6 Molecular Biology Molecular biological procedures provide fast and accurate results. They are aimed at the detection of certain DNA regions (PCR) or proteins (ELISA). SYNLAB Analytics & Services molecular biological laboratories use these methods to examine samples for the following parameters: Allergens (labelling requirements in accordance with the EU Food Information Regulation, No. 1169/2011) Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) (according to European Regulations VO (EG) No. 1829/2003, VO (EG) No. 1830/2003) Species and plant species identification (authenticity check, product inspection, Halal) using state-of-the-art Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology and PCR Rapid analysis of pathogenic bacteria (Salmonella, EHEC and Listeria) Multi Locus Sequence Typing (MLST) as a means of monitoring/tracing bacterial/fungal strains Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) as a tool for characterising various food microbiomes Water Analysis SYNLAB Analytics & Services is able to offer an extensive range of physical-chemical and microbiological tests on water samples which are tailored to the customers requirements. Our laboratories examine input and output water from waterworks, distribution networks and customers taps in accordance with the latest drinking water regulations. SYNLAB laboratories are recognised as approved suppliers for Legionella testing services (EU) 2015/178. Common parameters to safeguard tap water used in food production are E.coli, coliform bacteria and colony count. SYNLAB offers analyses in compliance with the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive 91/271/EEG. Common parameters are total phosphorus, total nitrogen, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand and total suspended solids. For cooling towers, tap water and other warm water systems, SYNLAB offers sampling and analysis of Legionella. 6

7 Feed Analysis Veterinary Diagnostics SYNLAB Analytics & Services offers producers of animal feed and feed additives a wide range of analysis. This enables producers to determine how to feed their livestock according to their performance needs and nutritional requirements by determining the following parameters: SYNLAB Analytics & Services specialises in veterinary diagnostic issues at the primary producer level. For poultry (chicken, turkey), we determine the antibody status to monitor the vaccine or infection using the markers for APV, AE, EDS, IBD, IBV, ILT, MS, MG and NDV. Analysis of the raw material components and calorific value Vitamins and minerals Amino acid Assessment Residues and Contaminants In order to evaluate general barn hygiene, swabs or dipslides are used to microbiologically evaluate the area. We can provide information regarding, for example, Salmonella in the barn. For Pig Farmers, we examine meat juice samples for Salmonella contamination. Microbiology Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) Approval for several monitoring programs: QS feed monitoring GMP + PASTUS + 7

10 Hygiene Audits Your hygiene audit includes an inspection of the relevant buildings, facilities and QM relevant documentation for example: temperature records, pest control measures, cleaning and disinfection plans, maintenance of reference samples. During the audit, personal hygiene can be discussed. We produce a detailed report on each audit. This report includes an assessment of the current situation in terms of legal requirements and relevant standards. We provide recommendations for the further development of your Quality Management System and for measures to promote occupational hygiene. Launch and development of HACCP systems We offer you comprehensive support in the creation and further development of controls and Quality Management Systems. After a detailed analysis of your local operations, we will prepare the required documentation. For example: Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) Supplier management Allergen management Foreign body management Crisis management Risk analysis In addition, we support you in the implementation of measures for personnel, production and product hygiene. In order to reduce your costs while at the same time increasing your safety, we check and optimise your sampling plan on request. Training People who regularly handle food must be trained at least once a year in hygiene. That is why we are pleased to offer engaging and practical seminars on the infection protection laws as well as on personnel and production hygiene at your location. We offer further training and workshops for example on food labelling, allergens, microbiology and HACCP. We strive to constantly expand our training program. 10

11 Sampling We offer qualified Samplers to our customers. By commissioning a qualified Sampler, you will receive everything from sampling to results from a single source. This minimises the risk of possible sources of error during sampling (technically correct sampling, sterile sampling bottles, chain of custody documentation) and transport (product-specific cooling). We provide qualified sampling service including this selection: water quality analysis especially Legionella monitoring (accredited) hygiene samples (e. g. swabs, airborne germ measurement) product samples (food, animal feed, crop) Country-specific monitoring programs (e. g. QS, quality scheme for food) Sample Collection SYNLAB Analytics & Services provide a sample collection service. Your local Sales Team will be happy to organise the sample transport either by SYNLAB internal or external shipping service. Depending on your product requirements, your samples are transported refrigerated, delivered same day and registered in the laboratory. By using our shipping service SYNLAB can provide an express service for fast, or even same-day, results for a range of parameters. 11
