Working Principle of Snap-Action Thermostat A snap-action thermostat is a bimetal thermal protector. The bimetal disc will snap instantly when subjected to certain temperature to cause quick switching action of contacts via mechanical function and to interrupt or complete a circuit. The device has the dvantages of fixed working temperature needing no adjustment, reliable and quick action, minimal arcing, and long service life. 4

7 Temperature Characteristics of Snap-Action Thermostat According to different temperature actuation characteristics, there are 4 operating types as follows: Normal type: OPEN temperature higher than CLOSE temperature. K type: CLOSE temperature higher than OPEN temperature. Manual reset type: OPEN on temperature RISE and it won t be able to reset after opening without manual help. One-shot type: OPEN on temperature RISE and it won t be able to reset after opening. Symbol Explaining OT: Operating temperature, the higher value of OPEN and CLOSE temperatures. Tmax: Heat-resistant temperature. Diff: Difference between the nominal OPEN and CLOSE temperatures. Tr: Reset temperature, the lower value of the nominal OPEN or CLOSE temperature. 5

KSD301 Series (1/2 ) KSD301 series snap-action thermostat is a bimetal thermal protector (1/2 disc). It is of single-pole single-throw structure and works under resistive load.

11 KSD301 Series (1/2 ) KSD301 series snap-action thermostat is a bimetal thermal protector (1/2 disc). It is of single-pole single-throw structure and works under resistive load. KSD301 series is in wide use in a great variety of compact type home appliances, such as coffee makers, water dispensers, toasters, microwave ovens, electric pads and portable iceboxes, etc., to provide temperature control or temperature protection. According to different structures and service purposes, KSD301 series is divided into 7 sub series as: KSD301, KSD301-V, KSD301-G, KSD301-R, KSD301-R-G, KSD301-U-V and KSD301-U-G. 15 KSD303 Series KSD303 series snap-action defrost thermostat is a kind of miniature waterproof bimetal thermal protector. It is of single-pole single-throw structure and works under resistive load. Thermostat is enveloped in cold-resistant and flame-retardant plastic tube or sealing gum for possible underwater applications. The product series is widely used as heating compensated switch or automatic defrosting control switch in air-cooling frostless refrigerators. 20 Thermal Cut-Offs Products The TCO responds to temperature by interrupting an electrical circuit when the operating and/or environmental temperature exceeds the thermal rating of the fuse. This is accomplished when the organic pellet experiences a phase change, allowing the spring activated contact to permanently open the circuit. 23 Thermal Cut-Offs Selection of Temperature Rating To maximize product life, we suggest a 30 C minimum differential between operating ambient temperature at the TCO location and your selected Rated Functioning Temperature. Under no conditions should the TCO be exposed to a continuous normal ambient temperature in excess of 200 C. Note: Only proper testing of the above will help you in determining the selected TCO s suitability within the application. Tf = Rated Functioning Temperature The temperature of the Thermal Cut-off which causes it to change its state of conductivity with a detection current up to 10 ma as the only load. Under the UL/IEC standards the tolerance is+0 C, -10 C Th = Holding Temperature The maximum temperature of the Thermal Cut-off at which it will not change its state of conductivity for 168 hours while conducting its rated voltage. It is called Th for short by UL and called Tc by IEC/VDE. Tm = Maximum Temperate Limit The temperature of the Thermal Cut-off, up to which the mechanical and electrical properties of the Thermal Cut-off, having changed its state of conductivity, will not be impaired for 10 minutes. 21
