This past year, ICONICS was recognized for its innovation by having been awarded the prestigious 2012 Sustainability Partner of the Year Award from Microsoft. US Patent # 8,219,669, entitled Operational Process Control Data Server, generally relates to configuring operational process control servers in a manner that conforms to the OPC Unified Architecture standards. This proprietary technology is used in GENESIS64 (ICONICS industryleading HMI/ SCADA platform), MobileHMI and AnalytiX products. 4 GENESIS64 Features and Benefits On August 9, 2012, ICONICS announced the release of GENESIS64 v10.7! Several new core product technologies were added to this new release. In particular, Commanding, Multitouch, AssetWorX, FDDWorX and PortalWorX-SL were added to the 10.7 version. GENESIS64 offers a whole new way to organize any HMI or SCADA project, by using new intelligent Asset Technology that will dramatically reduce the engineering effort required to configure and operate any project. Hundreds of new features were added to v10.7 such as: GraphWorX 64 now supports several.net controls, including: Energy AnalytiX Viewer FDDWorX Viewer ISA95 AssetWorX Navigator GridWorX Server can now be displayed in the TrendWorX 64 Viewer Flexible Installations where a non-default location and automatic login can be specified Redundancy has expanded to support may types of applications. Commanding is a core technology that greatly reduces engineering with hundreds of time saving commands. While most SCADA systems rely on advanced scripting to achieve interoperability between distinct modules, ICONICS has the Platform Services act as a central hub for communication. Designed for real-time dashboard use in any popular Web-browser, PortalWorX-SL is a role-based dashboard that allows users to customize their views in real time. These new additions to GENESIS64, along with hundreds of product enhancements, herald ICONICS HMI/SCADA technology focused on providing featurerich, high-quality software for use in any application at any time, from anywhere. New Multitouch Benefits in v10.7 Eliminating the need for a mouse or stylus, the new Multitouch features allow users to control a display with their fingers. New features include the ability to select items, tap and hold to simulate a right click, panning in 3D, zooming by pulling fingers apart, and two finger double-clicks. A particularly important new feature is Secure Mode, where a user can lock a display to only allow changes when they are holding down the safe button simultaneously. 5 GENESIS64 3D Visualization & VEC Technology VEC Technology in Greenville, Pennsylvania, provides custom composite manufacturing. Its parent company, J&D Acquisitions, also owns a manufacturer of recreation boat hulls that utilizes the VEC process, a patented, state-of-the-art, computer-controlled manufacturing process that guarantees that every part is made to the most exacting standards of fit and finish. VEC Technology wanted a single source HMI/SCADA program that would require minimal custom scripting and programming. They also required a solution that would run optimally on 64-bit operating systems, as well as easily handle 3D visualization to fully utilize existing CAD data of various equipment. Additionally, they wanted the software to read and write natively to Microsoft SQL Server and to support global aliasing, in order to minimize development time and costs. For this, VEC Technology selected ICONICS GENESIS64 HMI/SCADA software, in addition to BridgeWorX (real-time workflow for data bridging), ReportWorX (enterprise reporting, charting and analysis), OPC Server (supporting both OPC-UA and OPC-DA connectivity), and WebHMI (Web-based, real-time visualization). One of the challenges facing many sustainability initiatives is in knowing where to focus your attention. Typical facilities management solutions can tell you that there is something wrong with the building, but not necessarily where or what to do about it. 7 GENESIS64 Maintains Rimske Terme Resort Rimske Terme is a luxurious Business, Wellness and Spa Resort, located in the town of Rimske Toplice, Slovenia. The location s thermal pools have attracted visitors for centuries, with evidence of visits during the Roman Empire. The Rimske Terme resort, known for its spa facilities based around the area s historic, healing thermal baths, is comprised of several buildings with pools, hotels, a health center, and a conference center. Rimske Terme Resort at Night Wanting to keep this historic site in the best possible condition, the Rimske Terme resort started on a project to update their Building Management System (BMS). Working with system integrator, Robotina d.o.o., ICONICS GENESIS64 HMI/SCADA software was selected for the project due to its ease of configuration and adaptability. As part of its planned BMS installation, Rimske Terme wanted to integrate a number of existing automated systems, including hotel room temperature regulation, room emergency/security functions, air conditioning, lighting, and diesel fuel use. Rimske Terme has connected GENESIS64 to programmable controllers through an OPC Server. Systems and subsystems are mutually connected or integrated. The complete system consists of more than 200 programmable controllers with CAN bus connected expansion I/O modules. The controllers communicate between themselves and with the monitoring system over an Ethernet network. Resort Overview Screen The hotel room automation required a BMS that could adapt to a few differences in each location. For instance, the heating/cooling in Hotel Sofijin Dvor and Hotel Zdraviliški Dvor is based on air diffusers, while in Hotel Rimski Dvor, it is accomplished via fan coils. These changes are easily taken into account as the BMS is able to help set desired parameters, then monitor and regulate them. Additionally, each room s security/alarm (SOS) functions are also handled via the BMS. The BMS provides continually updated, real-time statuses for each system, allowing the system administrator to adjust parameters for optimal regulation. Since installing GENESIS64, Rimske Terme has remarked about its simplicity of use and the benefits of remote control. As a result, the resort has expanded its management stations, including one in hotel reception and another mobile station for maintenance purposes, all connected for remote operation and password-protected for secure access. 8 MobileHMI and the New Windows Phone With built-in compatibility with new Windows Phone 8 devices, MobileHMI has been upgraded to utilize the newest Windows Phone capabilities developed as part of the 7.5 Mango release. While some updates for the MobileHMI application are related to performance improvements and further integration with the devices to allow for better usability, there are a number of new features that will provide multiple immediate benefits to users. With a new Priority Display Cache, users can now have favorite displays automatically cached on the device to speed up load times. MobileHMI also now allows users to pin displays, assets and alarm views to the device home screen, allowing for one-touch access to critical information. Configuration updates will benefit developers by allowing for easier access to phone-optimized controls, a new symbol library with Windows 8 UI-styled icons and an updated Pivot Control to allow for better editing functionality. 