The results revealed that percentage of AN[ colonization ranged from %. Colonization by five J\M fungi increased plant height, diameter, total fresh weight, total dry weight and total length root; shoot N, P, K, Ca and Mg content of the seedlings; and survival rates at lso days after transplantation. G/0111us clanon was more effective in improving nutrient content and plant growth of A. scbolaris than G. decipiens, G. c/ , Glovms sp. ZEJ\ and Glornus sp. J\CJ\. Plantation on Various Peat Swamp Forests in Indonesia Journal of Forestry Research, Vol.4, No.2, 2007, pp The objective of this study was to analyze the growth of ramin plantation on various sites. The study revealed that ramin annual increment varied across sites and was determined by the site characteristic. Ramin grew better in deep peat soil (3-4 m in depth) and under moderate shading (SS - 60%). The highest early height growth (S2.27cm/year) was found in Sci Bakau, West Kalimantan. The biggest early diameter growth (0.73 cm/year) was found in Rokan Hilir, Riau. Keywords: Early growth, site characteristics, peatswamp forests, peat depth, shading UDC (ODC) 630*81 Krisdianto (Forest Products Research and Development Center) Color Differences of Pine and Eucalypr Wood Measured by Microflash-200"' Journal of Forestry Research, Vol.4, No.2, 2007, pp The objective of this study was to translate interpretation of wood color by human eye into mathematical values so that scientific measurement of wood color can be studied. Using 10 species of pine and 10 species of eucalypts, couected from Wood Collection of Creswick Forestry Department, wood colors were measured usingmicroflash-200'" in CIE standard in dry condition. The results showed that pine and eucalypts family had different average of L *,a* and b* values; and pine group was more yellow than eucalyptgroup. Keywords: Wood color, perception, measurement, Microflash-2000'" CIE standard, pine, eucalypts

Damayanti (Forest Products Research and Development Center) Anatomical Properties and Fiber Dimension of Prickly Acacia (Acacia nilotica L.) from Baluran National Park Journal of Forestry Research, Vol.4, No.2, 2007, pp The objective of this study was to observe the anatomical properties and fiber dimensions of Acacia 11i/otica (prickly acacia or nilotica); and discuss the possible utilization of nilotica timber. The results showed that nilotica timber had a dark brown heartwood and a reddish brown sapwood. The denser cell wall showed streaked-in tangential surfaces. The length of wood fiber decreased from pith toward periphery. Longitudinally, higher stem has shorter fiber. Nilotica has second class qualiry of fiber, it is not recommended for construction material, but it is suitable for carved and turnery products; charcoal and fuel wood. Keywords: Acacia 11ilotica, wood anatomy, fiber, utilization UDC (ODC) 630* (594.53) Kalima T. and T. Setyawati (Forest and Nature Conservation Research and Development Center) An Overview on the Conservation Status of Mersawa (A11isoptera costata Korth.) in Java Journal of Forestry Research, Vol.4, No.2, 2007, pp This short note provided information regarding potential and natural distribution of mersatua (Anisoptera costata Korth.) in the wild. The observation was conducted in Leuweung Saocang Nature Reserve (LSNR), Java, Indonesia. Considering there was only one mersatua tree found in an area of ha in LSNR, we believed this species faces a serious threat of extinction. This study suggested a serious action for in-situ and ex-situ conservation of A. costata. Keywords: In-situ and ex-situ conservation, extinction, Dipterocarpaceae
