an allergic predisposition exists. Chronic Exposure: Prolonged contact may cause dryness of the skin, or may cause mild irritation if an allergic predisposition exists. First Aid: Flush with water. Apply common skin moisturizers to relieve dryness. If irritation or redness develops, seek medical attention. Eye Contact: Acute Exposure: Direct contact with dust may cause mechanical irritation of the eyes. Chronic Exposure: Prolonged exposure may cause conjunctivae inflammation. First Aid: Immediately flush the contaminated eye(s) with lukewarm, gently flowing water for 15 minutes holding the eyelid(s) open. If irritation persists, obtain medical advice immediately. Ingestion: Never give anything by mouth if victim is rapidly losing consciousness or is unconscious or convulsing. Rinse mouth thoroughly with water. Do not induce vomiting. If large quantities are ingested, obtain medical advice immediately. SECTION 5 PHYSICAL DATA Specific Gravity: 2 to 3 Solubility (in water): Insoluble ph: 6 to 8 SECTION 6 STORAGE, DISPOSAL & ENVIRONMENTAL Storage: Preserve in sealed containers to prevent dispersion of dust in air. Waste Disposal: Dry material can be landfiled. Observe all federal, state, and local regulations. Responsibility to proper waste disposals with the owner of the waste. Conditions to Avoid: Prevent dispersion of dust in air.

4 Accident Spills: For large spills, shovel or sweep up (while keeping dispersion of dust in air to a minimum) and place into suitable sealed containers for reclamation of later disposal. Residue should be cleaned up using high-efficiency particulate filter vacuum. The use of water wash-down is not recommended. Wet material can cause a surface for working to become slippery. Ventilation: Provide local exhausts or process enclosure ventilation to meet published exposure limits. Respirator: Dust filter mask is recommended as minimal protection The following maximum-use concentrations and respirators are recommendations by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service. 10mg/m³...Any dust and mist respirator 20mg/m³...Any dust and mist respirator except single-use and quarter-mask respirators. Gloves: Protective gloves are not required, but may be worn to prevent skin dryness or irritation due to skin allergy. Eye Protection: Employees should wear dust-resistant safety goggles to prevent eye contact with high concentrations of air born dust of this substance. Where there is a possibility that an employee s eyes may be exposed to bulk quantities or high concentrations of air-born dust of this substance, the employer should provide an eye wash fountain within the immediate work area for emergency use. SECTION 7 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This product is listed on the U.S. EPA TSCA inventory as a natural occurring substance. It is not hazardous to the environment. Not regulated as a hazardous material by the Department of Transportation.
