3 Tikkurila Floor Coating Systems Tikkurila s flooring portfolio offers a wide range of products suitable for everything from light duty cosmetics applications to that of specialist self-leveling and trowelled screeds for the most hardwearing floor and steel decking requirements. In addition to providing High Performance Industrial Coatings, we also offer a free technical service to assist in site surveys and prepare bespoke specifications for each project. Dust Binding Varnishes & Sealers Ensi Urethane Oil For protection and dust-binding of concrete surfaces. Colour: clear Temafloor 220W A two-component, solvent free epoxy varnish. Suitable for dust binding and for priming of damp concrete surfaces. Temafloor 400 A two-component, solvent-free epoxy varnish. Used as a binder for Temafloor 4000 grinding screed and epoxy concrete. Waterborne Paints & Varnishes Fontedur FL Matt. A two-component, full-matt water-borne polyurethane top varnish. Suitable to be used a top varnish for Temafloor epoxy and polyurethane floors Fontecoat FL100 A two component, water borne epoxy paint. Suitable for concrete floors and walls in industry, store and cellar spaces. 6 PRODUCT DATA SHEET (2) Ensi APPLICATION DETAILS Application conditions Preparation The relative humidity of the concrete should not exceed 97 %. The temperature of the ambient air, surface or coating should not fall below + 5 ºC during application or drying. Relative humidity of air should not exceed 80 %. New concrete: Remove laitance by power grinding or hydrochloric acid etching. Choose the method best suited for the premises. After cleaning remove dust carefully with a vacuum cleaner. Hydrochloric acid etching is carried out with diluted hydrochloric acid (1 part concentrated hydrochloric acid, 4 parts water). Rinse with plenty of water. Dry the floor. Priming Treatment EU VOC 2004/ 42/EC-limit value Old concrete: Remove all grease, oil, chemicals and other impurities by MAALIPESU detergent. Clean out pot-holes removing all loose friable material. Open cracks with e.g. an abrasive tool. Remove loose material and dust. Prime using % thinned ENSI urethane oil. Pour ENSI onto the floor and apply evenly. Application by brush or roller. The second treatment can be carried out after hours after priming if necessary. Note! Apply ENSI thinly so that after drying it has completely absorbed into the concrete. 7 PRODUCT DATA SHEET (3) Temafloor 220W Primer DESCRIPTION PRODUCT FEATURES RECOMMENDED USES A two component solvent free epoxy varnish. For impregnating and priming of new and old concrete floors prior to laying Temafloor coatings and screeds. Suitable for dust binding and for priming of damp concrete (relative humidity of the concrete over 97 %) surfaces. Can also be used to accelerate the hardening of new concrete. Concrete floors. Relative humidity of air should not exceed 80 %. New concrete: Remove laitance by power grinding, vacuum grit blasting or hydrochloric acid etching. Choose the method best suited for the premises. After grinding remove dust carefully with a vacuum cleaner. Hydrochloric acid etching is carried out with diluted hydrochloric acid (1 part concentrated hydrochloric acid, 4 parts water). Rinse with plenty of water. Dry the floor. Old concrete: Remove all grease, oil, chemicals and other impurities by MAALIPESU detergent. Remove old peeling paint layer by grinding or vacuum grit blasting. Clean out pot-holes removing all loose friable material. Open cracks with e.g. an abrasive tool. Remove loose material and dust. Curing of the concrete by using TEMAFLOOR 220: As soon as it is possible to walk on the new concrete surface, apply the varnish. Remove the varnish and laitance by power grinding or grit blasting before final coating. Prime using % thinned Temafloor 220W Primer epoxy varnish. Pour the varnish onto the floor and apply as much as is needed to impregnate the concrete surface. If necessary, repeat priming after about 9 hours to get a non-porous surface. Patch pot-holes and cracks with a mixture of unthinned Temafloor 200W Primer epoxy varnish and dry, clean sand. Mixing ratio e.g. 1 part by volume of varnish mixture and 1-2 parts by volume of sand of grain size mm. If the topcoat will be applied as a thin layer, grind the patched areas before overcoating. Mix the correct proportions of base and hardener thoroughly (approx. 2 minutes) by using an industrial hand drill with a paddle. Cleaning of tools Thinner 1029 (or Thinner 1031). Used as a binder for Temafloor 4000 grinding screed and epoxy concrete. Suitable for dust binding and priming of new and old concrete floors under Temafloor coatings. Subsequent treatment can be carried out after 2 hours using "wet-on-wet" technique. Patch pot-holes and cracks with a mixture of unthinned Temafloor 400 epoxy varnish and dry, clean sand. Mixing ratio e.g. 1 part by volume of epoxy mixture and 1-2 parts by volume of sand of grain size mm. Overcoating should be done within hrs after priming. If the primed surface is not overcoated within 24 hrs, it should be abraded. Use unthinned Temafloor 400 varnish for the topcoat. Pour the varnish mixture onto the floor, spread with a rubber trowel and level with a roller. Mix the correct proportions of base and hardener thoroughly (approx. 