Ingestion: The toxicological properties of this substance have not yet been fully investigated. Although it is a metal carbonyl, no evidence has been found to prove that Molybdenum hexacarbonyl is toxic. The toxicity of metal carbonyls is determined primarily by the toxicity of the metal and the volatility and the instability of the compound. There are few reports of acute toxicity in humans from ingestion of Molybdenum and Molybdenum metal is not considered toxic. Furthermore, Molybdenum hexacarbonyl is a stable crystalline solid and not volatile. Chronic Potential Health Effects: Inhalation: Prolonged or repeated inhalation may cause pneumoconiosis, pulmonary edema. It may also weakness, headache, joint and muscle pain, and hand tremors. Ingestion: No information was found for Molybdenum hexacarbonyl. However, prolonged or repeated ingestion of Molybdenum (Molybdenum poisoning) may cause gastroinestinal tract disturbances, diarrhea, anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, loss of appetite/anorexia, listlessness, fatigue, abnormal bone growth, pain in the joints of the knees, and can affect the liver, kidneys, spleen.
