3 BECOPAD For industrial, non-pharmaceutical processes BECOPAD P In compliance with pharmaceutical processes Filtration principle: Mechanical separation, very low adsorption Filtration principle: Mechanical separation with adsorptive effect The pure BECOPAD is available for non-critical industrial and non-pharmaceutical processes where the main focus is on maximum filtration outputs combined with optimal clarification and highest particle retention capacity. The filtration principle is mainly based on mechanical separation of particles because of their size. The very low cationic charge reduces the degree of charge-specific adsorption. BECOPAD provides excellent filtration quality and maximizes filtration throughput for chemical applications demanding high dirt holding capacity, low non-specific protein binding and high chemical resistance. In addition to mechanical separation, BECOPAD P offers additional separation based on its cationic charge by adsorbing negatively charged particles. Further distinguishing features include the very low level of extractables and extremely low endotoxin content (< EU/ml after rinsing with 25 l/m² WFI). The detection of ion content after extraction with 40 % ethanol (after rinsing with 25 l/m² ethanol) is extremely low e. g. - Calcium < 50 ppb - Magnesium < 25 ppb - Aluminum < 5 ppb The depth filter media meet the requirements of Plastic Class Test VI and Cytotoxicity test. 6 The Concept As a supplier of complete depth filtration solutions, BEGEROW develops, produces and sells depth filter media of highest quality for a wide range of applications in the chemical, cosmetics, pharmaceutical industries as well as in biotechnology. Our process technology realizes different device and system solutions for the application of BECO depth filter media. With BECO INTEGRA PLATE, we offer an enclosed depth filtration system that optimally deals with demanding filtration tasks and guarantees safe process control. The concept BECO INTEGRA PLATE is an enclosed sheet filtration system, consisting of a filter chassis with hydraulic compression and a filter pack. The filter pack is made up of individual elements (optionally stainless steel or plastic). Depending on the filtration task, BECO depth filter sheets are used for coarse, clarifying or sterile filtration. The BECO INTEGRA PLATE can optionally be used for cake filtration, sheet filtration or step filtration. 7 The Filter Pack Configuration Depending on the filtration task, the filter pack is made up of feed plates, filtrate plates or cake frames. For the filtration, BECO depth filter sheets are inserted between the filter elements and compressed. For sheet filtration, a feed plate, a BECO depth filter sheet and a filtrate plate are used alternately. For cake filtration, the filter pack consists of a combination of cake frame and filtrate plate and an intermediate BECO depth filter sheet. The cake frame is used for holding the solids. For step filtration, a baffle plate enables two-stage sheet filtration or primary precoat filtration followed by secondary sheet filtration. The filter elements are designed to ensure secure insertion of the BECO depth filter sheet. Support rods below the filter pack are therefore not required. The product channels of the filter elements are sealed via the BECO depth filter sheet; no additional gaskets are required. This ensures that only the filter element and the BECO depth filter sheet are in contact with the product. An additional circumferential gasket hermetically seals the filter pack. The filter elements are manufactured following cgmp guidelines. 4

10 The Filter Chassis Filter chassis The filter chassis consists of a fixed front cover and two carrier bars that are connected to the cross member on the opposite side. The individual filter elements are hung on the carrier bars. Several elements and BECO depth filter sheets form the filter pack together with the fixed and movable cover. 11 The Operating Principles Sheet filtration The material to be filtered is fed into two distribution channels of the filter pack via the riser. These distribute the liquid via openings into the feed plates/cake frames. The fluid to be filtered flows through the BECO depth filter sheet. Particles and colloids are separated. The filtrate is fed to the collection channels via the filtrate plates and flows to the filter outlet via the riser pipe. Sheet filtration Cake filtration The unfiltrate with high particle concentration to be filtered is fed into the two distribution channels via the riser. These distribute the material to be filtered and the solids into the cake frames via the supply channels. Solids and liquid are separated by the depth filter medium. During the filtration cycle, the solids build up a cake at the BECO depth filter sheet. The liquid is clarified during this process. The filtrate is fed to the collection channels via the filtrate plates and flows to the filter outlet via the riser pipe. Sheet filtration with wide cake frames Step filtration (with baffle plate) The baffle plate can be used to separate the filter into two areas. This enables two-stage sheet filtration or primary cake filtration followed by secondary sheet filtration. Step filtration 8

