1 The study of the relationship between personality characteristics and job satisfaction among nurses in Urmia Imam Khomeini hospital Roya Zarrin Taj Department of Psychology, Urmia Branch, Islamic Azad University, Urmia, Iran Mehran Soleymani* *Assistant Professor of Azarbaijan Shahid Madani University, Tabriz, Iran Corresponding author: Abstract The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between personality characteristics, beliefs, communication and emotional intelligence and job satisfaction among nurses in Imam Khomeini Hospital in Urmia. The current research method was descriptive and correlational. The samples consisted of Nurses Imam Khomeini hospital that the number is 620 people. The sample included 240 people who were selected by simple random sampling method was estimated using Morgan table. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire so that to measure personality traits of neo-f questionnaire to measure job satisfaction, job satisfaction Fi and Barry Field and Ruth (1995), which has high reliability and validity were used. Using research data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient. The results showed that there is a relationship between personality characteristics and job satisfaction of nurses of Imam Khomeini Hospital in Urmia. 2 Introduction Nowadays, many health centers are faced with staff lacking motivation. Nurse s work in a stressful environment also faces numerous challenges. In this context, changes in service delivery process on the one hand and complexity of managing health centers on the other hand, managers have no choice but to rely on the capital's main human resources. Accordingly, care workers, especially nurses, are becoming increasingly known. And mechanisms should be considered to increase job satisfaction. Job satisfaction makes increased productivity, nurses committed to work, ensuring their physical and mental health, morale goes up, happy life, and a job to quickly learn new skills. Research also shows that when employees find their work satisfying, the absence or delay in work and even reduced turnover (Mirkamali, 2011). About job satisfaction, and creator factors, the various different theories have been proposed, which can be included into the innermost aspects of personality traits, feelings, emotional, motivational and emotional state and exteriors included conditions and characteristics of organizational, social and cultural categorized (Bowen, 1992). The more compatibility and suitability between personality and jobs, more job satisfaction will follow and this is more consistent than less job satisfaction, several negative consequences in the organization will follow. It is therefore appropriate character, can provide organizations with better job performance and affect employees' attitude toward their work and satisfied for it (Narimani, Khanbanzadeh and Farzaneh, 2009).Character can be defined as certain patterns of thought, emotion and behavior that individual's personal style of interaction with the social environment and the material they (Atcinsun and Hilgard, 1392). The most popular theory about personality traits, McCrae and Costa, is the five-factor model. These features include neuroticism, extroversion, and openness to experience, agreeableness and conscientiousness.neuroticism on the willingness of the individual to experience anxiety, tension, pity-seeking, hostility, impulsivity doing, depression and low self-esteem refers, while extroversion to feel positive person, dare-loving, energetic and intimate notes. Admission to individual desire for curiosity, love of art, artist, flexibility and wisdom refers, while adapting to individual desire refers to generosity, kindness, generosity, empathy, sympathy, altruism and trusting. Finally, loyalty to one's desire for regularity, efficiency, reliability and self-reliance, self-regulation, progress-oriented, logical and calm refers (Shokri et al., 2011). Job satisfaction among nurses in particular, is crucial challenge for health care organizations. Since resources are always limited and costs are high, although increased demand for nurses is increasing, supply is sufficient to meet the demand (Zangaru & Soecken, 2007).Whether there is a relationship between personality characteristics and job satisfaction are the experts disagree. Therefore, with regard to the above question in this research is whether the relationship between personality characteristics and job satisfaction among nurses there? Methodology This research method is descriptive. This study is among the field studies. The population of this research is that the number of nurses in Imam Khomeini hospital of 620 people. The sample 240 was obtained using Morgan that was selected in 2015 using simple random sampling method. To collect data, the McCrae and Costa questionnaires for personality traits and job satisfaction Barry Field and Ruth (1995) were used. we prepared the research questionnaire of supervisors and a Page 1064
