Naturally resistant: Werzalit s wood material The cladding is the face of your structure. And so that it doesn t suffer the ravages of wind, weather and extreme temperatures, it needs special protection. This in turn makes huge demands on construction materials: they need to be weather-resistant, light-fast and impact-resistant. WERZALIT combines all these qualities in one material. Our patented manufacturing process makes this possible - a process that combines the natural qualities of native deciduous and coniferous trees obtained from sustainable forestry sources with the resistance of top quality resins. The result is a high-density wood material evenly structured throughout, which is exceptionally resistant to extreme weather conditions and mechanical stress. To ensure that WERZALIT products maintain their properties, they undergo endurance testing - under the toughest conditions. In the case of out cladding profiles, this means testing in the laboratory and at out in-house outdoor weathering facilities for the effects of extreme sunlight and extreme tropical humidity. It s your guarantee that WERZALIT cladding honors it promises for a very long time.

General Description Engineered for Protection and Beauty For the first time, materials designed to protect high rise buildings from the extremes of wind and driving rain are incorporated in a traditionally-styled residential cladding system Styled to match traditional wood lap siding, these panels interlock in a precision tongue-and-groove design, complete with a closed cell foam gasket system to turn away wind, air and water infiltration to a degree not matched by natural wood or any commodity siding product. Unique Gasket System Offers Unsurpassed Weather Resistance And Reduced Air Infiltration Overlapping panels fit together with a tongue-and-groove design. A factoryinstalled compressible gasket keeps even the nastiest weather outside where it belongs Manufactured With Protection To The Core More resistant than natural wood or hardwood, stronger than cement board... will not warp, buckle or check, blister, flake or peel. Superior damage protection from hail, ice and wear. Perfect Joints Built Right In Every panel comes with a built-in lap joint to ensure a finished look that reduces unsightly gaps and weather infiltration. Trim Completes The Package Our cladding system can be combined with wood or aluminum conventional trims or with Werzalit factory pre-finished trim systems to make a complete exterior package. The WAGS trim systems use compressible foam gasket to reduce air infiltration at window, door and other openings. 3

Panel Dimensions Werzalit panels are engineered to accommodate expansion and contraction due to seasonal effects of temperature and humidity on its wood core. Panel ends are routed to form a shiplap end joint. It is not necessary for panel joints to end over a stud. NOTE: 1. The recommended gap between shiplap panel ends is 1/8 for temperate, cold or arid climates and 3/16 for tropical climates. 2. Panels installed in runs up to 36 feet long may be butted if normal expansion is provided at the end of the runs. 3. Joints up to 3/8 provide no technical problem, but may be unsightly. 4. To give the best appearance, gap spacing should be uniform throughout the job. 5. Work should be planned to avoid an excessive number of joints in conspicuous locations or an unsightly pattern of joints. 5

Cladding Application - General CLADDING INSTALLATION All Werzalit cladding and accessory installation shall be in accordance with approved practice and local building codes. STORAGE Cladding must be stored in a clean, dry area out of the weather and away from any damaging activity. All cladding bundles should be stored above ground on level blocking allowing ample space for air circulation. Covering should be used to protect panels from the elements during exterior storage. Wet boards should be removed from bundles to allow them to acclimatize prior to installation (stand boards on edge for several days, allowing air circulation on all sides). WALL SURFACE EXTENSION Existing wall surfaces must provide a flat plane for proper installation of Werzalit cladding. Irregular and unlevel wall surfaces should be brought to the attention of the project supervisor. CUTTING All Werzalit architectural products are easily installed with ordinary carpentry tools. When power sawing, a sharp carbide tipped saw blade should be used. Exposed edges of all cross cuts and cut-outs should be touched up with a top quality exterior color matched coating. NOTE: Always cut into the finished surface! SUPPORT FRAMING Werzalit cladding and accessories require a supporting framework with a maximum spacing of 2-0 O. C. All sub-frame construction or support framing shall be no less then 5/8 thick, securely anchored and properly aligned to provide a flat plane for the cladding attachment. WALL PROTECTION An exterior moisture retarder shall be applied over the construction wall surface. Wall openings for windows, doors, louvers, etc. should be flashed according to the manufacturers instructions and good building practice to prevent moisture penetration between the fixture and the rough wall opening. LOW COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH SHEATHING MATERIALS Werzalit can be installed over low compressive sheathing such as plastic foam or foil faced materials, providing that the following conditions are met: 1. Cladding must be fastened through the sheathing, securely into the framing material. 2. The starter rail must be attached directly to the framing member, not foam sheathing. 3. Care must be taken not to overdrive cladding fasteners, or sheathing may be damaged by compression and wall surface may be uneven. EXTRUSION ACCESSORIES Install all extrusions as called by the architect. All extrusions shall be positioned plumb and level assuring proper alignment of cladding panels with all outline edges. PANEL PLACEMENT Place panels firmly together with tongue and groove mating fully. Panels can be seated fully by tapping into position with the end of a hammer handle. Before securing into position, make sure allowance has been made for expansion and contraction. Panel ends can be placed at random or placed in a preplanned pattern. EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION OF PANELS Werzalit has provided an engineered expansion and contraction system for its architectural panels. This allows the panel to work with climatic changes and allows the panel to be straight and smooth. For further details see page 8. FASTENING 1. When fixing Werzalit panels directly to wood framing, use stainless steel fasteners, with a minimum ¾ penetration into framing or solid sheathing. For application over sheathing or insulation board, fastener size and length shall be adequate to support panels and provide sufficient penetration (min. ¾ ) into the framing material. 2. Whether by hand or power driven, a snug contact with the panel will secure installation. In all cases, avoid overdriving fasteners whereas this will hinder lateral movement of Werzalit panels. Fasteners shall be inserted at right angles to the panel to assure that fastener head is flush to the surface allowing next panel to be seated properly on tongue. NOTE: When power nailing use a finishing nail gun with air pressure not to exceed 85 psi Fasteners recommended by Werzalit of America, Inc. are a #7 stainless steel finish screw similar to those manufactured by Swan Secure, Inc.. Stainless steel nail fastener, ring-shank 8d, length to be determined by the installing contractor. TOUCH UP PAINT 1. Color matched touch-up paint is provided by manufacturer. All field cut ends and cut outs must be painted by the installing contractor. 2. When Werzalit of America, Inc. siding is installed against wood or synthetic trim it is recommended the exposed end of the siding board be field painted by the installing contractor before installation. 3. Weather caulking should be used to cover the expansion gap between the siding and the trim material. Color matched touch-up paint should be used to hide the caulking material. Werzalit of America, Inc. is a manufacturer of building materials and does not practice architecture or engineering. The installation procedures in this bulletin are based on principles and materials that have provided satisfactory performance with our product under normal conditions. Werzalit of America, Inc. will not be responsible for the consequences of any deviations from these recommendations, unless made with its prior written approval. Werzalit of America, Inc. reserves the right to void the warranty on its product if it s installation recommendations are not followed. 6

