2 BEVELBACK WEATHERBOARD PRODUCT TECHNICAL STATEMENT This product technical statement has been prepared in accordance with MBIE Guidance. All claims of performance are supported by documentation that is available upon request, providing that the information is not commercially sensitive. BEVELBACK WEATHERBOARD DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE The Bevelback Weatherboard External Wall Cladding System comprises along run metal profile and associated design and installation information. The Bevelback weatherboard System is a traditional timber cladding profile and is formed from steel manufactured in NZ by New Zealand Steel. This steel is available, nationally, branded as Colorsteel Endura, Colorsteel Maxx, Galvsteel and Zincalume. Bevelback Weatherboard is available in two thicknesses: 0.4mm and 0.55mm. The profile sheet is supplied with a 787mm sheet cover width with the following profile dimensions: Weatherboard Applications: Commercial and residential. Orientation: Horizontal wall cladding only. SCOPE OF USE The Bevelback Weatherboard External Wall Cladding System is intended for use on buildings within the following: For use as an external wall cladding system the following applies: In new buildings that comply with the NZ Building Code designed to AS/NZS1170:200, using timber or steel framing: In existing buildings using timber or steel framing, where the designer and installer have satisfied themselves that the existing building is suitable for the intended building work: On buildings located within 1m of the relevant boundary, in respect of spread of fire only. Building height & design wind speed limited by the Bevelback Weatherboard design load span tables refer to In all wind zones, up to extra high as defined in Table 5.4 NZS3604:2011, In wind zones subject to specific engineering the engineer must satisfy themselves that the product, pitch and fixings will meet the conditions. Installed in conjunction with a vapour permeable building wrap has a permeability of 36g/m2/day or a vapour resistance of no more than 500MNs/g Where used in an insulated building in conjunction with steel framing, a thermal break is required. Contact with other materials must be in accordance with Table 21 (E2/AS1) In all situations, where the building is insulated Bevelback Weatherboard must be installed in conjunction with a ventilated and drained cavity Bevelback Weatherboard may be used as a wall cladding system in exposure zones B & C. 3 NZ BUILDING CODE The NZ Building Code applies to building work and needs to be considered in two ways: 1 the code obligations that relate to the building element, and 2 the code obligations that apply once the building element has been installed. Always refer to the Metalcraft Roofing website to ensure the current documents are relied upon Ensure the information relied upon applies to the intended use. Ensure the right system is specified for the taking into account the specific building work and the specific site conditions. Limitations The system is not designed as a fire rated system. Where fire rating is required, refer to Metalcraft Roofing. Establishing compliance with E3 is the designer s responsibility. Metalcraft Roofing requires that specification or design must be carried out by a person with access to all relevant documentation and is or has access to the necessary competencies to carry out design of this nature. 4 INSTALLER CONSIDERATIONS Conditions The installation must be in accordance with all Metalcraft Roofing s technical information and drawings refer: Please note that these documents are controlled. Always refer to the Metalcraft Roofing Ltd website to ensure the current documents are relied upon. Refer also to New Zealand Steel Installers Guide ( to ensure that the appropriate fasteners are being used. STORAGE AND HANDLING Ensure that panels are stored flat and in a dry, ventilated environment until installed. Prior to installation carry out a visual check to ensure that the surface coating has not been damaged. Limitations Metalcraft Roofing requires that installation must be carried out by a person with access to all relevant documentation and has or has access to, the necessary competencies to carry out design of this nature. QUALITY CONTROL OF PRODUCT The environment is an issue that affects us not only as individuals but also the business activities in which we participate. As a member of the construction industry we are proud to be involved in roll-forming a product that is recyclable. New Zealand Steel, who is our key supply partner, has produced informative material which looks at the various aspects of steel manufacturing and its impact on the environment. New Zealand Steel conduct scratch testing on the steel coil products and we conduct visual inspections of products manufactured and check for any irregularities, if any irregularities are found then the plant is serviced on a need to service basis as generally they do not require annual maintenance. Any waste or scrap steel is put aside to be recycled as does any surplus packaging material like cardboard, plastic etc. HEALTH AND SAFETY Each of our branches have a Health and Safety Policy and we are committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for the people that work for us, our visitors and all person s using our premises as a place to work. STEEL SOURCING Our wide selection of roofing and rainwater systems are manufactured from New Zealand Steel Galvsteel, Zincalume, Colorsteel Endura and Colorsteel Maxx. SUSTAINABLE Steel is a recyclable product, so you can be confident in the knowledge that it does not have to be disposed of in landfill. Instead it can easily be recycled and reused, thereby minimising resource use and reducing impact on our environment.