9 Manx Electricity Authority and MobileHMI Manx Electricity Authority (MEA) in the United Kingdom is responsible for the generation of electricity, controlled from multiple facilities across the Isle of Man. MEA is also responsible for ensuring full commercial potential of the UK-IOM (Isle of Man) interconnector subsea power cable. Over time, MEA found themselves with a proliferation of different SCADA systems, each operating uniquely, and they decided it was time to look for an integrated enterprise-level SCADA solution to streamline their efforts and expenses. ICONICS software provided a consistent and uniform interface that could be spread across three monitors allowing a single operator, on one control workstation, to manage and control the entire island s generating capacity. Implementation began with ICONICS GENESIS32 software to host a pair of redundant servers at each of the key sites. ICONICS GenBroker technology allowed MEA to set up a remote connection to the Isle of Man to test the visualization during project implementation, and ICONICS DataWorX 32 provided an intermediate layer for the SCADA. Currently, the solution contains 75,000 data points across the island and is capable of scaling beyond this in the future. Using ICONICS software, MEA synchronized their SCADA applications to function under one system and now remotely monitors their facilities, never losing touch with real-time data and alarms. The capability for maintenance and operations personnel to remotely monitor equipment statuses and be alerted about alarms is already improving productivity. MobileHMI is a Windows Phone 7 application that pairs with ICONICS GraphWorX 64 to monitor plant outputs and alarms. Once alarms are set, based on selected data points, MobileHMI can send push notifications to the operator s Windows Phone in the form of a toast notification or text message with details on particular asset levels, alarm severity, and other vital information. 10 Expansions in Hyper Historian v10.7 ICONICS Hyper Historian is an extremely high performance, robust plant process historian. It continues to expand both in market share and features. Hyper Historian, during just this last year, has been selected by customers in many industries including power utilities, oil and gas, water utilities and enterprise building automation and energy management and in many cases, is replacing the systems of more traditional competitors in this space. Hyper Historian, with release 10.7, continues to expand both features and flexibility. With 10.7, native dataset collection is supported. This allows customers to fully utilize the capability of their intelligent field controllers (such as PLCs or BACnet-compliant Building Automation controllers) to collect high resolution trend data sets local to the device. By simply defining a dataset type tag, the full datasets are now periodically uploaded and merged into long-term historical data. A major analysis feature of the product is the powerful library of performance calculations that provide the ability for userconfigured expressions to easily specify complex data derivations. Release 10.7 makes performance calculations fully redundant, as are all logging and collection functions. AnalytiX Used in Cork County Water Cork County covers an area of 2,880 square miles, making it the largest county in Ireland. Cork County Council treats and supplies water to approximately 40,000 non-domestic customers and 100,000 homes across the county. The average daily volume of water produced in Cork County is estimated to be well over 150,000 yd 3 /day with the total length of water in the Public Water Supply Schemes estimated to be 3,500 miles long. The number of yards from which to retrieve that data continues to increase. With such a vast supply network, the Council looked to Cully Automation Ltd., who, in conjunction with ICONICS, had already been used to install a number of Plant SCADA systems to control and monitor local stations. ICONICS products enabled the system to send data on a daily basis from each remote meter via a GPRS message, to be read in the Historian and used for calculating the water usage for each district metered area (DMA). By using a simple, intuitive point-andclick interface, an asset tree of DMAs was able to be quickly created and calculations added. By leveraging the latest Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 technologies, including StreamInsight, which allows for Complex Event Processing, the collected data was then taken from the Hyper Historian and integrated together to produce an up-to-date and accurate DMA water usage figure. 11 Productivity Analytics Informs Manufacturing Intelligence driven by KPIs like Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) is continually heralded as the most important number in process applications. With the real-time visibility of Availability, Performance, Quality, Cycle-time and Throughput coupled with information relating to enterprise data, any business can pinpoint where time and money are being wasted. With the possibility of powerful report integration and visualization from ICONICS, Productivity Analytics is a product built to optimize operations and inform decision makers at all levels, resulting in a competitive advantage and operational efficiency. PGT Manufacturing: A Study in Productivity PGT pioneered the U.S. impact-resistant glass window and door industry and today is the nation s leading manufacturer and supplier, and is sold through a network of over 1,300 independent distributors. Founded in 1980 in North Venice, Florida, PGT employs over 1,000 people. Due to its success, the company projected that demand would soon exceed production capacity and consequently would greatly constrain revenue growth. In anticipation of this, PGT began searching for an appropriate software solution. After comparing various products, PGT ultimately decided on ICONICS, due to it having all the needed tools and, most importantly, for its ease of configuration. The ICONICS Productivity Analytics visual OEE/KPI/analysis software, and GENESIS32 HMI/SCADA software suite were chosen to monitor their manufacturing intelligence system and to integrate all their automation equipment. ICONICS Productivity Analytics software was applied to the 12 most critical production assets for downtime and cycle PGT Equipment Monitoring time analysis. ICONICS software s drilldown and correlation capabilities were used to zero-in on sources of loss for OEE (Overall Operational Effectiveness), focusing on three factors: availability, quality and performance. Productivity Analytics also helped provide transparency of undiscovered losses in production capacity. Over the course of a year, improvements were integrated resulting in a significant increase in production using PGT s current assets. Recently, PGT commissioned the expansion of the Productivity Analytics implementation from the initial 12 assets to approximately 80 assets over the next three years.
