3 Foreword GB/T 1040 Plastics - Determination of tensile properties consists of the following five parts: - Part 1: General principles; - Part 2: Test conditions for moulding and extrusion plastics; - Part 3: Test Conditions for Films and Sheets; - Part 4: Test conditions for isotropic and orthotropic fibre-reinforced plastic composites; - Part 5: Test conditions for unidirectional fibre-reinforced plastic composites. This Part is the second part of GB/T This Part is identical with ISO 527-2:1993 Plastics - Determination of tensile Properties - Part 2: Test conditions for moulding and extrusion plastics (English version). For easy use, this Part makes the following editorial changes: a) modified this international standard to this standard or GB/T 1040 ; modified this Part of ISO 527 to this Part of GB/T 1040 or this Part ; b) deleted the foreword of ISO 527-2:1993; c) added the foreword of this Part; d) added note after sub-clause 1.3; e) used corresponding China national standards which are corresponding to the identically-used this document to replace two international standards listed in Normative references ; f) used decimal point. to replace, which was used as decimal point in the international standard. This Part together with other parts jointly replace GB/T Plastics - Determination of tensile properties and GB/T Plastics - Determination of tensile properties by use of small specimens. Compared with GB/T Plastics - Determination of tensile properties, the main changes in technical content in this Part are as follows: Page 3 of 11

4 - modified standard s name; added table of contents, foreword; - added Principle, Number of test specimens, Conditioning, Precision and Annex A; - modified Main content and application scope to Scope ; modified References to Normative references ; modified Terms to Definitions ; - expanded the application scope; - modified the standard test specimen types from four (I, II, III, IV) to 1A, 1B; - included I types (I1, I2) of small test specimen and II types (II1, II2) in GB/T as normative Annex A into this Part; respectively modified the types to 1BA, 1BB, 5A, 5B; the size of test specimen before and after modification shall be exactly same; - added the content included in the test report. Annex A of this Part is normative. This Part was proposed by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association. This Part shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee on Plastic of Standardization Administration of China (TC 15 / SC 4). 5 Plastics - Determination of tensile properties - Part 2: Test conditions for moulding and extrusion plastics 1 Scope 1.1 This Part of GB/T 1040 specifies the test conditions for determining the tensile properties of moulding and extrusion plastics, based upon the general principles given in the first part. 1.2 The methods are selectively suitable for use with the following range of materials: - rigid and semi-rigid thermoplastics moulding, extrusion and cast materials, including compounds filled and reinforced by e.g. short fibres, small rods, plates or granules but excluding textile fibres in addition to unfilled types; - rigid and semi-rigid thermosetting moulding and cast materials, including filled and reinforced compounds but excluding textile fibres as reinforcement; - thermotropic liquid crystal polymers. The methods are not suitable for use with materials reinforced by textile fibres with rigid cellular materials or sandwich structures containing cellular material. 1.3 The methods are applied using specimens which may be either moulded to the chosen dimensions or machined, cut or punched from injection - or compression-moulded plates. The multipurpose test specimen is preferred (see ISO 3167:1993, Plastics - Multipurpose test specimens). NOTE ISO 3167:1993 has been replaced by ISO 3167: Normative references The following standards contain the provisions which, through reference in this Part of GB/T 1040, constitute the provisions of this Part. For dated references, subsequent amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to this Part. However, the parties who enter into agreement based on this Part are encouraged to investigate whether the latest versions of these documents are applicable.
