By intelligently optimising flow characteristics and noise of the pumps the overall level of the system could be reduced to approximately 55 db. Redundant Construction Manual Emergency Operation In case of malfunction of the control board, manual emergency operation ensure continual permeate production until the system can be repaired. Motor valves allow an easy start of single stage dialysis mode if a stage fails. Use of High Performance Synthetic Materials With their high level of purity, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and polypropylene natural (PP-N) have proven themselves in the chemical, pharmaceutical and semi-conductor industries. Because of their extremely smooth inner surfaces (roughness Ra < 0.5 µm) and the water repelling lotus effect, the formation of bio-films is made more difficult. Free from corrosion and the absence of additives and plasticizers, the machine is ensured a long life with consistent and excellent quality throughout the entire service life. The materials used are conform with FDA requirements and USP class VI tested. BCF Welding Technology The special bead and crevice free welding technology (BCF ) allows for a smooth and homogenous connection, free of impurities and without changes in materials. Because of the fully automated control from the welding process a weld surface quality of Ra < 0.5 µm is achieved without rework. 3 Hot Water Sanitisation Low-Energy-Module Through the use of low pressure polyamide membranes, energy savings of more than 25% can be achieved. Intelligent Water- Saving Technology Through unique water-saving technology the osmosis automatically adjusts its potable water consumption to match the current dialysis workload. Because of continuous remote monitoring included in the maintenance and monitoring contract and the related adjustment of operation parameters, water consumption can be below 250 litres of potable water for each dialysis. Phoenix OneDS+ FH Hot Water Sanitisation with Instant Water Heater In conjunction with the Phoenix Multi- Loop loop system with dead zone-free dialysis machine connections, a hot water sanitisation of the pipeline system can be achieved independently of the dialysis machine. Drawing heated permeate from the system is not necessary. The Phoenix OneDS+ FH system is working efficiently and economically with an instant water heater, as only the ring content is heated. Phoenix OneDS+ Hot Water Sanitisation with Tank For integrated hot water sanitisation, including the dialysis machine, a reservoir (tank) is interposed in the permeate system. The Phoenix OneDS+ system is characterized by an excellent energy balance, because no storage of the permeate takes place and the tank level is variably adjusted to the center size. The tank is sterile, vented to prevent entry of bacteria from the air. The water treatment systems of the Phoenix OneDS + family are approved as class IIb medical products in accordance with EC MDD-Medical Devices Directive. 3

4 Optimisation of Water Treatment Simple Operation A user-friendly touch screen monitor contains straight forward information required for each task. Screens are easy to understand in plain text, thus making the operation easier and reducing the risk of operating errors. The interfaces to the water treatment systems are greatly simplified, whether for nursing and medical staff or dialysis technicians. Cost Effective Remote Access Through remote access, reliable error analysis, parameter settings, program changes or a complete software update can be accomplished quickly and without expensive on-site service. Through professional error analysis quick support for the operator is possible. Any necessary service calls can be planned with the correct replacement parts. Through the use of the Internet, Nipro service and authorized users can remotely access the system at any time from any location, providing a fast and efficient service. Regular Monitoring All relevant design parameters of water treatment systems are regularly read, recorded and evaluated in the Nipro internal monitoring system. The operation of the system is continiously optimized. This ensures the stable operation of the system and reduces energy and water consumption to a minimum. Any malfunctions are detected early. All necessary steps can be taken in time and, above all planned. Once a year, a quality report with a clear presentation of all relevant system parameters is created. 6 Phoenix Multi-Loop Dead zone-free permeate supply to the dialysis machine Phoenix Multi-Loop Starting from the main ring line (made of PVDF) the permeate supply is achieved through individual loops. Up to 6 dialysis machines can be connected to the loop. Through the ring line system up to the dialysis machine, the connection lines maintain a permanent high speed flow, even when the dialysis machine is turned off, due to the line s small diameter. This effectively prevents bio-film formation. An optional hot water sanitisation with continuous-flow heater can easily and cost-efficiently be placed, regardless of the dialysis machines and will work with the hot water sanitisation system Phoenix OneDS+ FH.
