EPA Method 529 can be used for a variety of purposes, all related to the detection of explosives and explosive residue. Secondary applications include the new wave of electronic sensors as part of increased security measures being taken at airports to ensure the safety of travelers. EPA Method 527 is used to detect a potential pollutant identified as a by-product of the electronics and computer industry. When semiconductors on circuit boards heat up, PBDE flame retardants reduce any potential fire hazard. These emerging toxic chemicals build up in soil, ground water and drinking water. ULTRA Scientific s third new analytical standards product group,total Organic Carbon (TOC) and Total Inorganic Carbon (TIC), is used to measure carbon content as the end result of manufacturing processes in, for example, the pharmaceutical industry. EPA Method 527 Flame Retardant and Pesticide Standards Though EPA Method 527 is primarily a method for the analysis of many different semi-volatile contaminants, it is now being utilized to analyze for a new class of Emerging Contaminants Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether (PBDE), Flame Retardant. Brominated flame retardants have come under recent scrutiny as potentially harmful environmental pollutants. Many types of PBDEs have recently been banned in Europe due to their potential toxicity. Total Organic Carbon (TOC) & Total Inorganic Carbon (TIC) Standards Total Organic Carbon (TOC) detection is an important measurement because of the effect carbon-based chemicals may have on the environment, human health, and manufacturing processes. TOC is a highly sensitive, non-specific measurement of all organics present in a sample. For example, it can be used to regulate organic chemical discharge to the environment at a manufacturing plant.