The BEGEROW range is complemented by our comprehensive service. Process specialists will provide support for the preparation of the requirements profile and its practical implementation, the delivery documentation including IQ/OQ, and staff training. The BECO depth filter sheets BECO depth filter sheets are made from particularly pure natural materials and cationic charge carriers. Finely fibrillated cellulose fibers from deciduous and coniferous trees, and high-quality and particularly pure kieselguhrs are used. The following product ranges are available for selecting the optimum depth filter medium for the particular filtration task: 1) BECO PR UltraPure range The use of highly purified raw materials ensures minimum content of extractable components and minimum Endotoxin content of < 0,025 EU/ml. The depth filter media meet the requirements of USP in terms of oxidizable substances. Validation guide is available for the user. It was thus possible to reduce the rinse volume by 50 % to 25 l/m 2, which eliminated cost-intensive rinse solutions (WFI and others) in addition to cutting the rinse time in half. At the same time the PR UltraPure range offers approx. 30 % higher throughput compared with other depth filter sheet ranges. BECO PR range Particularly pure raw materials and a special production method ensure an endotoxin content < EU/ml. Our long-standing experience in the production of BECO depth filter sheets, combined with the special production technology, guarantees a powerful and low-endotoxin depth filter medium. BECO PR ENDURA range The BECO PR ENDURA and PR ENDURA S ranges of support sheets for precoat filtration were specially developed for the exacting requirements of the pharmaceutical industry. Low endotoxin content of these ranges is ensured through the use of particularly pure raw materials and a special production process. BECO depth filter sheets containing activated carbon These special BECO depth filter sheets have a high adsorption capacity through their high activated carbon content. This adsorptive characteristics enable, for example the decolorization of protein solutions. The ACF 07 range is also very suitable for lipid removal and dechlorination. BECO standard range Numerous grades covering a wide retention range enable precise adaptation to the respective task within the required separation range. BECO CP1 These depth filter sheets were developed for the filtration of colloidal and viscous media and media containing particles. BECO CPS range The standard depth filter sheets of this range were optimized for the filtration of highly viscous liquids with coarse, crystalline, amorphous or gel-like structure. BECO CR/CN range These BECO depth filter sheets are characterized by higher chemical resistance and mechanical durability. 13 The Quality Our customers end products are subject to very rigorous and precisely defined quality requirements and different regulations. Some production processes have to be protected from external influences and validated according to the FDA or cgmp requirements. For other production processes, the emissions released by the product are of particular concern. In these cases, the maximum allowable concentrations (MAK values) have to be complied with, and general emissions to the environment have to be prevented and the relevant conditions met. As part of the overall manufacturing process, depth filtration has to produce safely reproducible and therefore economic results, in order to ensure uniform quality according to the respective requirements. The BEGEROW quality policy therefore aims to produce and offer products and services with uniform and outstanding quality. The processes required to achieve this are described, regularly checked for their performance and further developed. 16 The Company BEGEROW was established in 1933 as a family enterprise. Today, more than 70 years later, BEGEROW is one of the main manufacturers of depth filter media and depth filtration systems in the world. We develop, produce and sell depth filter media of highest quality for a variety of applications in the pharmaceutical and the biotechnology industry. Further areas of application are the chemical industry, the cosmetics industry, and the beverage and the food industry. Our product range comprises BECO depth filter sheets, BECODISC stacked disc cartridges and associated equipment and system solutions. Depth Filtration Depth filtration is used as clarification filtration, fine filtration, or for germ reducing filtration. It is particularly suitable for the effective and safe separation of colloidal haze, very fine particles and micro-organisms. Depth filter sheets or support sheets can also be used for extracting recyclable substances or as support material for cake filtration. Mechanisms The depth filtration mechanisms are both of a mechanical and adsorptive nature. Particles are mechanically retained in the asymmetric hollow space structure of the depth filter medium (gradually decreasing pore structure towards the outlet side). Particles that are significantly smaller than the pores of the depth filter medium are retained through adsorption. This is due to the positive zeta potential (electrokinetic potential), which retains negatively charged particles through adsorption. Components Very pure, finely fibrillated cellulose fibers form the matrix of the BECO depth filter sheets. The characteristic selektive properties of the depth filter sheets are achieved in combination with filtration-active mineral components (e.g. kieselguhr). Our head office and production facilities are located in Germany. 17 Depth Filter Media Due to their individual components and the special manufacturing processes, BECO depth filter sheets ensure high dirt holding capacity, safe retention and good haze reduction. This results in consistently high performance and safe and reproducible filtration results. The BECO depth filter sheets are used in enclosed and classic plate and frame filters. BECO depth filter sheets are also used to produce depth filter cells for insertion in BECODISC stacked disc cartridges. The special design of the stacked disc cartridge units provides excellent mechanical stability for the BECODISC stacked disc cartridge and enables simple insertion and removal in BECO INTEGRA DISC stacked disc cartridge housings. BECODISC stacked disc cartridges have proven particularly successful for coarse, clarification and fine filtration, and for germ-reducing and sterilizing filtration. Stacked disc cartridges can also be used as pre-filters for effective membrane protection. Only plastic versions of the 800 x 800 mm (31.50 x in) filter elements are available (PP and PVDF).
