Site name: City/Town: Page 1 of 5 Prepared for: Attention: Specification number: Equus Rep: Dated: PREAMBLE: This specification is for the application of DUO LANDSCAPE waterproofing membrane system for roof gardens and / or similar situations including planter boxes and podium levels, however predominantly where soil overlays and plants and / or grass is to flourish. This specification will also incorporate an insulation component which will be sandwiched between the substrate and membrane system The roof system should be assembled as a complete entity from bottom to the top to be inclusive of Insulation, membrane, membrane protection/ drainage of the system and the roof with the soil plant mix being the landscaper s sphere of expertise (Greenroofs Ltd, Will Thorne ). Equus Industries are providing warm roofing system with Deboer drainage mat incorporated within the whole system. With regards to soil and planting mix Equus Industries recommend that the Architect deal with Greenroofs Ltd, Will Thorne as the professionals to specify the systems in this regard (see section 5.0 of this specification) given the site location, roof slope and all other local parameters. KINGSPAN Insulation is a high performance rigid polyurethane material. Kingspan Insulation applied as a warm roof concept allows for continuous uninterrupted thermal layer across the whole roof. This means there are no cold bridges at intersecting walls and the dew point is where it should be, outside the building envelope. Thermal R value requirements are dictated by the designer and the locally prevailing conditions. Insulation thickness is determined by the overall roof concept in conjunction with the designer and Equus industries DUO LANDSCAPE is designed as a two-layer system (inclusive of a basesheet of APP 2.5 T/F) for waterproofing of roof gardens, planter boxes and landscape areas. In this case the Basesheet is mechanically fixed to the substrate through the basesheet. The capsheet is then fully torched to the basesheet. The membrane system is specially formulated to be root resistant. It is recommended to be used in combination with a drainage system. The Landscape Capsheet is a flexible waterproof membrane. The upper coating consists of a mixture of penetrating bitumen, improved with Amorphous Poly Alpha Oilefins (APAO). The backing surface consists of a mixture of penetrating bitumen, improved with Styrene-Butadiene- Styrene (SBS) the bitumen coating is mixed with root- resistant products. The membrane is reinforced with a thermally bound layer of non-woven polyester of min.175 gms / sqm, reinforced with a glass fibre grill of 8 gm / sqm. The surface dressing is of either talc or sand pressed mechanically into the surface. The underside is finished with a polyethylene foil. The Bitumen is mixed with roof resistant products. The Duo Landscape membrane is tested on an on going basis under the German D.I.N standard test method 4062 to re-affirm its qualities as a membrane suitable for use under plants and soils.

2 Page 2 of 5 Ref: 2.0 SCOPE: Refer to drawings. 3.0 SURFACE PREPARATION Unless expressly agreed otherwise at time of contract pricing, all work in this section shall be the responsibility of the main contractor, whether carried out by his own staff, other sub-trades or the membrane sub-contractor. Substrate preparation 3.1 Concrete:.1 Concrete structures must be specifically engineered to meet the requirements of the New Zealand Building Code. Attention to the saturated weight of the plant material and any other local parameters is required when designing the structure for weight loading. When applying to existing substrates and structures, they must be thoroughly inspected to ensure that they will not affect the performance of the membrane when applied. Curing times vary dependant on location, mixes and climate conditions. After the slab has been poured allow sufficient drying time, generally between days. To verify concrete has sufficiently dried, a measurement can be taken using a hygrometer. A maximum relative humidity of 75% is required, measured at the time of membrane application. It is not recommended that curing compounds are used. When they are, ensure that all traces of the compound are gone or removed..2 Shall be finished to NZS3114:1987 U3, with a light trowel texture..3 Shall have all ridges and protrusions stoned flush..4 Depressions shall be flushed with a Thermexx or Chevacryl Admix-gauged patch mix and allowed to cure at least 48 hours before overcoating..5 Seams should be constructed parallel with the fall, minimising ponding and flow restriction when ever possible. Roofs shall be laid to a minimum fall of 1:40 min (1.5 ) in accordance with E2/AS1 Decks shall be laid to a minimum fall of 1:60 min (1.0 ) in accordance with E2/AS1 Gutters shall be laid to a minimum fall of 1:100 min (0.57 ) in accordance with E2/AS1.6 Shall have leading edges chamfered to 5mm radius and min. 20x20 cement mortar or H3.2 treated timber fillets installed in internal corners..7 Shall be water blast-cleaned to remove all detritus, and allowed to dry.

