Lessons Learnt Lack of Demonstration Units -For Skill Development training we need to establish Scientific on-farm Demonstration Units Strengthening Follow-up & Feedback -Budget constraint and lack of coordination between agencies
TECHNOLOGIES IDENTIFIED PIGGERY UNIT There is high potential for piglet production unit and piggery units for meat purpose. KVK Hassan instrumental in establishing > 25 units so far To demonstrate model piggery unit for NREGA, there is a need to establish model piggery unit that would Serve as a pilot Unit Be used for practical training and skill development For Hands on training for handling and maintenance
TECHNOLOGIES IDENTIFIED VEGETABLE SEED PRODUCTION Seed Production and seedling production is highly profitable venture in Belur and Hassan Taluks. Model Nursery unit established under National Horticulture Mission is sufficient to cater the needs of skill training. However seed packing and processing unit is required to cater the need. This pilot plant is essential because individual farmers can not establish processing plant. This will serve as pilot plant for seed producers This will used for practical training
Technologies Identified CUSTOM HIRE CENTRE Use of agricultural machinery during the last decades has increased at a faster rate. Land holding is still a serious limitation in the mechanization. Under these circumstances the role of custom higher centre for sustainable agriculture and economy will be more important. To demonstrate such model for NREGA, there is a need to establish model custom hire centre for mechanization. This will serve as pilot plant This will used for practical training and skill development Hands on training for Repair and maintenance
KVK, GULBARGA, KARNATAKA ACHIEVEMENTS Establishment of vermicompost units - small scale 400 units producing 2000 tons - medium scale 150 units producing 7500 tons - large scale units 20 units producing 4000 tons Formation of organic farmers club in three taluks - Aland-500 members - Afzalpur- 280 members - Chittapur 300 members Formation of Neem clubs-10 clubs in different taluks. - Collection of neem seeds. -Preparation of neem powder. -Preparation of NSKE. 20 tons of neem seeds were collected and used as fertilizers and also to prepare NSKE for pest control.
KVK, GULBARGA, KARNATAKA ACHIEVEMENTS Training on bio fertilizers and bio agents Preparations - The farmers of all clubs are using Rhizobium and PSB for seed treatment for pulses. - 5 farmers are producing the Ha.NPV and selling for other farmers and earning about Rs.5000/ month. - Mass multiplication of Trichoderma- 50 members. Seed production training and demonstrations
Technical strength of KVK in Organic farming and Seed production. 1.Production of compost using compost culture. 2.Vermitechonology. 3.Seed treatment with bio fertilizers. 4.Production of Bio- agents for managing the pests. Wilt Pod borer Trichoderma Ha.NPV
Technical strength of KVK in Organic farming and Seed production. 5. Production of botanicals. Neem seed kernal extract (5%). Chilli+Garlic Extract Neem powder. 6. Post harvest technologies for pulses. Cleaning and grading of pulses. Packing. Preparation of papads. 7. Seed production in pulses. 8. Establishment 20 bio-digester units for pest and disease management through plant extracts.
KVK, DINDIGUL, TAMIL NADU TECHNOLOGICAL COMPONENTS PROPOSED
ESTABLISHMENT OF COMMUNITY NURSERY ACHIEVEMENTS 17 training courses on community nursery - 75 SHG -under the trainer trainee concept with the women cell members. 25 training courses on community nursery with the assistance of DRDA for 720 beneficiaries Two Self Help Group at Michealpalayam had started a nursery in the year 2006-Selling one lakh seedlings per year (Neem, Tamarind, Amla, Silk Cotton). 25 Success stories A group of 10 ladies formed a group named Krishi Sahayi Last season they have transplanted paddy in an area of 50 acres They are earning Rs. 3500/- per month The group has undertaken harvesting in an area of 75 acres earning Rs. 150/hr.
Helical Blade Puddler for effective land preparation Technology developed by Kerala Agricultural University Saves around 40 per cent diesel and about 50 per cent time KVK demonstrated the technology successfully and 4 farmers are currently utilizing the technology
COCONUT CLIMBERS Acute shortage of labour to do coconut harvesting necessitate youth trained in operating coconut climbing machinery TNAU Model RAIDCO Model 15 persons, including ladies, have undergone trainings from KVK They are now employing the technology in farmers fields
Udyanamitra Garden Transplanter Transplanting all categories of vegetable seedlings without transplanting shock. Technology was assessed and refined by the KVK Currently 20 farmers use this technology under field conditions
POST HOLE DIGGER KVK has already demonstrated the technology to 10 farmers
BUND FORMER Bunds with 30 cm width and depth Attached with tractor Suitable for vegetables and tapioca
CONSTRAINTS. Difficulty in mobilizing men youth as they are involved in other remunerative activities like sand mining Small size of holdings of farmers in Malappuram District Unsuitability of machineries for special situations Confusion regarding the ownership and management of machineries
