2 Reminders GF-TADs launched in May 2004 (see related Agreement); GF-TADs created initially to respond to the FMD crisis (Europe, 2001 = before the global HPAI crisis) GF-TADs is a joint FAO/OIE mechanism, which combines the strengths of both organizations to achieve the prevention and control of animal transboundary diseases (TADs) worldwide, and in particular to address their regional and global dimensions WHO also associated for zoonotic TADs Regional organizations and donors GF-TADs also associated
3 Reminders At regional level GF-TADs operational first at the Regional level, to combat HPAI: - GF-TADs Asia and the Pacific: March 2005, - GF-TADs Americas: April 2005, - GF-TADs Europe: October 2005, - GF-TADs Africa: April 2006, - GF-TADs Middle-East: April 2006; Regional list of priority diseases defined for each region by the regional Steering Committees Operational arms at the regional level = Regional Support Units - Regional Animal Health Centers (Bamako, Gaborone, Nairobi, Tunis, Beirut, Katmandu, and Bangkok) - Regional Networks (epidemiosurveillance, laboratory and socioeconomic)
