8 Building Personal Brand on Social Sites Keep your profile current Take the time to build a complete profile Use your Elevator speech in your summary Be sure to align your profile with your professional objectives and educate others to you Utilize networking tools to better understand the people around you Include a headshot it doesn t have to be professionally taken, but it should look professional Links your website or professional blog. Make sure content in all links is something you would want potential employers to see Embrace the space remember this may be the first and only thing employers may see about you!
9 Elevator Pitch Your Advertisement What if you found yourself alone in an elevator with the one person that could determine whether you were hired at a company? How would you utilize the brief moment of undivided attention to market yourself and your skills to this person? While you may never find yourself in an actual elevator, you will find that there are times that having a very short, direct speech about what you have to offer will be the advantage you need to be heard. To ensure you are ready its important to develop your Elevator Pitch before you are in that situation! Key Things to Consider when writing your Elevator Pitch: Is it longer than 30 seconds? Don t try to tell it all this just starts a dialogue Are you selling your experience or your solution? What is your value proposition What makes you unique What questions do you want someone to ask? Is it understandable to others outside your LOB/Industry/Profession Do you include acronyms Are you using highly technical terms Is it appropriate for a wide audience
10 Identify your own Board of Directors Identify a list of key stakeholders and other interested parties with a vested interest in YOU, inc. Consider a broad set of directors who know you well and will see you in various settings Create your board and key stakeholder network Friends, Neighbors, Relatives, Suppliers/Customers Co-workers, Business/Professional Associates Alumni, Religious Affiliation Contacts Community Political Contacts, Personal Business (Banker, Broker, Agents) Organizations, Spouse / Partner Network Make contact with them regarding your goals and expectations share with them your development focus and career aspirations. Over communicate to your network but don t over do it Use technology but hand written notes still have more meaning

Someone you trust and respect Meet on a regular basis to learn from his/her experiences It is incumbent upon today s Top Leaders to leave a legacy of future talent Current leaders must teach, mentor, and be a role model for others to learn what it takes to succeed.