2 minutes) by using a low speed hand drill with a paddle. The amount of mixture depends on the area to be coated and on the pot life of the mixture. Insufficient mixing or incorrect mixing ratio will result in uneven drying of the surface, weaken the properties of the coating and risk the success of the application. 17 Betolux Akva Floor Paint DESCRIPTION PRODUCT FEATURES Water-borne polyurethane-acrylate paint. Concrete and wooden floors and stairs in dry residential. Suitable also for renovation of floor surfaces previously painted with alkyd or epoxy paint, or treated with epoxy varnish. RECOMMENDED USES Concrete and wooden floors and stairs in dry residential, commercial and storage buildings exposed to light mechanical and chemical stress. Suitable also for renovation of floor surfaces previously painted with alkyd or epoxy paint, or treated with epoxy varnish. PREPARATION New unpainted surfaces: Concrete floors: Remove laitance with a grinding machine. Remove sanding dust. Wooden floors: Remove dirt, dust, grease and oil. Treat knots with Tikkurila Knotting Lacquer. Previously painted surfaces: Wash down previously painted surfaces with Maalipesu (Cleaning Agent) and rinse carefully with water. After drying: remove old, loose paint. Sand the surfaces carefully. 18 PAINTING Stir Betolux Akva well before use. Concrete floors: Prime new concrete floors with Betolux Akva Pohjuste (Primer) or once with Betolux Akva thinned 10% with water. Finish new and previously painted concrete floors with non-diluted Betolux Akva 2-3 times. Use shortpile roller or synthetic brush on small surfaces Wooden floors: Prime new wooden floors once with Betolux Akva thinned with 10% water. Finish new and previously painted floors 2-3 times with non-diluted Betolux Akva. Apply with a synthetic brush. NB The paint dries quickly, so plan the painting work ahead to avoid overlaps. Paint floor boards in longitudinal direction, only a few at a time. Any required changes must be made on dry paintwork. CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS EU VOC 2004/42/EC-limit value HEALTH AND SAFETY CLASSIFICATION ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND WASTE DISPOSAL TRANSPORT Clean tools with water or Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tool Cleaner). The painted surface reaches its ultimate abrasion and chemical resistance approx. 2 weeks from the surface treatment, during that time avoid cleanup. Clean the surface with a brush, a mop or a rag. Clean soiled surfaces with cleaning supplies using neutral (ph 6-8) detergent. (cat A/i) max.140 g/l (2010). The product is not classified as dangerous. A Material Safety Data Sheet is available on request. Empty cans should be recycled or disposed of in accordance with local regulations. Liquid waste should be destroyed according to the local regulations. For new and old concrete and asphalt floors exposed to mechanical and chemical stress. Concrete floors in industrial and storage facilities, repair shops; e.g. process or paper machine units and corridors. Withstands water, oils, greases, chemicals and dilute solutions of non-oxidizing acids, alkali and salt solutions. Resists only temporary splashes of oxidizing acids and bleaching chemicals. Withstands + 80 ºC dry heat and + 60 ºC in immersion. Does not resist abrupt changes of temperature. Good impact resistance. Self-levelling, to be applied with serrated or steel trowel. After grinding remove dust carefully with a vacuum cleaner. Hydrochloric acid etching is carried out with diluted hydrochloric acid (1 part concentrated hydrochloric acid, 4 parts water). Patch pot-holes and cracks with unthinned TEMAFLOOR 400 epoxy varnish and dry, clean sand. Mixing ratio e.g. 1 part by volume of epoxy mixture and 1-2 parts by volume of sand of grain size mm. Grind the patched areas before overcoating. Do not thin TEMAFLOOR PU polyurethane coating. Overcoating may be carried out not earlier than 16 hrs and not later than 24 hrs after priming and patching. If the primed surface is not overcoated within 24 hrs, it should be abraded. Pour the coating mixture onto the floor and spread it with a serrated steel trowel or an adjustable trowel. Control that the thickness of layer is correct by observing coating consumption and by measuring the film thickness. Recommended thickness of a layer is mm. Level the screed with a spiked roller approx min after application. Spiked roller helps removing air bubbles from the coating. Note! Add the remaining mixture to the next batch of the screed, do not scrape it out of the container onto the floor. Mix the correct proportions of base and hardener thoroughly (approx. 