3 number of professors of psychology. The questionnaire was applied in the context of their views, as well as to validity of this instrument was used scientific resources and scientific texts. Cronbach s alpha was used to determine reliability of the Cronbach alpha personality characteristics and job satisfaction, respectively, 0.89 and 0.88, respectively, which shows the reliability of the questionnaire is desirable. Using research data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient. Findings The results showed that 75.8% was men and 24.2% was women of which 61.3% were married and 38.8% were single sample. Indices descriptive statistics (central and dispersion) as mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum and range of research variables are shown in Table 1. We can see that for all variables statistically significant level of error is larger 0/05 (P-value = sig> 0/05) means that the distribution of all variables with 95 percent is normal. Pearson correlation test to examine the relationship between personality characteristics and job satisfaction among nurses are shown in Table 3. It is observed that a significant relationship with job satisfaction among nurses dimensions of personality traits because significant level of correlation of the level of error is Page 1065
4 smaller 0.05 (P-value = sig> 0.05), neuroticism relationship with job satisfaction between nurses are negative, i.e., with an increase in neuroticism decreased job satisfaction among nurses. The relationship between extroversion, acceptance, compatibility and conscientiousness and job satisfaction among nurses is positive, that with the increasing acceptance, compatibility among nurses, job satisfaction would increase. The results showed that the dimensions of personality traits have a significant relationship with job satisfaction among nurses. The relationship between neuroticism and job satisfaction among nurses is negative, i.e., with an increase in neuroticism among nurses job satisfaction decreases. The relationship between extroversion, acceptance, compatibility and conscientiousness and job satisfaction among nurses is the positive, that with the increasing acceptance, compatibility among nurses, job satisfaction increases. And this is consistent with the findings of other researchers (Bakhshipour et al., 2014; Narimani et al., 2009; Allahyari et al., 2010; Mazaher and Nozari, 2013; Pouryosef and Dastorani, 2012; Nazarpour, 2006, Hossein Zadeh et al., 2013). And it is not consistent with Najarpour, Ostadi et al. (2009). To explain these findings can be said, the compatibility and suitability between personality and job is, the more job satisfaction in the lead and whatever the consistency and compatibility is less job satisfaction was lower, effects and negative consequences numerous the organization will follow. The character selection right, can yield a better job for the organization and the employees attitude toward their work influenced and satisfied for it (Narimani et al., 2009). Job satisfaction in introverts is more introverted people, because introverts are less likely to pursue careers challenging. The work entrusted to them by doing more satisfied if they could be left alone and not to interfere in the affairs entrusted to them. They can without participative management to pay their obligations. Whereas extroverts tend to want their challenging tasks and makes decisions about their duties and consult with management and other employees. They are less able to tolerate autocratic management; stimulation is more vulnerable and reluctant to repetitive tasks and monotonous. The extroverts in jobs that require social contact, introverts are just mind their own business more successful and is not inclined to widespread social communication. More than extroverts can work away from the social environment (Dastorani and Pouryosef, 2012). On the other hand, since people with the personality trait of conscientiousness due to characteristics such as a sense of competence, a sense of duty, progress needs to be organized and orderly and organized, it is natural that they have job satisfaction in their workplace. The resilient individuals with regard to the amount of Page 1066
5 resilience in the face of experience, diversity, intellectual curiosity and independence of judgment tasted and feel beautiful than those with characteristics such as extraversion, agreeableness, following the tendency of individual and essentially altruistic and sympathetic and eager to help others and therefore have more job satisfaction in the workplace. Finally, according to the results of research based on the relationship between personality characteristics and dimensions of job satisfaction and the role of personality traits in predicting job satisfaction of nurses, it is recommended that the authorities take steps to improve characteristics such as (by the conscience of the people, the people are resilient, extrovert of the people, strengthening of empathy nurses, etc.) through training sessions and training courses or counseling. Individuals and placing them in appropriate places people do with character and thereby improve job satisfaction. Page 1067