Typical Horizontal Installation This diagram shows a typical installation of horizontal cladding, numbered in the normal sequence of operations. Note that corner posts, either aluminum or wood, are required for proper installation. The first panel is mounted on a starter rail. It is not necessary for panel ends to coincide with stud spacing, as the tongue & groove design with shiplap ends provides a self-supporting finished joint. This reduces waste and labor cost, providing fast and easy installation. 1. Install Aluminum Trim (Inside & Outside corners, window, door trim, etc. ) 2. Vapor Retarder NOTE: Windows and doors should be installed according to the manufacturer s recommendations and good building practices to prevent water intrusion between the rough opening and the window or door unit. Details may vary with climate and manufacturer s design. Werzalit of America, Inc. does not provide flashings, drip caps or other material for this purpose. 3. Mount Starter Rail SR-4 4. Install tongue and groove cladding with stainless steel square drive screws or power driven stainless steel ring shank nails (available from Werzalit of America, Inc.) SEQUENTIAL ORDER OF INSTALLATION

Typical Vertical Installation Pictured below is a typical Werzalit Vertical installation shown with Heritage Cladding. The first panel is mounted on an aluminum starter rail. For proper installations of Werzalit panels, wood or aluminum corner posts are required. Work from right to left. Note: Where vertical butt joints are involved, install vertical siding from right to left. At Starter Rail SR-3 remove butt joint finger and apply touch up before mounting to wall at SR-3. NOTE: Windows and doors should be installed according to the manufacturer s recommendations and good building practices to prevent water intrusion between the rough opening and the window or door unit. Details may vary with climate and manufacturer s design. Werzalit of America, Inc. does not provide flashings, drip caps or other material for this purpose. SEQUENTIAL ORDER OF INSTALLATION 8

Typical Installation Over Masonry When applying Werzalit cladding over masonry, a pressure-treated wood substructure is recommended. After vapor barrier has been installed over masonry, attach pressure-treated firring 16 or 24 on center, as shown, with approved masonry anchors. Werzalit cladding can then be installed to firring with #7 X 1 stainless steel screws. 9

Pre-finished Werzalit Trim Boards create a lasting impression! Moisture, changing temperatures, UV light and insects attack exterior trim and cut short its useful life. Werzalit trim boards however, are another story. New technology has created a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) material that won t swell, rot, split, delaminate, cup or craze under harsh conditions. Yet it s as workable as wood. You can nail, glue, drill, route and cut Werzalit Trim Boards using the same tools you would use with wood. Werzalit Trim Boards match woods ability to adapt to varying needs, but when it comes to durability, there s no comparison. Because of Werzalit Trim Boards outstanding lasting power, they are the right choice for these and other applications: * Fascia * Rake, Corner and Frieze Boards * Decorative trim and columns * Flat panels * Fluted and flat casings * Fencing * Custom millwork * Sheet rock * Moldings * Gingerbread * Soffits Werzalit Trim Boards don t require an expensive investment in new tools or fasteners; you can work these products like real wood. NAILED SAWN DRILLED ROUTED GLUED Werzalit Trim Boards will not be affected by moisture and suffer the damage moisture causes. Werzalit Trim Boards are also impervious to salt and insects. Werzalit Trim Boards can be installed using nails, screws or construction adhesives to fasten to wood, masonry and other surfaces. Use PVC Cement to adhere the Werzalit Trim Boards to each other. Werzalit Trim Boards will not collapse when you use nails or screws. Werzalit Trim Boards are UV resistant and may be left in their natural white color. If painting is desirable, Werzalit will paint to your selected colors or they can be painted with standard, exterior grade house paint. (Clean all surfaces prior to painting) 17
