In addition to the Retrofitting requirements for those improvements, the licensee will be informed about the need for Wind Mitigation in Florida, as well as costs estimates associated with the aforementioned improvements, and will be given resources for locating additional information. Course Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this course. Course Learning Objectives:
2 1. To explain and describe the need for Florida contractors to be informed about Wind Mitigation. 2. To specify the requirements and techniques for installation of gable-end retrofitting. 3. To specify the requirements and techniques for strengthening and fastening roof sheathing and address cost approximations for this improvement. 4. To specify the requirements and techniques for creating a secondary water barrier and address cost approximations for this improvement. 5. To identify several online resources for contractors to access more information on wind mitigation in Florida. Course Outline: Section 1- Addressing the Need for Wind Mitigation Identifies the need for wind mitigation in Florida; discusses the environmental and legislative events that led to the development of these requirements; introduces the interrelated groups impacted by wind mitigation; reviews the premium discounts available for wind mitigation safeguards; pinpoints the eligibility of a structure for retrofitting gable ends; outlines the materials of construction for gable end retrofitting; and alerts students to built-in resources for this course, including definitions and relevant sections of code. 7 Method of Presentation: This is an online instructor-led course that consists of collegiate-style lectures that have been professionally narrated by a properly licensed subject matter expert, animated with relevant graphics and media, and converted to Flash for web delivery to provide licensees with a firstrate learning experience. Evaluation Method: Licensees will be evaluated on their comprehension of the material covered by participating in three (3) short learning exercises, interspersed throughout each hour of the course, upon which successful completion of each is required before advancement to the next segment is allowed and credit may be obtained for course completion. When required by the licensing authority, licensees must additionally complete a final examination with a minimum proficiency of 70% to obtain credit for course completion.