2 minutes) by using a low speed hand drill with a paddle. The amount of mixture depends on the area to be coated and on the pot life of the mixture. Unpainted surfaces: Concrete floors: Remove cement glue with a grinding machine. Remove sanding dust. Wooden floors: Remove all dirt, oil, dust and grease. 34 PRODUCT DATA SHEET (4) Temafloor 3000 APPLICATION DETAILS Application conditions Preparation Priming Patching Diluting Screeding Joint sealing Mixing of components The relative humidity of the concrete should not exceed 97 %. The temperature of the ambient air, surface or coating should not fall below + 15 ºC during application or drying. Relative humidity of air should not exceed 80 %. New concrete: Remove laitance by power grinding, vacuum grit blasting or hydrochloric acid etching. Choose the method best suited for the premises. After grinding remove dust carefully with a vacuum cleaner. Hydrochloric acid etching is carried out with diluted hydrochloric acid (1 part concentrated hydrochloric acid, 4 parts water). Rinse with plenty of water. Dry the floor. Old concrete: Remove all grease, oil, chemicals and other impurities by MAALIPESU detergent. Remove old peeling paint layer by grinding, milling or vacuum grit blasting. Choose the method best suited for the premises. Clean out pot-holes removing all loose friable material. Open cracks with e.g. an abrasive tool. Remove loose material and dust. Prime using % with Thinner 1029 (or 1031) thinned Temafloor 200 Primer or 400 epoxy varnish. Pour the varnish onto the floor and apply as much as is needed to impregnate the concrete surface. If necessary, repeat priming to get a non-porous surface. Subsequent treatment can be carried out after 2 hours using "wet-on-wet" technique. A porous priming coat will result in holes and air bubbles in the finished screed. Patch pot-holes and cracks with a mixture of unthinned Temafloor 200 Primer epoxy varnish or Temafloor P 300 epoxy coating and dry, clean sand. Mixing ratio e.g. 1 part by volume of epoxy mixture and 1-2 parts by volume of sand of grain size mm. Do not thin Temafloor 3000 epoxy screed. The screed may be applied not earlier than 6 h (23 ºC) and not later than 24 h after priming and patching. If the primed surface is not overcoated within 24 hrs, it should be abraded. Pour the screed mixture onto the floor and spread it with an adjustable or a serrated trowel. When using a flat-bladed steel trowel, control that the thickness of layer is correct by observing screed consumption and by measuring the film thickness. Level the screed with a spiked roller approx min after application. Spiked roller helps removing air bubbles from the coating. Note! Add the remaining mixture to the next batch of the screed, do not scrape it out of the container onto the floor. When you apply screed on large areas, place working joints in line with pillars, expansion joints, gullies etc. Make working joints and trimmings by using a wide masking tape. Apply the screed on the masking tape and remove after levelling with a spiked roller. When continuing application mask the edge of the already hardened layer of screed and remove the tape after application and levelling with a spiked roller.when you apply screed on large areas, place working joints in line with pillars, expansion joints, gullies etc. Make working joints and trimmings by using a wide masking tape. Apply the screed on the masking tape and remove after levelling with a spiked roller. Use dry, clean natural or quarz sand as a filler. The amount of mixture depends on the area to be coated and on the pot life of the mixture. Insufficient mixing or incorrect mixing ratio will result in uneven drying of the surface, weaken the properties of the screed and risk the success of the application. Forms electrically conductive coating when used with Temafloor 310 ESD primer. Meets the requirements for conductive floor coatings according to IEC-EN High impact and good chemical resistance. Prevents electrostatic discharge damages and recommended in places where electric discharge is not desirable e.g. in electronic industry, production and storing of explosive materials, place with higher risks of ignition. Thick layers are applied by a screed box or by a straight-edge and suitable laths to gauge the required thickness. Knead the screeded surface by hands or use a suitable lightweight floating machine. Overcoating can be carried out after hours using Temafloor 401 epoxy varnish thinned 20-30% with Thinner If the surface is not overcoated within 24 hrs, it should be abraded. Pour the varnish mixture onto the floor, spread with a rubber trowel and level with a roller. Mix the correct proportions of base and hardener thoroughly (approx. 2 minutes) by using a hand drill with a paddle, concrete mixer or power mixer. Add conductive sand mixture to the varnish mixture by mixing carefully at the same time. Insufficient mixing or incorrect mixing ratio will result in uneven drying of the surface, weaken the properties of the screed and risk the success of the application.