3 Page 3 of 5 Ref: EQS.8 Outlet Types: Roof and deck outlets shall be installed as per clause of E2 External Moisture of the New Zealand Building Code. Outlets shall be sized in accordance with E1 Surface Water of the New Zealand Building Code..9 When concrete and plywood is used as the substrate a specifically designed expansion joint is required to be installed between the dissimilar materials. Note Where soil depths are built above the outlet suitable provision for a riser and inspection cover shall be mandatory to allow for periodic maintenance and/or debris clearance from time to time. 4.0 VAPOR BARRIER, INSULATION and MEMBRANE APPLICATION: NOTE 4.1 AND 4.2 ONLY REQUIRED IF CONDENSATION RISK IS FOUND CONDENSATION RISK TO BE CONFIRMED 1. Bitumen Primer a. To the dried and prepared surface apply one (1) full coat of DeBoer Duo Bitumen Primer by brush/roller at a spreading rate of 5 sqm/litre. Allow to dry for 4-24 hours depending upon prevailing conditions. 2. Basesheet/ Vapor Barrier a. On the flat roof areas use Deboer 2.5mm APP basesheet. Decide the most suitable direction to follow then unroll and align the first roll, cut to length as required, re-roll both ends to the middle then torch evenly overall to both basesheet and primer as this is unrolled. Ensure even heat application. Repeat in sequence with all rolls, maintaining laps of approximately 75-80mm. This lap automatically closes during the torching process. Offset end laps in adjacent runs if possible. Ensure that the App 2.5mm basesheet is extended up the roof/ wall junction by 75mm b. Use SBS 2.5mm basesheet from the roof/ wall junction extending up to and over the parapet wall. Ensure the SBS basesheet is taken onto the roof extending over the APP basesheet by 75mm. 3. Insulation board Placement: a. Install the flat (THICKNESS TO BE CONFIRMED) Kingspan Insulation board as per detailed instructions as provided by Kingspan Insulation study (see separate attached). Use clause b and c only if required, refer Kingspan study b. Once the second layer is ready to apply, set out the sheet and ensure it is correctly sized and numbered (as per Kingspan drawing) for the section being completed. Complete all other layers in a similar fashion

4 c. Apply a predetermined amount of foam adhesive and ensure that the next layer of Insulation is fitted at the same time. d. Allow to apply a 50mm minimum wide aluminium foil tape (or similar) of the last layer of insulation centred over the Insulation sheet joint. 4. Primer: for detailing (only required where bare concrete still exists after Vapor barrier installation) i. To the dried and prepared surface apply one (1) full coat of DeBoer Duo Bitumen Primer by brush/roller at a spreading rate of 5 sqm/litre. Allow to dry for 4-24 hours depending upon prevailing conditions. ii. Decide the most suitable direction to follow then unroll and align the first roll, cut to length as required, re-roll both ends to the middle then torch evenly overall to both basesheet and primer as this is unrolled. iii. Ensure even heat application. Repeat in sequence with all rolls, maintaining laps of approximately 75-80mm. This lap automatically closes during the torching process. Offset end laps in adjacent runs if possible. 4.0 MEMBRANE APPLICATION 4.1 Membrane Application 1.0 Mechanically Fastened Basesheet i. APP 2.5 basesheet is supplied in 10 -m long rolls, by 1-m wide and should be laid to ensure maximum yield of each roll. ii. Place a roll of basesheet in the best position given the design of the roof structure. Position the sheet in the most suitable location to ensure a minimum amount of joints occurs. Ensure the sheet is straight and flat. iii. Apply fixings at spaces indicated by pre-drilling a hole, inserting the fixing and fastening it by knocking the nail with a rubber coated hammer. DO NOT OVERDRIVE THE FIXING BELOW THE MEMBRANE iv. Position the next roll and torch the laps in the normal manner. v. Fixing spacing shall be indicated on a plan and will form part of the Q.A procedures to be followed as part of the warranty process 4.2 Capsheet Application Refer to Deboer Drawing Roof plan fastening layout Duo Landscape capsheet shall be applied to all nominated roof areas working in accordance with the Manufacturers instructions and the following notes. Landscape capsheet membrane is supplied in 8-m lengths by one-metre width and should be laid parallel with the basesheet but offset by approx. half the width of the sheet to ensure laps in both layers do not coincide.

