Goods Imported by Post. Goods imported by post other than in the course of trade. 26. (1) twithstanding any other provision of this Act, when goods are imported into Gibraltar through the post, other than in the course of trade, and a declaration form or label is affixed to the package in accordance with the postal regulations, such goods may, on payment to a customs officer of any duty thereon, be delivered to the consignee. (2) The particulars of contents and value entered on such declaration form or label and signed by the sender may, subject to verification by a customs officer, be accepted for the purpose of assessing any duty payable. It can be seen that the law does not state any restriction on delivery, within the legal proviso that prior to delivery, a declaration is effected to an officer of customs, allowing for inspection and thus subsequent collection of duty if the commodity does attract the said duty at its applicable rate. On a practical level, the law is covering for a person to perform that procedure at the RGPO Parcel Post office and retrieve the goods themselves, once it has been finalised.
