One Globe Overview ONE aggressive effort for ONE GLOBE survival ONE integrated model for ONE GLOBE solutions ONE hybrid funding strategy for ONE GLOBE success ONE strategic approach for ONE GLOBE sustainability One Globe Vision A world where sustainability of the planet and prosperity for its people are universally embraced as a way of life. Because climate change is the defining human development challenge of the 21st Century, One Globe is actively participating in the worldwide edict to explore, develop and implement solutions. The poorest countries and most vulnerable citizens will suffer the earliest and most damaging setbacks, even though they have contributed the least to the problem. Looking to the future, no country however wealthy or powerful will be immune to the effects of global warming. One Globe has adopted and is solely focused on implementing the globally-defined trinity for sustainable infrastructure development Economic, Environmental and Social. Economic Sustainable Environment Social Our groundbreaking approach to sustainable infrastructure development successfully integrates strategic solutions into our business model to create wealth, spur growth and spark social change. Page 1-4
Overview A Catalyst for Global Change One Globe Corporation (OGC) is a sustainable infrastructure company that develops replicable, scalable solutions for global sustainability. Our mission is to catalyze positive global change through economic and environmental infrastructure development while providing excellent financial returns for our investors. Through our nonprofit arm One Globe Foundation (OGF) we also develop social infrastructure to transform OGC projects into vehicles for social development. Our projects power a ripple of economic, environmental, equality and entrepreneurial initiatives that ultimately help communities and countries realize long-term sustainability and prosperity. To accomplish its mission, OGC aggregates natural and energy resources in the design and implementation of infrastructure projects including clean energy delivery for select global regions. These projects are vehicles for both return on investment and return on impact. The One Globe Portfolio includes projects that reward investors and catalyze communities. Our goal is to assist in the integration of economic and environmental priorities into strategies and processes for poverty eradication, education, healthcare and other social development initiatives. In alliance with incountry and multinational organizations, One Globe helps countries strengthen their own capacities through sound and equitable ventures by building partnerships and supporting learning and technology transfer at local, national and global levels. SITE SELECTION Catalyst SUSTAINABILITY GOALS FOR ONE GLOBE PROJECTS Economic Lead: OGC Identify sites that add value to economic and energy needs based on resources Put together financial returns Create public/private/ social sector partnerships Environment Lead: OGC Evaluate development density Conduct resource availability studies social Lead: OGF Strategize with One Globe Foundation and in-country stakeholders in the development of a One Globe Affiliate and develop social infrastructure plan SITE PLANNING Focus on Integration of Technologies Evaluate existing transmission infrastructure Evaluate ancillary energy development opportunities Capitalize on regional energy requirements Identify and utilize grants and financial support Meet or exceed environmental requirements Maximize transmission availability Evaluate conservation measures to protect lands Incorporate technology transfer training Involve local education institutions Solicit in-country and multilateral public, private, and social sector support Respect and integrate local culture SITE Design AND Construction Develop economic opportunity for stakeholders Create jobs Stimulate local economy Utilize local contractors Recycle construction waste Utilize low-impact features where possible Maximize utilization of renewables Create healthy working and living environments Provide long-term quality jobs Design for safe long-term operations Develop self-sustaining social development projects Page 1-5
Overview Solutions for Sustainability OGC is addressing the diverse challenges facing our planet and people with powerful tools the proven One Globe Model (see Appendix A) for sustainable development and the One Globe Fund (see p. 3-17). Following are some of the key universal issues and synopses of our solutions. Global Financial Crisis Challenge: The ongoing financial crisis that has engulfed the world financial markets is being felt across the globe and prompting fear that financing for development will be threatened. Solution: OGC employs multiple funding strategies that engage the international donor community through public, private and social sector investments. Additionally, we attract private investors to our projects via the One Globe Fund (see p. 3-17). Once private investors are involved, getting the attention and interest from multilateral funding sources is significantly increased. Fostering the concept of doing well while doing good, the One Globe Fund is a hybrid-investment approach structured to provide global impact as well as high returns and tax benefits. Ten percent of all OGC economic and environmental infrastructure profits are reinvested in local communities and other in-country social initiatives under the guidance of OGC s nonprofit arm, One Globe Foundation. Technology Transfer Challenge: The absence of affordable and appropriate technology hinders sustainable development globally. Technology transfer in areas such as solar, wind, and geothermal renewable energy is essential. Solution: One Globe provides world-class expertise, technology and training in infrastructure and clean energy development such as Wind, Solar, Geothermal, Water and Bio-Energy. Our integrated approach to resource development maximizes the energy production potential at each site location, for instance: a geothermal project could also include geo/solar technology and a biomass project could also include a pelletization or gasification plant producing more clean energy. Our team brings expertise in the multi-sector requirements of social development and works in tandem with in-country leadership to meet specific community needs and provide training to sustain ongoing operations. Climate Change Adaptation Challenge: Climate change poses numerous constraints to sustainable development it affects agriculture, rural development and land which exacerbates the constraints posed by food security, water scarcity and dwindling resources. Solution: All climate-sensitive systems of society and the natural environment, including agriculture, forestry, water resources, human health, coastal settlements, and natural ecosystems, will need to adapt to a changing climate or possibly face diminished productivity, functioning and health. Meeting these challenges head-on is One Globe s core vision, mission and business. Page 1-6
