Concrete is charged into the mould by wheel barrow and pushed into the mould by scraper (supplied), so that the height of the concrete exceeds the height of the finished block by 30-40mm. The vibrators are switched on manually, pre-compacting the concrete for 2-4 seconds. The excess concrete is then scraped off. The tamper Item 1 is then dropped and lifted two or three times. Vibration is now finalised. The blocks are then de-moulded. In this procedure the mould goes up as the operating lever Item 2 is lowered. The road wheels engage and the machine becomes mobile and is pulled back to the new position for the next cycle.

10 PO BOX BOOYSENS-JOHANNESBURG 2016 TELEPHONE: TELEFAX: BOOYSENS RD BOOYSENS-JOHANNESBURG 2091 AGGREGATE MIX FOR HAND MOULDS To ensure maximum stability of the green brick or block, the mix must contain the correct proportions of fine and medium/coarse aggregate. The quantity of water to be added to the mix must be found by trials (sufficient water must be added to the mixture to form a ball on the palm of the hand when compressed). A typical 8 : 1 aggregate mix is as follows: 6 (six) parts river or crusher sand 2 (two) parts 10mm chips of sifted clinker 1 (one) part cement.
