3 Valuable and useful data Opening data is not a goal in itself, data needs to be used to create social and economic value in society. Therefore, valuable data has to be available. Opening of valuable data requires: a) understanding the available data assets (supply side) and collaborating with the community (demand side) to identify useful data to be opened. Data must be reliable and needs to comply with OGD Principles.

4 OGD supply and demand balance When preparing the OGD Action Plan, there is a need to balance the commitments between data opening and data reuse. Commitments on building an OGD ecosystem and promoting data reuse Commitments on improving data management and opening government data 4

7 Governments Governments embrace OGD and modern technologies to leverage innovation, data-driven decisions, public service improvement, and new forms of collaboration to address social, economic and environmental complex problems. The Laboratory for the City is the experimental area of urban civic and creative innovation of the Government of Mexico City. 7

8 New intermediaries A new generation of intermediaries (e.g. the media, NGOs and CSOs) that benefit from capacity building, sensitization and empowerment can help turning data into valuable and useful information for people, including the poor and most vulnerable. School of Data works to empower civil society organization, journalists and citizens with the skills they need to use data effectively. 8

9 Advocacy organizations Civil society organizations and think tanks can make effective use of data for evidence-based advocacy. The Anti Corruption Action Center comprises activists who use data to investigate and document cases of corruption. 9

10 Civic technologists The use of OGD and technology can help build tools for inclusive and sustainable societies. An international network of organizations who believe that digital technology opens new channels for citizens to more meaningfully engage in the public sphere and have a positive impact on their communities. 10

11 Start-ups and innovators Dedicated incubation programmes that foster innovation, economic growth and job creation support the commercial uptake of ODG reuse. Is an international network of organizations that seek to study the use and impact of open data. 11
