1 Newsletter Issue 11 21/01/2013 R&D: Ongoing development of our Multibore membranes BASF research specialists and the inge GmbH development team have been working together to push forward the development of our membrane technology. Much of our research work is currently focused on optimizing fouling properties. By modifying the membrane material and using novel process chemicals for backwashing and cleaning, we are aiming to minimize adsorptive fouling by biopolymers. This allows us to achieve higher flux rates and reduce the frequency of backwashes, which helps cut operating costs while simultaneously increasing membrane service life. 2 Newsletter page 2 New projects: China: 50,000 m³ of drinking water a day for oil refinery inge GmbH is working with its Chinese partner Beijing Origin Water Technology Company to equip a drinking water treatment facility for an oil refinery in Daqing. The temperature of the surface water and groundwater to be treated in Daqing ranges from just 0.9 to 2 degrees Celsius. Despite the challenging water conditions and a high flux rate of 70 lmh, inge UF technology not only achieved the best filtrate results in the pilot phase, but also scored highest in terms of energy savings, requiring almost 30% less energy than competing in-out UF systems and 50% less than out-in systems. The T-Rack vario, which have a daily treatment capacity of 50,000 m³, are scheduled to come online in mid-august Pilot system for the Daqing project Egypt: Waste water treatment for steel works with daily capacity of 26,000 m³ inge GmbH has been contracted to supply some 600 dizzer modules to the highly-regarded Turkish water and waste water treatment company Aritim Mühendislik, which will be using the modules to construct an ultrafiltration facility for a steel works in Egypt. The raw water will be drawn from a municipal waste water treatment plant and the steel works cooling tower. The ultrafiltration system will treat 26,000 m³ of waste water a day. The treated water will then pass through a reverse osmosis (RO) stage before being returned to the steel works as clean cooling water. Thailand: Treatment plant for 25,000 m³ of municipal waste water a day in Patong/Phuket As a customer of our Thai partner IMI Envitec Co., Ltd., the plant constructor WOG has been commissioned to build a treatment plant for municipal waste water with a capacity of around 25,000 m³ a day. Thailand: Process water for sugar and biopower company As one of Thailand s biggest companies, No.1 of sugar producer actively invests in environmental protection and the conservation of resources. Its latest move involves replacing sand filtration with ultrafiltration in a number of its water treatment facilities. After being filtered through inge modules, the surface water passes through a reverse osmosis stage and further processing steps before being fed into the sugar factory s biogas plants as process water. These systems are also due to come online as early as spring Process water for biogas plants in Thailand Sultanate of Brunei/Borneo: 10,000 m³ of drinking water a day In the Sultanate of Brunei on the island of Borneo, the Bukit Barun drinking water treatment plant, which purifies surface water and has a capacity of around 10,000 m³ a day, is currently being equipped with inge modules. The project was commissioned by the Brunei Waterworks, a highly innovative company that is determined to seek out new, eco-friendly technologies which help to protect the environment and preserve the country s resources. The UF plant, which is being designed and built by inge s Malaysian partner Greendex Sdn Bhd together with Brunei contractor Lee Choon EWC, consists of 96 modules which will be arranged in 4 T-Rack vario filtration lines. 4 Newsletter page 4 Qatar: 24,000 m³ a day of treated waste water for irrigating parks and green spaces The Qatari capital of Doha recycles secondary municipal and industrial waste water and uses it to irrigate parks and green spaces. In Phase 2 of the first stage of the project, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is equipping its treatment facility with five T-Rack vario UF module racks designed to fine filter 24,000 m³ of water a day. The facility is scheduled to be completed in early inge GmbH expanding worldwide: Gaining the Brazilian company Oquos as a sales partner for South America was a major step forward for inge. In November 2012, the inge sales team traveled to São Paulo to join its new partner for the first time at FIMAI, the international trade fair for environmental and energy technology. That event gave the green light for ramping up the marketing of inge UF products in South America with a particular focus on Brazil. Who to contact: tletourneau@inge.ag and scaothien@inge.ag Overall, inge GmbH increased headcount by some 30 percent in 2012, with new hires spread across all the divisions of its Greifenberg site and its worldwide sales operations.
