Groundwater is the source of all of the drinking water supplied by New York American Water (NYAW). It is drawn up from the ground from two wells located in the aquifer system beneath the land surface, and spreadout throughout our service territory. The aquifers are water-bearing geologic deposits of sand and clay that absorb and store about 45 percent of the rain and snow that fall on Long Island. The aquifers utilized by NYAW Sea Cliff Operations are the Magothy and Lloyd Aquifers.
