1 DOT-C10 Conventional Non-Tracking Tack Coats such as Hard 0 Pen Base Binder present a number of problems in the field. The Zero Pen approach gives a product that is Trackless, with the Downside that it has Zero Ductility, Zero Elastic Recovery & Zero Material Response in MSCR testing. This makes these products Highly Susceptible to Cracking. When it comes to Non-Tracking Tack Coats, your options are limited. At least, they were. DOT-C10 utilizes Bio-Based polymer action to add Elastic Recovery, Measured Material Response in MSCR testing and Ductility to the base binder. Targeted Pen values are typically around 30.
2 DOT-C10 Key Properties Cures instantly - NO Tracking Single Green Chemistry Additive Sets/cures instantly (10 sec). Short Blend Time - NO High Shear Mill Drive on time as little as 10 minutes with NO tracking. Lower viscosity than base PG64-22 allows precise control of spray rate. Anti-strip characteristics ensure an active bond with superior moisture resistance. Straight Run PG Base Binder Simple to Manufacture Product Storage Life Over 2 Years Good balance between bond strength and flexibility. High ductility and elastic recovery without glassy hardness. When Paper tissue was pressed on surface sprayed with DOT-C10 10 seconds after application, There was No pickup of binder. Other Applications include: General Purpose Tack Coat Bond Coat for OGFC and Bonded Ultra Thin Overlays Joint Bonding Adhesive
3 How It Works Tack Coats and Bond Coats work by promoting Adhesion between the new Pavement Surface and the Existing Pavement Surface. DOT-C10 contains Active Adhesion Promotion, an Anti-Strip technology, that promotes wetting of the Existing Pavement Surface. This ensures proper Chemical and Mechanical Bond Formation regardless of the presence of residual amounts of dust and moisture. The Trackless behavior of asphalt treated with DOT-C10 is accomplished through modification of the Softening Point in the Base Binder to approximately 260 F. As DOT-C10 is applied at temperatures of F, it becomes dry to the touch after seconds and can be Driven On or Paved Upon in Minutes. This Coating is Waterproof, Flexible and effectively Seals the surface from Moisture during the interim between Milling & Paving. High application rates over Longitudinal Joint distresses after Milling can mitigate reflection of those stresses to the surface of the overlay, as in Illinois Joint Sealant Program. DOT-C10 can be easily applied with a Standard Asphalt Distributor 1. The Rotational Viscosity of the Base PG Binder is reduced 30% to 50% with the Additive use During Blending. With mixing temperatures between F, the Additive is uniformly dispersed into the Binder, giving a Product that is very Stable. [1] Consult your Manufacturer for guidance on Operational Procedures for Hot Asphalt Cement distribution & clean out (suck back).
4 Field Tests Application Rates of DOT-C10 as low as 0.03 gallons/yd. 2 yield a product with Bond Strength exceeding DOT criteria. An independent evaluation showed that DOT-C10 Application Rate of 0.04 gallons/yd. 2 Maximized the capabilities of the Load Frame, and the underlying substrate broke before the bond did. Initial testing of this Product was for Bond Coat applications using Thin Lift Overlays and OGFC wear courses that normally utilize Spray Pavers. The DOT-C10 was applied at a rate of 0.12 gallons/yd. 2 using a Typical Asphalt Distributor. Surfactant Chemistry used in Asphalt Emulsions has adverse Environmental impacts on Aquatic Life, Birds and Bees. Water Emulsions take more Time, Fuel and Resources due to imperfect Application and Residuum Rates. Save Fuel and Time with DOT-C10 as the Distributor covers over 40% more area with the same volume, all without using Water-Based Emulsions.