5 Page 4 of 5 Ref: EQS General application notes Ensure even heat is applied overall to the basesheet and the substrate. Periodically test membrane for bonding by pulling back to check for stringing and by trying to lift at laps and corners. All side laps shall be 75 to 80 mm wide, and all end laps shall be 100 mm wide. Laying shall generally commence at low sides of roof areas, and proceed to high sides so that laps are sealed running with water flow. All laps shall be trowelled tight on the down hill (open) edge of the lap using a margin trowel and torching. All requisite double thickness detailing shall be carried out prior to main membrane application, with De Boer 2.5 APP basesheet. 4.3 Detailing This shall include all outlets, pipe penetrations, gutter stop ends, parapet upstands and anything above or below the roof surface. This is carried out before, during or in some cases after laying of the membrane depending upon the detail type. All detailing shall be done in accordance with recommended procedures. Where special detailing accessories and chase sealants are required, confirm with Equus. 4.4 Drainage Cell placement and gravel margin recommendations Duo Drain placement Drainage layer shall be Deboer Duo Drain 10mm thick geo textile covered, polypropylene horizontal drainage mat applied overall. Overlap each sheet with the 100mm overlap mat. The surface is to be clean and free from all debris before proceeding. Undertake a thorough site check Unroll the layer directly to the surface to be covered and cut to size. Around roof penetrations and perimeters the drainage layer is installed horizontally, not dressed up. Cut the drainage mat tight and snug around penetrations etc. Immediately load the area with either temporary ballast or soil to avoid wind uplift of the laid Duo Drain Gravel Margin placement A gravel margin in and around all gutters, outlets, Skylights, roof edges etc is to be placed a minimum 300mm wide. This shall consist of a gravel catcher or L profile at the soil/ gravel margin, filter fabric and gravel/ river stones (or similar). The gravel margin is to be a minimum of 50mm thick Place a gravel catcher/ stop (or L profile) at the soil/ Gravel junction. This should not be fixed to the membrane and shall be sufficiently sized and weighted for the project taking into account the depth of soil, surface drainage requirements etc. The gravel catcher/ stop can be made from a number of materials depending upon design and landscape choice.

6 Page 5 of 5 Ref Place Bidim Geotextile A14 filter fabric, (a non woven, needle punched, continuous filament, polyester geotextile approximately 1 1.5mm thick) directly onto the membrane. Ensure the fabric covers the full area and is taken right up to any edges. Any overlaps shall be a minimum 100mm wide. Over this fill the margin with a suitable sized gravel material of sufficient size that will not clog with fines as a result of crushing (scoria for example would not be considered acceptable), but will allow for the free flow of extraneous water at the gutter/ outlet margin. The use of a gravel margin is to prevent plant material from clogging these areas and as a fire risk management tool. Refer to specific details or Equus green roof std details 5.0 SOIL AND LANDSCAPING: 5.1 Soil and Planting It is our understanding that roof is to be covered by a green roof. Generally this will consist a specified soil depth + plantings. Plantings can be a variety of native grasses and or exotics depending upon the landscaping specification. The specific soil mix shall be as directed by Greenroofs Ltd. Contact Greenroofs Ltd, Will Thorne for landscaping soil mixes and planting varieties 6.0 MAINTENANCE AND WARRANTY 6.1 Maintenance: As the finished membrane system is buried: normal maintenance is not possible and equally should not be necessary. However if major alteration or reconstruction of the overlay materials is required, the membrane applicator that carried out the installation should be notified so he can attend on site to ensure that the membrane integrity is maintained during and on completion of such works. Plant Maintenance: Allowance by the Client for contracted Maintenance by the Landscaper shall be required to ensure long term viability of the applied system. Maintenance will depend upon a number of factors to be detailed at time of specification.

7 6.2 Deboer Duo waterproofing membrane Warranty: The DUO LANDSCAPE two-layer system described in this specification will be warranted as to membrane integrity and to be waterproof for a period of up to twenty (20) years providing that: An approved EQUUS DUO Applicator carries out all work. All work is carried out in accordance with this specification, or any amendments or Additions thereto made by the Manufacturer or his representative. The warranty period shall be determined for any contract in consultation with the Manufacturer or his representative. The warranty is provided to the client by the Membrane Applicator carrying out the work and is backed by the Manufacturer as to fitness for the purpose of the materials supplied for the contract. 6.3 Greenroofs Warranty The warranty for the soil and planting shall be at the discretion of Greenroofs ltd and shall be determined in conjunction with the designer and client taking into account the proposed project and site parameters and limitations. Any warranty will be subject to a maintenance regime as part of the warranty process. The warranty is provided by Greenroofs Ltd to the client directly. -ooooooo-
