Faculty of Business, Law and Sport Module Catalogue Study Abroad Students Semester two 2017/2018

Module Code: BS1970 Module Name: Introduction To Event Operations Level: Level 4 This module will begin to equip students with the practical skills and knowledge needed to deliver safe and successful events. The module will explore the creative process of designing events, staging, audio visual equipment and event production techniques. Students will explore international approaches to event design and they will begin to identify common event hazards and UK legislation which affects a variety of planned events. Risk management methods, health and safety directives and sustainability guidelines will be investigated so that students begin to develop the skills and knowledge required to deliver live events. Sports Business and Marketing 001: Project Output (Event Plan) 100%

Module Code: BS2948 Module Name: Venue Management Level: Level 5 A large number of events are undertaken in fixed locations such as purpose built event venues and hotels but also in sporting and academic complexes as well as an ever growing list of unique venues. Consequently, there is extensive opportunity for event managers to secure venue based employment. The management of these venues requires considerable knowledge and skills in addition to those of event design and production. This module will provide a firm grounding in venue management. Issues of venue design, spatial awareness and location will be considered, as will operational issues such as pricing and yield management, contracts, supplier selection, customer service delivery and venue marketing. Legal aspects of venue and event management, such as health and safety licensing, will also be covered. Venue management is an important career path within the event management industry and this module will provide a firm grounding in the challenges arising when guiding and working with event planners. Joint 001: Oral Assessment And Presentation 100%

Module Code: BS2971 Module Name: Sports And Mega Events Level: Level 5 Sporting and mega events have specific characteristics and tremendous global significance and these themes will form the basis for this module. Specifically students will critically analyse the bidding process, how major events are funded and the relationship between these events and the media. Legacy and sport tourism will be discussed and students will investigate large scale operations including the complexities of crowd management. Joint Sports Business and Marketing 001: Essay (Maximum 4,500 Words) 100% B 17/18 S2

Module Code: BS3969 Module Name: Festivals And Cultural Events Level: Level 6 The concept of culture is at the heart of this module and as such, it will be analyzed and critically evaluated with reference to key theories and international case studies. The socially constructed concept of culture will be explored in relation to the arts, heritage and tourism. As culture is clearly founded on the notion of people, the social, economic and political significance of cultural events will be closely examined. In many cases, these features can also be related to the environmental context and significance in which an event is situated. 001: Report 100%
