1 CITY OF POST FALLS Position Posting Notice July 24, 2017 Position: SEASONAL PARK WORKER - CONSTRUCTION Date Available: Immediately Closing Date: Open until Filled The City of Post Falls is accepting applications for Full Time Park Construction Workers for seasonal work in the parks. This is a 3 8 month positions. The position performs semi-skilled and skilled construction work and major maintenance on buildings and structures, irrigation systems, landscapes, and concrete. Minimum requirements; high school graduate or equivalent, one year prior experience in construction and capable of lifting 50lbs routinely and up to 100lbs occasionally.. CDL license preferred. Subject to Drug Testing. Wage Range: $ $12.28/hour, no benefits. 2 CITY OF POST FALLS CLASS SPECIFICATION Seasonal Park Construction Worker SEASONAL PARK CONSTRUCTION WORKER Pay Grade: 5 FLSA Designation: Non Exempt Updated: 01/27/2014 General Statement of Duties Performs semi-skilled and skilled concrete and new and remodeled construction on buildings and grounds, equipment and machinery and irrigation systems; performs related work as required. Classification Summary The primary function of an employee in this class is to perform construction, repair, inspection, and service work on City park and cemetery buildings and grounds, including equipment, machinery, irrigation systems, and playground structures. Additional duties include soil and plant cultivation. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Parks Construction Supervisor. The principal duties of this class are performed outdoors and may include working in adverse weather conditions and hazards involving the use of power tools, equipment and hazardous chemicals. Examples of Work (Illustrative Only) Essential Duties and Responsibilities Performs construction, maintenance and repair work on parks, restrooms, playground equipment, parking lots, trails, and picnic areas; Performs general grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, weeding, aerating, and application of herbicides and fertilizers; Performs general landscape and cleanup duties, including trash and debris removal; Maintains and cleans public restroom facilities; Installs septic systems; Constructs, inspects, maintains, installs, and repairs benches, picnic tables, receptacles, playground structures, and signs; Constructs and maintains park settings, trees, playgrounds, and other planting areas; Assists with tree planting, trimming and pruning, and removal; Maintains and repairs motorized, mechanical and groundskeeping equipment; Installs and repairs automated irrigation systems; Provides facility and equipment security; Repairs vandalism and other damage; Provides information and answers inquiries from the public; Sets up for community events and festivals; Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices. 1

3 Seasonal Park Construction Worker Other Duties and Responsibilities Assists with burial services including, but not limited to, opening and closing lots, set ups, monument settings, and pall bearer; Assists Street Department with asphalt paving and related duties, as needed; May be required to work weekends, holidays, and irregular shifts and hours; May be on call after regular work hours to respond to emergency situations; Performs other related duties as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: Basic grounds maintenance skills, including but not limited to, mowing, planting, pruning, irrigation, and fertilization; Construction of parking lots, sports fields and courts, and playground equipment; Stick building construction, remodel, foundations and flat work, windows, roofing, irrigation installation, masonry, painting, and asphalt; Botany, horticulture, tree identification, turf and/or pest control; Applicable regulations and policies regarding safe work practices. Ability to: Follow written and oral instructions; Operate power equipment, including but not limited to, groundskeeping equipment, riding and walk-behind mowers, trimmers, plate compactor, generator, concrete mixer, backhoe and tractor, and related equipment; Operate hand tools; Operate a motor vehicle, including a dump truck, trailer, hydroseeder, and front end loader; Operate, adjust, and monitor automated sprinkler control systems; Maintain maintenance records, logs, and documentation; Operate standard office equipment, including a personal computer using program applications appropriate to assigned duties; Work weekends, evenings, and holidays, as needed; Communicate effectively with the public and other employees including in sensitive situations. Acceptable Experience and Training High school diploma or GED equivalency; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work. Special Qualifications Valid Driver s License required; First Aid and CPR certification may be required; CDL license with air brake endorsement. Essential Physical Abilities Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, 2
