2 LIFE DESIGN is a revolutionary new approach to traditional, out-dated Employee Assistant Programmes. Uniquely fusing the professions of counselling and coaching, it addresses many of the people problems faced by employers in our fast-paced, ever-changing world. At this time everyone is suffering as a consequence. Morale drops, productivity falls, sickness levels increase and unhealthy staff turnover can stress even the best of teams.

New Leaf s Founder, Becky Wright, is a highly experienced psychotherapist and fully accredited member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). She is a life coach and has served on the BACP executive board for coaching. Since 1992 New Leaf has grown to include a team of counsellors and life coaches who work closely with Becky to deliver the New Leaf Life Design service. New Leaf has excellent feedback from clients over many years and a proven properly evaluated record of supporting local businesses, large and small.

4 PREVENTION Having listened to the companies and individuals we work with, we have produced a completely new type of package for SMEs and microproviders called LIFE DESIGN. It offers an alternative route, one that prevents the ups and downs that reactive responses inevitably deliver, and where the company and individual don t have to suffer before action is taken. LIFE DESIGN will help stabilise your workplace and bring with it real financial benefits and a much improved working environment for all. WHAT IS LIFE DESIGN? Traditionally, a distinction has been made between counselling and coaching that has, for the most part, meant that clients are treated very differently, depending which service they choose. Having recognised that the needs of our clients have changed, it was time to design something for the problems, situations and pressures that sit around today s new society and its demands. We cannot hide from the fact that the world is changing and we are changing with it; LIFE DESIGN is an acknowledgment of the need for a much more integrated and holistic form of therapy, which brings a combination of the two disciplines into a structured and carefully devised approach to finding solutions. Integrating counselling and coaching in a very new way, LIFE DESIGN offers a creative platform to help your employees achieve their goals and/or specific desired improvements.

One in five employees suffer from work-related stress each year The Chartered Institute for Professional Development (CIPD) found that in 2015, absence cost employers an average of 554 for each employee per year Absenteeism amounts to an estimated annual cost of 13 billion in the UK economy Presenteeism, where employees attend work when they are unwell, is reported to have increased to 31% in 2015 (CIPD) In a recent analysis of counselling participants who attended New Leaf, 93% said their reactions to the sessions were very good and 90% said they found the sessions very useful. 100% said they would recommend the sessions to a friend or colleague

6 THE PROBLEMS OF EMPLOYMENT FOR SMALL BUSINESSES Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), companies with between 1 and 249 employees, make up over 99 per cent of UK private sector businesses. Their varied circumstances bring an equally wide range of health and wellbeing challenges. Recent data on the health of the UK workforce has suggested that almost one in every three employees has at least one long-term health condition. The significant proportion of SME employees who fall onto disability welfare, without first having a period of sickness absence, is indicative of the particular issues faced within SMEs. Both absence and presenteeism (attending work whilst sick) represent significant direct financial costs to businesses, and these may be exaggerated in smaller businesses due to an inability to compensate for, or cover, staff who are unwell. This can lead to lost business and operational difficulties, including an inability to meet customer expectations.