Overview Partnership Model for Implementation Challenge: International community input has flourished in the development of sustainable initiatives and strategies, but direct partnerships for implementation and investment are lacking. Solution: By design, the One Globe Model promotes a ripple effect that when harnessed properly powers an engine for growth. The ignition is the launch of a renewable energy and/or infrastructure catalyst project. The catalyst project drives community/county development. The community/county development drives local/national governance and initiates economic, environmental, equality and entrepreneurial opportunities. The catalyst project also drives the launch of clusters of support industries and emerging markets. The clusters drive infrastructure development throughout the country, maintaining existing industries while expanding the tax base with diverse, clean, emerging markets that ensures the environmental and fiscal health of the nation. This approach to project development represents a proven business model and will be replicated in other parts of the world (see Appendices A and B). Socio-Economic Development Challenge: The lack of jobs, safe drinking water, accessible healthcare, education and housing are the main obstacles to advance and protect the economic and social rights of citizens. Solution: One Globe sustainable initiatives are designed to offer wider significance beyond economic and environmental project development. Our initiatives not only create jobs which improve the overall quality of life within the community but provide additional funding sources to address the multidimensional socio-economic needs. A Wealth of Expertise Through the One Globe Teams from both OGC and OGF, a host of alliances and the backing of significant investor capital, we have the ability to attract and acquire the most promising project opportunities for the One Globe Portfolio. We also have the depth and breadth of expertise to enlist a designated team for each project, as well as access to a deep bench of additional talent as required. A Principled Approach One Globe believes that: We must focus on the dual-energy challenges facing the world meeting increased global energy demand while reducing the growth in greenhouse gas emissions. We must infuse our core mission of sustainability in all of our projects to provide the highest and best outcomes for the human condition and natural environments, both now and into the future. We, the global community, must do our part to meet our economic, ecological and social obligation to each other and the planet. The practice of realizing two types of ROI Return on Investment and Return on Impact must be adopted if we are to strike a balance for global sustainability. Project success is measured with a quadruple bottom line that encompasses purpose, people, profit and planet. Page 1-7
Appendices Appendix A One Globe Model A central theme in all One Globe projects is creating a platform for socio-economic viability and sustainable communities. The One Globe Model provides the cornerstones for this platform Economy, Environment, Equality and Entrepreneurship. Economy - If a project is not profitable, it is not sustainable We work with clients and projects to establish a model for long-term financial viability. Developing a catalyst project that attracts public, private, and social sector funding improves the ratio for success and mitigates risk. Leveraging the return on investment by reinvesting appropriate percentages back into next-phase projects, a support industry, an emerging market and/or initiatives with a high return on impact creates a ripple effect for long-term economic development. Environment - If a project depletes the planet, then it s not sustainable Stewardship of the planet is no longer an elective it s an imperative. Every project in the One Globe Portfolio must demonstrate support of and action toward carbon neutrality. The energy problem can t be solved through a single solution only with wind or bio-fuels or solar or geothermal. The renewable energy community recognizes the need for a diversified portfolio. A critical element of an integrated approach is to pursue all economic and environmentally responsible means to leverage new energy sources and reduce emissions, both in the short- and long-term. Equality - If a project harms people, then it s not sustainable More than government or business, people have the power to improve the human experience and condition worldwide. Addressing critical issues such as poverty, healthcare, livable environments, education, artistic expression and more are the essence of equality. We align with projects that have resolutionary rather than revolutionary approaches. Entrepreneurship - If a project is not purpose-driven, then it s not sustainable Unique to the One Globe Model is the addition of Entrepreneurship to what the world has defined as tenets of sustainability economic, environment, and social (aka Equality) development. With recent economic upheavals and the extraordinary global challenges coming our way, we are all on a very fast track to discover what s next? Our personal and global well-being is at stake. The economic downturn + energy economy + global warming + injustices to humankind = the perfect storm for an entrepreneur. One Globe infuses entrepreneurial thinking and innovative solutions for every sustainable infrastructure project. It is only through the next big idea that we will thrive on the planet. Page A-36
Appendices Appendix A One Globe Model COUNTRY CLUSTER COMMUNITY/COUNTY CATALYST CATALYST Launches a highly-targeted, resourcebased renewable energy project(s) COMMUNITY/COUNTY Creates sustainable growth through economic, environmental, educational and entrepreneurial development; fosters workforce and regional development CLUSTER Stimulates new markets, public policy transformation and infrastructure development COUNTRY Replicates the model for sustainable development throughout the country By design, the One Globe Model promotes a ripple effect that when harnessed properly powers an engine for growth. The project is documented as a model and replicated in other parts of the world. Page A-37
Appendices Appendix B One Globe Model Engine for Growth The One Globe Model powers an engine for growth that functions like a set of inter-connecting gears. The first gear is a catalyst project in one or more infrastructure and/or renewable energy channels. The catalyst project drives development economic, environmental, equality, entrepreneurial in the local community. In turn, community projects drive the development of clusters of support industries and emerging markets in areas such as agriculture, tourism, energy, manufacturing and commercial. Next, industrial development drives more infrastructure and social development transportation, construction, communications, education/vocational training, health and human services. Page A-38
