N : Fax N : Composition and Information on Ingredients Each battery consists in an assembly of 48 Li-Ion rechargeable cells, linked with an electronic management system acting as an energy management for Pellenc tools, including protection circuit and packaged within a fire resistant plastic casing. The protection circuit avoids during normal use any possibility of short circuit or any other electrical hazard. Each Li-Ion rechargeable cell consists of a hermetically sealed metallic container containing a number of chemicals and materials of construction of which the following could potentially be hazardous upon release. There is no potential for exposure to these ingredients unless the battery cell leaks, or opens, following high temperature, mechanical or electrical abuse. 2 ACGIH: American Council of Government Industrial Hygienists TLV: Threshold Limit Value is personal exposure limit, determined by ACGIH 3- Hazards identification For the battery cell, chemical materials are stored in a hermetically sealed metal case container, designed to withstand temperatures and pressures encountered during normal use. As a result, during normal use, there is no physical danger of ignition or explosion and chemical danger of hazardous materials leakage. However, if exposed to a fire, added mechanical shocks, decomposed, added electric stress by miss-use, the gas release vent will be operated. The battery cell container will be breached at the extreme, hazardous materials may be released. Moreover, if heated strongly by the surrounding fire, acrid gas may be emitted. To prevent all those effects in case of miss-use, and at least to limit them, the electronic circuit of the battery is acting automatically to discharge the battery cells up to 40% maximum of their original capacity for long term storage and transportation purpose. Most important hazards and effects: - Human health effects: Inhalation: The steam of the electrolyte has an anesthesia action and stimulates a respiratory tract. Skin contact: The steam of the electrolyte stimulates skin. The electrolyte skin contact causes a sore and stimulation on the skin. Eye contact: The steam of the electrolyte stimulates eyes. The electrolyte eye contact causes a sore and stimulation on the eye. Especially, substance that causes a strong inflammation of the eyes is contained. - Environmental effects: Since a battery cell and other battery pack components remains in the environment, do not throw it out into the environment. Specific hazards: If the electrolyte contacts with water, it will generate detrimental hydrogen fluoride. Since the leaked electrolyte is inflammable liquid, do not bring close to fire. 4- First Aid Measures (in case of leaking or accidentally opened battery cells) Inhalation Skin contact Eye contact In case of inhaled the fumes or dusts from internal materials, remove from exposure to fresh air immediately. Rest and keep warm. In severe cases obtain medical attention. In case of the internal materials come into contact with the skin, wash off skin thoroughly with water. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. In severe cases obtain medical attention. 3 Ingestion Further treatment If swallowed the internal materials, wash out mouth thoroughly with water and give plenty of water drink. Obtain medical attention. All cases of eye contamination, persistent skin irritation and casualties who have swallowed this substance or been affected by breathing its vapours should be seen by a doctor. 5- Fire Fighting Measure Dry chemical type or CO₂ extinguishers, water spray or water-based foam can be used to cool down burning Li-ion cells and batteries. For large fire, use sand and copious quantities of water. During water application, caution should be exercised as burning pieces of flammable particles may be ejected from the fire. Corrosive and toxic fumes may be emitted during fire When the battery burns with other combustibles simultaneously, take fire-extinguishing method which correspond to the combustibles. In case of fire, it is recommended to wear self-contained breathing apparatus, protection gloves, protective glasses, protective clothes and shoes, to avoid any breathe or any contact with irritant fumes or dusts. Evacuate all persons from immediate area of fire. Do not re-enter the area until it has been adequately purged of the fire vapours and extinguishing agent. 6- Accidental Release Measures In case of electrolyte leakage from a cell or battery, do not inhale the gas as possible, avoid touching it as much as possible. Remove personnel from area. If the skin has come into contact with the electrolyte, it should be washed thoroughly with water. Using protective glasses and gloves, sand or earth should be used to absorb any exuded material. Seal leaking battery (unless hot) and contaminated absorbent material in sealed container and dispose of as special waste in accordance with local regulations. Pay attention to high risk of slipping due to leakage/spillage of product. 7- Handling and storage Handling Technical measures for prevention of user exposure: Not necessary under normal use. In case of a battery unintentionally be crushed, rubber gloves must be used to handle all battery components. Avoid contact with eyes, skin. Avoid inhalation. Precaution for safe handling: Do not damage or disassemble the battery pack. No smoking at working site. 3/7 MSDS Battery 400 Revision 3 September 2010

4 Storage Other Specific safe handling advice: Never throw out the battery pack or expose to high temperatures. Do not soak in water or seawater. Do not expose to strong oxidizers, strong acids, corrosives, water and seawater. Do not crush, pierce, short (+) and (-) battery terminals with conductive (e.g. metal) goods, which would end up into excessive heating. Do not mutilate or mechanically abuse battery cells and battery pack. Use only charger according to the conditions specified by Pellenc. Store in a cool (preferably below 30 C and humidity below 85%) and ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, moisture, sources of heat, open flames, food and drink. Keep adequate clearance with Incompatible products: conductive materials, water, seawater, strong oxidizers, strong acids, corrosives, combustible materials. Do not jumble several battery packs, and store them preferably in their original packaging. Follow Manufacturers recommendations for the normal use of the battery pack. Do not immerse in water. The battery pack is not designed to be recharged from power sources besides specific Li-ion charger models approved by Pellenc. The battery pack is not designed to be able to power tools besides specific tools designed and manufactured by Pellenc. Skin reaction or a lung disease for allergic or hypersensitive person may be caused Skin causticity: Although it is very rare, the rash of the skin and allergic erythema may result. Local effects: Aluminum itself has no toxicity. When it goes into a wound, dermatitis may be caused. Chronic toxicity/long term toxicity: By the long term inhalation of coarse particulate or fume, it is possible to cause lung damage (aluminum lungs). Dispose of or recycle in accordance with appropriate local regulations. - Contaminated packaging Neither a container nor packing is contaminated during normal use. When internal materials leaked from a battery cell contaminates, dispose as industrial wastes subject to special control. 14- Transport Information When manufacturing a new battery pack, one must assure that it is tested in accordance with the UN Model regulations, Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III, subsection For the multi cell battery packs which are restricted to transport (assigned to the Miscellaneous class 9), use Class 9 Miscellaneous Label for conveyance Dangerous Goods and UN Identification Number labels. In all cases, refer to the product transport certificate issued by the Manufacturer.
