14 Regular program of the government providing seedlings for tree planting to organizations SWOT Internal Strengths Internal Weaknesses External Opportunities External Threats The barangay is within an IP area in which the Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title (CADT) is issued to the tribe. Limited resources Partnership/Networki ng Unavailability of seedlings of trees endemic to the area Earlier intention of the Barangay Council to conduct a tree planting project. High possibility of funding from donor Earlier commitment of the Tribal Council of Elders and Leaders to support the implementation of the Commitment of Resource Speaker project.
15 PROJECT DESCRIPTION The project is mainly environmental wherein the primary goal is to conserve the environment for the future generation of IPs in the specific area. The main activity will be tree planting in places within Barangay Datu Salumay which have been barren for a long time brought about by drought some seven years ago. Specifically mentioned by the community where the tree planting will take place is on a watershed area within the barangay. Before the tree planting, an information dissemination session will take place on the subject Preservation of the Environment and Climate Change. This will bring about advocacy of environmental protection to the participants. A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the participating IP youth and Tribal Elders and Leaders of Barangay Datu Salumay will take place declaring the area a Mini-Protected Area for the IP Youth.
16 VISION The project envisioned an environmentally conscious and responsible IP Youth which
17 GOALS The goal of the project is to establish a Mini-Protected Area in Barangay Datu Salumay, Marilog District, Davao City as a symbol for the Indigenous Peoples of the area to protect and secure the environment for the future generation of IPs
18 OBJECTIVES To disseminate information on the reasons for protecting the environment To be able to plant 150 seedlings of trees within the watershed area of Brgy. Datu Salumay To train IP youth participants the value of protecting the environment and to ingrain in them the spirit of volunteerism and community service
