4 GLOBAL GOALS AND Volunteerism UN Secretary General Synthesis Report (2014) Volunteerism is a cross-cutting means of implementation which can help to expand and mobilize constituencies and to engage people in national planning and implementation for SDGs and ground the new agenda at a national and local level and encourage new areas of interaction between governments and people for concrete and scalable actions. 4

6 Developing a single, sustainable development agenda is critical.... Without environmental sustainability, we cannot end poverty; the poor are too deeply affected by natural disasters and too dependent on deteriorating oceans, forests and soils. 18 Civil society organisations commit to the SDGs The SDGs are ambitious and business as usual will not be enough. Achieving the goals will require all stakeholders to play their part governments, civil society and business and to collaborate as never before. We as Civil Society recognise our responsibility to play a leadership role.
